One lady had a large cardboard box of food she carried out the door. No one offered to stop them. I would not deny any person food when hungry. But, I noticed the woman working hard to keep up filling the food and cleaning the breakfast area. Otherwise, a terrific place to stay and enjoy breakfast.

Came here with my friend and her mother for a single night stay as part of a friend's wedding. I was surprised to see a Holiday Inn in this area since it isn't particularly populated, though I certainly appreciated it being here! The rooms are clean and well-appointed, and any amenity you might need is either already in the room or available at the front counter. I somehow managed to forget to bring an iPhone charger (arguably the most important thing you should bring on any trip) so I went up front to see if they had one on offer and, sure enough, they offered me one right away. I half-expected them to ask for my driver's license or at least room number before entrusting it to me, though they were super casual about it : "It's fine, you can bring it back whenever you're done with it!" Wow, that's a breath of fresh air! The complimentary breakfast here was very nice and had a variety of warm options (not just cold cereal or basic oatmeal like many hotels try to pass off as a meal), and I dutifully returned the charger to the front desk prior to departure, with them accepting it back as casually as they had issued it. Maybe that's more about the nature of people who live around here, though I appreciated it just the same! While I didn't use the pool on this occasion, it did look very appealing, as did the landscaping around the hotel. I was very pleased with my short visit here and would gladly do it again if offered the chance! Ok, so let me tell you about the room. Girl, the room had the most perfect bed I have ever slept on. If I could have figured out a way to smuggle this bed out I would have. I'm kinda like the Goldilocks of hotel beds and this one was just right. So right in fact that when I went to lay down for just 5 min before unpacking my gear it sucked me in and I slept for 2 hours ! That never happens! The tv was actually larger than my 50 inch at home and had great channels. This one hotel has messed up my entire theory of hotel cable. Maybe it's an anomaly, but in all the years I have been traveling for my career the equation has been the better the hotel is the shittier the cable. Well thanks for proving me wrong this time, Hampton Inn! The room itself was excellent. They gave me a handicap accessible room on the first floor and it was the first room when one walks in- as all handicapped rooms should be. Why most hotels put them so far down the hallways I'll never know. This one did it right. Getting a late checkout wasn't an issue, either. In fact they offered it to me. Instead of offering to help move to different flagged hotels 1/2 mile away I wasn't aware of, Chip said the only rooms avail were at some nasty roach motel 2 doors away that I wouldn't stay in without an armed guard. Just when I thought Chip only treated me like a moron, upon loading car to leave, another gentleman stormed out extremely upset. He said GM Chip just treated him like a fool and refused to book the 15 rm block for a later date even though front desk showed rooms available. He said after clerk confirmed availability and he was going to pay deposit, Chip came around the ofc corner and told her not to book the rooms for his non-profit group because they may not be available. This guy was fuming. I can see why. Chip's style and demeanor are unacceptable. This hotel may be financially successful, but I assure you it isn't due to his people skills.

I had no problem previous with the toilet. Housekeeping took it apart. I went to the front desk and ask the manager what was happening. He immediately went to my room and put on a new handle. Ever since he put the new handle on, the toilet runs continuously. This evening I returned to my room to discover the toilet won't flush. Manager not on property. Kid on front desk says he cannot call a plumber unless the manager tells him to. He also cannot move me to another room because the hotel is sold out. I stay 70+ nites a year in IHG properties and another 25 a year in Marriott properties. This is the first time I have been faced with a situation like this - a non working toilet and a refusal to remedy the situation. Avoid this place at all cost.

I tried to talk to the gentleman at the front desk and he proceeded to tell me that by signing up through the app that they can charge my card whenever they want. Needless to say, He was not helpful at all. This was before I even arrived to the hotel. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager was busy and I said I would be there in 20 minutes. The manager was supposed to talk with me and conveniently he left 10 minutes before I got there. It took me over five days to get my money back. I even complained to the Corporate Hilton, which also was 0% help. They promised that I would receive a call and they would do something to help make this better. Here we are almost a month later and nothing has been done. Also, While standing in line, I heard from two other customers that they had charged their debit card more than once as well. I have tried to get in touch with management to resolve this issue however no one wants to return my call. I stay at a lot of these business class hotels around the country so based on the rate and…read moreaccommodations here I will compare it to the Hyatt Place and Marriott Courtyard. I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting an old friend who is a native and long term-resident of Urbana. In sum, staying here is better than a Comfort Inn, Motel 6, or Quality Inn, but not as nice as a Hyatt Place or Marriott Courtyard but they are charging the same rate: 1. It was fine for 2 nights--I really would not want to stay here much longer and if I return to Urbana would look for another place to stay unless their rates were significantly reduced. . 2. Upon check-in and during the stay my interaction with staff was fine--they were not overly welcoming when I arrived, but not super-friendly either. 3. Overall, the room was pretty clean, but I did find one errant hair in the shower and the the shower curtains had a little bit of dark at the bottom edges? A little dirty? 3a. The room was set up for efficiency which I liked a lot. 4. The main problem in the room was the shower operations--during three showers--one of them at 2 am when presumably few are using the hotel water, it was impossible to get the shower temperature to stay on my setting--it kept on going to hot or cold and required constant adjustment during the shower. 5. Most of the towels were good quality, but a few I had to set aside because of too much wear. They graciously gave me extra towels at the desk and I liked that. 5a. They do not make up or clean your room until the 3rd night unless you ask and I did not need it on this stay. 6. I did like that they had shower soap bars as I cannot properly clean with the liquid. 6a. The toilet seat is the very thin plastic type that when you lean a bit to one side snaps off the bowl edge like you are going to fall off if you know what I mean? You have to maintain your balance on the seat to prevent that from happening. 7. The King mattress was comfortable enough for a couple or nights, but not one I would sleep on full time at home. Same with the pillows--fine for 2 nights. 8. I am used to a heavier down comforter, and theirs was a bit thin for me, but fine for 2 nights. 9. The place seemed safe, in a safe area of town--definitely get out and see the downtown Urbana--they have some good restaurants and antique stores--great to walk around and meet the locals like I did. 10. The real fall-down at this hotel at this price range is the free breakfast--it's awful--it's the 2nd worst I have seen at a free breakfast hotel in 20 years. Plan on going into town for your breakfast--there are some good places. At this price point--this breakfast should have been much much better and comprehensive. In sum, no one is going to have a bad stay at this hotel, but no one is going to have a great stay at this hotel. It's mid-range, mediocre due to all the things I listed above. It's a $100 a night hotel in 2024 prices, charging much more than that like it's a Hyatt or Marriott, so it's over-valued--especially with such a poor breakfast. Sorry that I could not file a better a report because I liked Urbana a lot.
