Fifth time in a row checking in at Budget in Newark that they did not have my reservation ready in Fastbreak, so now I have to wait behind Fi VB E people because they only have one attendant on staff. Horrible service. read more

I dont even want to give them a star. Ok I will give them a star for actually having cars. The absolute worst experience I had renting a car. My friend came in from California to Jersey via Newark Airport. She rented a car for us to drive to Vermont for the long weekend. First car they gave her didn't start. 2nd car was great but by the morning of our trip departure it had 2 flat tires. That's when the poo really hit fan. Calling roadside service was a painful task. Getting a human being took a century and then the one we got, Avis was her name ( I know ironic),she was the least pleasant or helpful. She told us it would take 2-3 hours to get a tow and told us that if we wanted another car sent to us,we would have to call Budget at the airport. The number she gives us is Roadside assistance again! After 40 minutes of muddling through the automated prompts I finally got a decent person,Sherry. She offered to have a car brought to us in half the time. When we finally got the new car, it had the check engine light on and 34k miles! When we called back to Budget we got hung up on 3 different times to people who promised to call us back if we got "disconnected". So after all this wasted time (from 8.40am-1.30pm) we had to drive to the airport after all. And when we get there we encounter the queen of apathy, Shelia. This manager could care less about our ordeal with their customer service or the crappie cars. Her idea of sympathy was to give us a sour disposition and begrudgingly "almost a day's" discount (not the whole day- oh no!). I am trying to condense the travesty of this situation into an edible amount cuz trust me it was worst then what I have written but I am tired and I think you get the gist. Don't rent from Budget!!!! read more

Really slow. One agent at a counter for eight. People waiting 30-40 minutes to just start the rental check in. There are broken computers from some previous attempt at efficiency. Never again. read more

On Saturday afternoon, the line was at least 30 people. But only 1 person is working on their huge counter. The other one constantly left the counter and play her phone. It's a total joke read more

Stood in line for 90 minutes for a car rental I've already paid for. budget employees taking anywhere from 20-40 minutes with each customer. I've been watching the dollar and thrifty rental car lines moving people at a rapid pace. On top of that 2 employees go on break while the line has people standing from the counter zig zagged through the ropes all the way to the escalator. Finally get the rental and the car wreaks of marijuana. What a shit show read more

Was returning a car here that was picked up in Chicago. Drove right into the return lane and within 5 minutes the car was checked in and a receipt was in my hands. Great hassle free, was totally worried because of all the negative reviews. Couldn't have been easier. read more

Terrible service and company representation. I was quoted 1 price and charged another. Then when I inquired the manager was rude and unhelpful when his representative made a mistake. Avoid if you can. read more

I have rented from Budget for 25 years all over the country. 5 to 10 rentals a year average. Usually they are good. This is one of the counters that never impresses me. I'm Fastbreak and they do not have a board that shows your name and spot number to get your car. You still need to go the counter and after identifying myself and that I am Fastbreak, the person needs to leave for a while to find me a car. Several minutes go by, she returns, gets me my keys and a contract. I go outside and there is no car in that spot. So I have to walk back in and interrupt other customers to tell here there is no car. So then she starts saying she will upgrade me into some giant SUV that I do not want driving around and trying to park in Newark. More wait to get more keys and another car to be found. Upon return, there is usually a person there that receives your car, prints out your receipt and you are done. But on this day there is a person just there to tell you to go inside with your paperwork. There is noting fast about the Fastbreak at this location. read more

If I could rate this a .5 start I would. I picked up a car rental after flying into Newark, NJ from Boston, MA. My flight was delayed so I made sure to ask the representative at the desk if there was any changes to the dropdoff procedure or if it would be an issue that I was dropping off roughly 4 hours behind schedule. He said no, and that all I had to do was leave the keys in the car. I got to the dropoff which was a Budget location with no service desk (from what I could see...it was in Rehoboth Beach, DE). So I did exactly as I was told, left the keys in the car and locked it before I left. All within the same day, I think I had the car for a total about 5 hours. I returned to Boston on Sunday with a friend who drove us back. However, Budget called me on TUESDAY asking if I wanted to extend the use of the car. Clearly, I had not been using it and left it exactly where I was supposed to. However, they are now claiming that they have no proof and have charged me $1750. $1750 for 5 HOURS of a car rental. I will NEVER use Budget again. This could have been easily avoided and yet here I am spending about $1200 more than I expected. read more

I am appalled by my experience with budget. We pre-booked and fully prepaid for a ford focus or similar. We know this size car would be adequate for two people and two large suitcases. When we arrived to collect he car, we were told we had been given a VW Beetle. Apparently that is "similar" to a ford focus. What a joke. We could not fit our luggage in that car, so had to pay to upgrade to a Mazda3, which is basically the same size as a focus. We ended up paying an extra $250 on-top of the prepaid amount, for miscellaneous fees and for the upgrade. None of those fees were explained at the time of booking. I will never use budget again. For the money, use Alamo - much better customer service and the same price (when you include the additional charges budget slug on you). Appalled. read more

For over 8 years I have traveled for work. I'm generally a very brand loyal customer. I decided to try a different rental car company this past week. The attractive rental rates were too good to pass up. I was in a bit of a rush while picking up my rental and declined the normal insurance upgrade and the LDW "loss damage waiver" was never discussed. Next, I made the crucial error of not fully reading my renal contract. I WAS CHARGED 28.99 PER DAT EXTRA FOR LDW. This item was never discussed. BUDGET rental did a great job pulling a fast one on a frequent traveler in a rush. And if it was an honest mistake, they are not owning up to it. read more

