WOW! Where do I start We waited about an hour after our flight at Budget - they require only one person in line and the rest have to sit outside in the heat. So, our small kids are sweating and restless for an hour after being trapped on a plane for 5. But wait! It gets better (or worser) We make it all the way to Budget's lot, locate the car - GREAT! Exactly the car we had booked. But wait! Why is someone in my car? And trying to back up and drive it away??? So we're outside the car looking confused. The people inside the car are mortified. We both realize we were assigned the same car. Well, since they were already in said car with all their luggage packed into it, we were brought to an alternate vehicle, a significantly older car. On the plus side, the AC was the highlight of the vehicle and it didn't break for the amount of driving we did. read more

Great experience with Oli at the front desk. We arrived a few minutes before they officially opened but she was willing to get us started. We had pre-booked and were slated for a mini SUV but they ended up having minivans so shew was able to hook us up there! Six adults were 2 at 6ft tall would have been a struggle in the mini SUV. With the minivan, we were able to rent our surfboards from somewhere cheaper than the beach. I noticed a previous comment about them not being open.....Be aware they do have somewhat limited hours. BUT they are within walking distance from the Sheraton Maui. Would recommend. read more

They worked with us, gave us a red Mustang Convertible when we initially booked a sedan (sweet upgrade!) and allowed us to extend the car 2 extra days when we realized we weren't done exploring the island yet. No complaints at all. Ladies at the front desk were super nice. read more

We made a reservation for KIA Soul. When we arrived, there were no KIA Souls on the lot. We agreed to a Chevy Bolt, an electric car instead only because the person at the desk said there were charging stations at our resort. We later found out that there aren't any charging stations where we were staying and finding places to charge isn't easy on Maui. The front tires were low so we returned to the rental desk and asked if we can use their air compressor, which is free to car rental folks. While we were there, I mentioned the absence of charging stations at Honua Kai. The desk lady was the greatest! She offered us a new Chevy Bolt, with air in the tires and fully charged, as a trade. No extra charges or hidden fees. She also noted in their computer that we didn't need to return the car with a full charge. What wonderful service! We had a problem with a low tire and needed a replacement vehicle. Although they have a budget sign they act as an independent operator. They will not help you if you do not rent from this location. They were also very rude at the counter and cut you off when you are speaking. This is a franchise and if you are not local they have zero compassion. read more

First of all, many of the current reviews for this Budget Car Rental are written for the wrong location! Yelpers please be aware that this is NOT the Kahului Airport (OGG) location. It's a very small satellite location on the west side of the island in Ka'anapali (just north of Lahaina town). Its a shame that there are so many angry 1-star reviews here that are written for the wrong business! I booked a car through Passport Corporate for 2 days which gave me a better deal than Costco Travel and all other deals I researched online. Pick up was seamless, car was prepaid, and although the Nissan Versa we got had several dents and scratches (what rental car doesn't?), it worked just fine for the short time we had it. The 2 employees working in the late afternoon of Friday 11/9/18 were very friendly (sorry I didn't get their names), and when we dropped the car back off on Sunday, they offered us a shuttle ride back to our hotel in Ka'anapali. Napua drove us back and she was incredibly friendly as well! All in all a great experience and would rent from them again! read more

At least the representative was polite. The kiosk/agreement area was severely understaffed for the amount of reservations. We were in line for :42 minutes. When we did get our vehicle, the rep walked us out then advised that the vehicle would be about :45 minutes before it was ready. He did offer free gas refill for the inconvenience. The vehicle wasn't ready for over an hour. This altered our travel plans and cause missed reservations elsewhere. There were dozens of angry customers. After 2 hours having been told that we would need to get back in line, my husband just went in and when the agent that helped him the first time was open he jumped in and was told that opps they had already rented that car so after 3+ hours we finally got a car. In all fairness I ripped Budget at another location on Maui. So I must praise this location. I received a car from the airport after an extreme wait and the car reeked of marijuana. On day two I mentioned something to my hotel and they suggested I call and switch it with the local budget. I had never done that before even though I travel hundreds of thousands of miles each year for work. So I called. Holy cow what a difference. Fast and courteous are not compliment enough for the experience. Wonderful and wish I could have just taxied from airport and rented here. The car replacement is immaculate with just over 1000 miles. Budget is exactly what it is budget and nothing better than that. I have rented from them in the past and today I am done with them. Always 50+ people in line in an overcrowded room with no air conditioning. At least that many people waiting outside for their car and they always make you wait another 20 minutes just to get your car after checkout. If you don't upgrade or take the additional insurance or gas the staff treats you like you are a second class citizen. You would think with technology today they would be staffed based on rental reservations and have the cars ready to go. After traveling all day the last thing you want to do is wait another hour and a half for your car. Never ever again. Worst rental car service. 17 terminals, but only 3 attendants? 1hr to get to counter, then 30min to get your car brought out. The same people attending vehicle pick-ups are attending vehicle drop-offs which slows down the line even more. When I got my car you could tell it had been barely dropped off and simply hosed down. The car was just drenched. All the windows were wet, dirty, and greasy and made it difficult to see while driving. Had to stop at gas station to properly clean and dry them with squeegee so that I could drive safely. I have used other car services in Maui and have had no issues at all, fast service with clean cars. Went with Budget for this trip as it was about $40 cheaper than the others. Next time I'd rather pay more and know I will get 5-star service. 1.5 stars out of 500 reviews on Yelp, I should of looked then up before booking. I have learned my lesson. Budget doesn't seem to care about such bad reviews as they have done nothing to improve their quality of service. Just replies to negative posts giving their apologies for poor service. read more

