The staff denied my online reservation, saying it was for another of their stores, but they gave me a replacement car. The problem was the tree sap or some other sticky stuff on the hood of the car. They tried to wash it off, but no dice. They didn't have any mineral spirits in the mess of a garage. Worse was that the windshield fluid was low, so the dashboard control drove us crazy until we stuck a hose in the reservoir to fill it up. Earth to Corporate: Are you listening?!

I had a confirmed rental (although the confirmation email states in fine print that it's no guarantee of a vehicle being available). I showed up at the location at the confirmed time, only to be "walked" and told there wasn't a truck available and that "someone" in inventory was supposed to have contacted me. I left and made a reservation w/UHaul who actually guarantee to pay you $50 if a confirmed rental isn't fulfilled. To make matters worse, Budget charged me a $75 no-show fee even though they were the no-show. I had to call customer service and after about 5 min was able to get them to process a credit. Their initial response was that I was supposed to cancel my reservation. Go figure.

Before I arrived, Timmy was really friendly and helpful on the phone, and even told me to come in without an appointment on a busy weekend afternoon. This is not a big operation and it seems Timmy does almost all of the work (there was a young helper there), so I appreciated it even more that he was able to accommodate me. Even though he was working on another car at the time I arrived, he took the time to come to the counter and answer a few quick questions for me. The hitch installation was perfect and he even spent a few more minutes with me afterward to clarify a few things I asked about. He threw in a little sarcasm with some of his answers, but that's OK -- I can take it. Oh, and the best part was it took only about 45 minutes. I went for some lunch at a local Westwood restaurant and the hitch was done when I returned. Couldn't have been easier. Cost around $160 total for the hitch installation and trailer wiring. I rented a car through Rent-A-Wreck this past August while visiting Iceland (foreign country…read moreoptions for this company weren't available for review, so I chose a U.S. option). I could tell immediately that the brakes were a bit worn as soon as I got on the road heading out of Reykjavik, but didn't think much of that at the time. Later in the trip, after I'd put on a few hundred miles, I noticed the brakes seemed to take longer to react and that there was a high-pitched noise when I applied pressure to the brake pedal. I took the car into a mechanic's shop in Ólafsfjörður where the an initial diagnosis of worn rotors was given. When the mechanic removed the rear tires, she saw that the two rear rotors were both heavily worn and rusted. The shop didn't have the necessary parts to change out the rotors, so I had to go back from the direction I'd come, to Akureyri, in order to have the rotors changed out. The mechanic's shop stayed open an extra two hours just for this job, at the behest of Rent-A-Wreck. While I appreciate Rent-A-Wreck finding an available mechanic and covering the maintenance, it would have been great to depart from the rental agency in Reykjavik with a more well-maintained vehicle. On top of that, I was forced to pay $1800 for a scratch under the front bumper at the end of the trip, which seemed quite high just for a repair. Guess next time I'll be getting the full insurance package. . . .with a different rental agency.

Every time we've done so the van has been nice and new and clean, the service is always with a smile and a hug (minus the hug), and it's great because they have a good sized lot were we can leave our car during the rental time period. He even took the time to show me the difference between the 2 trucks. Since I lived on a dead end street, it was helpful to know the manuverabiliy of the van between street and driveway. Then the place they had us pick up from didnt have proper instruction on how to retrieve the keys for the truck. After finally speaking with uhaul 3 times we finally got the keys and hour after our initial rental time. The final straw was them charging us for the truck twice with no explanation and when calling they make it incredibly hard to get that money returned. I will never recommend or use uhaul again ever. They lost a customer and anyone in my life who would potentially be a customer.