Took forever to get the car, paid gas charge ahead, but returned on full. They did not refund me and when I called they asked for the gas charge receipt. Holy crap....when you're traveling the number of receipts you keep is crazy, but tossed that one. Despite having a receipt with no extra charge when returning the vehicle, that was not good enough. The car had an ezpass which I did not ask for. It was dark and late, so I didn't see it behind the mirror. Another charge on my card after the fact. Slimy place to rent a car. I will never rent from budget at Newark again. read more

the car itself was the only good experience. I declined insurance or thought I did but it still showed up on my bill. When I got to my location I noticed the charges and called to see what to do. for 30 min I wouldn't get a hold of anyone so I contacted corporate. they told me I had to go back to the original rental location which was 1 hour away. For me that wasn't possible. The rep told me he was documenting all this in my file so they could take care of it when I returned the car. I called the actual location for another 30 min and still no one answered. Upon returning the lady at the counter was of no help bc she said I accepted the term and I pressed accept. I reexplained the situation and told her that there was notes on file about this whole situation. she informed me that there weren't any and nothing I could do at this point costing me an extra $50 that I originally asked to decline! not helpful at all and not willing to correct mistakes. I fly each month to jersey you lost a customer for sure and it's not worth the lower rental price in the end. read more

Misleading information or no information given by counter people. The cars come with the EZ pass which I believed would take care of the tolls Instead a week or two later I received a charge for the tolls. The charge even exceeded the amount of the tolls I would have paid. They do not go over this and as a result I find this misleading and fraudulent. Also, it was during the Thanksgiving holidays and they knew how many reservations they had, but only had two people assigned to take care of a very long line. This company does not care about you, they are only concerned with there bottom line. The next time I rent a car Budget will be at the bottom of my list. read more

If I could use zero stars I would! We waited in line for over 1.5hours, with 8-10 parties in front of us. The employees are slow and visibly lazy, with one even stopping to get a snack from he vending machine with more than 20 people behind us. There system is antiquated with the rep needing to walking to the lot to get the plate of each car. Needless to say we nearly missed the event we came for! I will never use this location again! read more

DON'T RENT from here! If I could give 0 stars I would. I hate giving negative reviews but after speaking with the customer service representative I feel I must. There were two representatives with lines out the door. It took us over an HOUR and a HALF to get our car. This was after a 6 hour flight and with two kids in tow. When I asked about whether this was a fluke (the lines), the rep told me it's always like this, has been especially bad in the previous few weeks and that corporate Budget doesn't really care if people wait. The corporate lack of care equally matched his lack of care. Why give our money to a company and people who don't care?!?! read more

I rented a car with Budget this past weekend and I have to share my experience. I got the quote for the rental car through priceline and I was very excited because the rate was very cheap. That should have been a red flag but I am very naive when it comes to renting cars. Any who, I rented the car from Newark Airport because I wanted a late pickup and a late drop off time. I arrived there close to midnight on the 6th and witnessed two employees socializing. When they were done with their conversation they decided to assist the line. The agent that checked me in started quoting me insurance prices when I asked if I can use my own insurance she told me "that's your prerogative". I was taken back I mean really taken back. She didn't tell me much else about the car nor did she tell me about the fact mileage was not unlimited. Moving along, she gives me my paperwork and points me to the car, a ford flex. When I got to the car there was a cart seat and trash in the third row. When I told the rep about this, his response was "are you sure you have the right car". I was taken back by this. After reviewing my paperwork he realized I can read and I had the right car. He tells me he would return and drives off with the car. He returns with the 3rd row cleaned up. So fast forward to Sunday, the day of my return. I get a receipt showing an additional $117, the mileage she forgot to tell me about. So I go to the counter, livid. I had had enough. There is a man sitting down helping one customer. He is chewing the heck out of some gum I mean so hard he made me want a piece. So I wait finally, Darlene comes out and I share my experience with her. She was very nice, but I was watching the other agents one is still smacking on gum and another is at the desk on her cell phone holding a conversation while assisting a guest. She places the cell phone inside her shirt and I watching in amazement. None of these people see anything wrong with their actions. I think the experience was disgraceful. If you need video footage I'll be glad to post it as well read more

Sadly you might want to spend the extra money. Saturday afternoon rental and the line is out the door. There is only one person at the desk whereas the other places like dollar have three. Understaffed what a bummer read more

Be careful double check your reservation with the rental agreement. Some agent there is sneaky and tries to take advantage. By travel agency mistake, I had 2 reservations with my name. The girl at the desk did not ask me and of course gave me a daily rate which doubled the weekly rate in total. Back from the trip I had to call customer service to adjust the rate. How hard is to be honest to your customers? Your trick is not going to succeed in the end. What a waste of time. read more

I don't know if this review will matter, since this Budget is located at the airport, they won't ever lack in customers, hence this shitty treatment of their customers. But I just wanted to warn you guys, plan your trip in advance, ask all questions when you rent your car. Because if you will need to reach them for whatever reason, you won't be able to at all, they don't pick up! Like at all! We needed to extend our rental for one day. Couldn't reach them. We called the main 1-800 #, they told us to extend we have to reach the local office. We kept trying and trying for HOURS! No one did pick up. I even tried calling the airport's customer service, they couldn't reach them either. This is just unacceptable for any business! We ended up needing to change our plans and return the car earlier, in order not to risk acquiring fees. When I asked at their front office why no one picked up the phone, I just got a bullshit excuse and shrugged shoulders with a careless bored face from some middle eastern chick. The whole point of renting a car is so that you can enjoy your vacation! When you're changing plans of car rental and how long you can have a car, your vacation can get ruined, all because you as a company didn't do your job! read more