Sure wish I could check zero stars.!! Emphasis on "Bait and switch". Prepaid a suburban for 7 member family over a year ago.. started out walked in at 1:40 PM. Finally got to counter 3:00 pm.. just absolutely trying to keep my head up for slow service. Then the man mentioned sorry we just don't have any SUV available..I have a minivan that will work. There is NO way you can load 7 people and 7 large suitcases (tried it last year when they scammed us for $2000 for swap to SUV, they knew we were in a pickle). So they then gave us 2 vehicles. Minivan and crappy small Mazda something. I also demanded these to be replaced with what I ordered. Robert said he will call me with a plan to bring SUV and swap out with both cars. Well been a few days and "crickets".. I actually feel sorry for the people working there. I personally would be a raging alcoholic if I had to B.S. and screw people on a daily.. not a good way to run business... BUDGET UPPER MANAGEMENT . Avoid budget at every chance you can! Arriving in Maui we were very excited to smell the clean air and start to relax. My wife and I usually split the duties upon arrival - I go get the pre booked rental car and she waits for the luggage. We have been to Maui a few times ( we are really lucky) and have this process pretty down. In fact, we usually meet outside of the baggage area within a half hour at the most of each other. Saves time for the many fun things to do here This is where it all goes for a sh**. I arrived at the budget area at the airport to get the shuttle to the budget rental car office. This is about a five minute shuttle. I hind sight I should have walked. The line was down the side of the building. We waited at least 15 minutes before someone at budget noticed and ordered extra shuttles to pick us all up. I waited there for at least 30 minutes. Finally the shuttle came and took me to the office. AWESOME - a lineup that went right to the entrance door. Another 30-45 minutes waiting here. Then I get told my convertible was too basic for me and I was offered a Camaro at 79 dollars more PER DAY. I like convertibles. I said that's brutal and too expensive. Then he said He would cut it in half for me. I said yes because my wife said she was tired of mustangs. ( :-) ). The guy even said he would valet the car "because he liked me" So I left the office and went to the area where the car was to be "ready". I arrived at another lineup. ANOTHER 30 MINUTES. Everyone here was bitching about the worst service they have ever had at a rental place. Needless to say I did not see any aloha spirit waiting for the valet cars. Finally I seen it. The orange Camaro convertible I had been waiting for. I was excited because I wanted my wife to love it. It was absolutely filthy. Windows were literally covered in a film of merk. I don't know any other way to describe it. The inside was really dirty too. I didn't complain. I took the keys and picked up my wife and another couple we met on the plane and went to Lahaina. I wanted to make sure to leave a positive feedback right away. I flew in yesterday to OGG and was planning to stay for 15 days and only needed a rental car for a few days. The OGG staff was wonderful from the older gentleman directing the line outside and to the gentlemen Mike who took care of my reservation. Something came up and I had to change my plans on my stay here and decided to keep the car longer than the few days. Thanks to Mike in letting me know I can always check with the Budget in Kahana where I staying close to if I needed to extend or make changes. Sure enough I went today and was helped by a lady and I wish I got her name (It was around 11am) and she took care of me within minutes and made my stressful situation all better. Mid March 2018 (not too many tourists around this time) Great location- right by some of the resorts and JHM (the small airport). They do offer shuttles to and from JHM. The establishment was kind of unorganized- the guy that was helping us kept giving us different prices (I got a total of 5 different prices.) He was so confused. I learned that the same cars are a lot cheaper by the OGG airport. When we got the car, still dripping from the carwash, there was garbage on the floor from the previous renters and the trunk smelled awful. read more

Rented a convertible Mustang yesterday near the airport, what a hunk of junk. Sounded like the front wheel was going to fall off, dents and dings all over it and major air leaks between the windows and convertible top. Then i called the Lahina office to exchange for a different car. Both my wife a I got the run around by Rylie, told us it would cost us $150 extra to return it to the office near the airport. Budget Rent a Car Maui, you're a hot mess. Most rental companies are striving to make it easy peasy, attempting to make it a hassle-less experience. You Budget, on the hand, want your customers walking away with a sense of utter disgust and a feeling like we've received a sucker punch to the kidney. Granted, I may have landed when the cows came home. Airlines from all over practically touching down all at once. But still, no excuses. We landed on a Wednesday this past November 2015. Our group landed together at Kahului Maui (OGG) Airport and we're the only fools that went with Budget while all the smart folks scattered to the other premium rental car shuttles. We get off the shuttle and are immediately greeted with a lovely snake line. It's a snail pace, not to mention warm/humid inside. Yeah, it's Maui but don't be cheap on that A/C. You easily have nearly 100 bodies inside a sweltering box, yet you don't seem to give a flying f*ck. On the far left, you have the pre-paid VIP customers. The general line is so bad, you've hired a drill sergeant to bark at us. "You only need the main driver in line. The other people in your party, step aside and take all the bags with you. Kids, pets, grandparents, lovers, all to the side please with your personal belongings." This wasn't going to be fun and it wasn't. I kid you not, I waited over an hour in this tedious line. I finally get to the front. I come to learn that I could've gotten into the "VIP" line because I did all my bookings and pre-paying online which I imagine most of us do. Of course, my name wasn't on the board so I wasn't allowed to get into that line. At this point, I'm just trying to get my car and go. Note, I knew this was going to be an ugly situation because when we pulled up in the shuttle, the vehicle return line was just as long as the snake line inside the office. There were more cars coming in rather than cars getting pumped out. The guy I dealt with kept trying to up sale me on a special they were having for Mustangs or Jeep off roads. I ordered a compact car, I didn't specify sports or luxury. Stop trying to sell me and just give me my beater please. We finally get through those ropes then get into the insurance portion. The guy rambles on about all the different coverages they offer. $99/day for a fully blow your mind protection scheme yadee, yadee, yadee. I tell the guy, I have full coverage with my personal insurance not to mention that the credit card I'm using for this transaction also provides some sort of coverage. I know this is a business and businesses must do what they have to do to make extra profit, but this guy would not budge. Yeah, he was that guy. I got a truckload of people behind me, staring at us, and this guy isn't even trying to bang us out. Instead, he's trying to up his sales and probably get his ugly mug on the employee of the month wall. Again, I refuse. He then turns to scare tactics. Let me quote, "Okay sir, if you choose not to use any of our insurance options, then its total up to you. However, let me explain that if you get into any accidents with our vehicle and it has to sit in the shop, we can charge you daily for everyday that it sits in the shop. Also, it takes a long time for replacement parts to get shipped to the island, so sometimes cars end up there for a month." No lies, these were his exact words. After spending another 20 minutes or so with the counter guy, I'm finally free from this sad sadistic act and head out to fetch my car. Remember when I told you about the lineup of returning cars? Well, it took another 45 minutes for my POS Buick Verano to come out of the back. Just looking at everyone else's face in the vicinity, I knew they were sharing my same pain. The total time it took me from the minute I got off the shuttle to me finally driving out of the lot was give or take a little bit over two hours. UNBELIEVABLE. It goes to show you how the managers and the genius powers to be of this shitty establishment care about customer satisfaction. They only seem to care about making that fat cheddar. Just imagine the training they give their employees. Prime example, the douche counter guy I received. I apologize to the minimal amount of decent people who work at this place but your coworkers are making a great name for this company. This place is truly a joke. Heed my advice, take your business to Enterprise, Avis, National, Alamo, etc. Budget Rent a Car does not deserve our hard earned vacay cash. I rather pay more for a place that knows how to properly run their business and treat their customers with some respect. And if you think, I'm venting just to hate. On this very same trip, I rented a car from Enterprise on Kona and Alamo in Honolulu. Both experiences, I was in and out in 15-20 minutes top. read more

So I arrived at the airport and had a car I had booked in advance. After receiving the car I had noticed it was dirty. The rear view mirrors were barley visible because it had so much dirt on it. You would think they give it a car wash before renting it out again. The window would roll down but not roll up. I don't understand why they want to scam and make money off cars they are not in very good condition. I spend about 300$+ to rent this car and they can't even give it a car wash? Or inform me that a window would not roll up . I will return it vacuumed and washed. Wish I had revived it that nice. Secondly, I needed an extra car so I had asked for a small car but they told me it was unavailable or they they were out of it. So I left. With a group of 7 I knew we needed 2 cars so I went online and tried to reserve one. I reserved the car they told me they were out of , and "unavailable" and got it for a cheaper price online. AND I got it within 10 minutes after reserving it. I don't understand why they couldn't go on their computer and figure that out. When I went to get the car I saw 5 all in a row. After they told me it was unavailable... when I parked to put luggage in it I was told I was in the shuttle space so I moved out of the way of the shuttle space that was marked on the road. But I was again was approached, and very rude to move the car. No please thank you, no aloha. Just rudely said you need to move the car . 0/10 do not recommend. If your reading this get your company together. We (customers) travel and come from all around the world. We didn't want crap., update my car had a dead battery twice ! Waiting hours for jumper cables from the roadside assistance. Ridiculous should go out of buisness. read more

COCKROACHES!!!! Live ones all over the car. I didn't see them initially in the daytime but at night when I took my family out, I saw about a dozen. Disgusting. I called the same office to exchange but they didn't have any cars. I called the main customer service, they wouldn't do anything about it. They said I need to take it to another Budget location which was two hours roundtrip for me (wasting my vacation). They told me to try to call roadside assistance. Roadside finally agreed to send another car after I pressured them about the health hazards of roaches all over my two young kids. That's the only reason I gave two stars rather than one. This really put a damper on our vacation, having to call multiple places was unacceptable. read more
