ASHLEY is da bomb! I had to reject a car I rented from KIMOS (it looked like it came from the wrecking yard & had the Check Engine light on--spent some of my valuable time diagnosing it at the auto parts store) so I showed up here without notice. Not only was she sympathetic to my experience but she found a car & gave me it at a major discount! She was professional, competent, and the essence of the Aloha Spirit. I will never rent from anyone else. Local is da Best!

IMHO Generally, we book our rental cars from Costco Travel. This year my husband did research on local Maui car rental companies to see if they had better deals. Indeed, they did! Five stars for rental price ($400 less than Costco)! Aloha Rent a Car, here we come!!! After landing and grabbing our luggage, we called Aloha. They told us exactly where to wait and 15 minutes later, Mapu showed up in the big shuttle van. Maybe 5 minutes later we arrived at Aloha Rental. Misty arranged a 2015 Nissan Sentra. The car was clean with a few minor scratches. (I loved that Aloha Rent a Car is located just a few blocks from my favorite lunch place and gallery gift shop!) Two days into our vacation, just as we were heading out for the day, the tire pressure gauge indicator warning came on. We called Misty and told her we were on our way to Kahului. Car exchange was easy. All in all, renting with Aloha was a positive experience. Their staff is very nice and friendly, and accommodating. We will definitely rent from them again in the future!

Would totally recommend. After searching high and low to rent a car, we finally found Aloha Rent A Car (at a very affordable price and decent car choice). The shop was located outside of the airport, with convenient shuttle service. If you arrive or depart after the business hours, there is an extra $20 charge. I arrived after 5pm, and called them when I landed. The driver was there about 20 minutes later. Since the location was already closed, my car was already parked at the entrance. The staff quickly checked me in and went over the service agreement. Everything was really quick. Now on to the car, I knew I rented a pretty old model, but it was somewhat safe to say at the very least. The next day, the tire pressure indicator came on. It was impossible to find a gas station on the island with working air pumps -_-. I was a bit nervous, as I was trying to make the trip to Hana. I made it to Hana, and luckily there was ONE gas station with working air pumps. However, the indicator was still on. I guess with old cars, there's always going to be something wrong. Despite this hiccup, I would still recommend.

Terrible customer service! Not sure if he is the owner, Kali needs to know how to treat his customers. Cars are not in good condition.

Ask the Community - Aloha Rent A Car

Where do we drop our car off at the Maui airport if we leave at 8:40 in the morning and need to be at the airport by 6:40 am? The shuttle says it only runs at 8 am.

drop off at the public parking at airport , there is a $20.00 fee for that

Hi, do you guys still (as of 2021) offer a courtesy shuttle to and from OGG airport? Thanks.

yes we do have a running shuttle to and from OGG

What is your debit card policy?

you would have to carry full coverage insurance to use a debit card

Do you offer a courtesy shuttle to and from the Kahului Airport to your facility?

We have a courtesy shuttle to and from the Kahului (OGG) Airport. We are approximately a mile and half away.

Aloha Makoa, Thanks…read moreonce again for renting a car to me. We had a wonderful time in Maui--in no small mesure because of your Honda Civic sedan, which took us to lots of places economically and reliably. Next time we come back to Maui, we will definitely rent a car from Makoa again. Warm regards, Carolyn Riding

Use Makoa if you want a cheaper car rental (450 dollars a week), want to fit in with the locals,…read moredon't care about what the car looks like, and appreciate a stream lined process for pick up and drop off. I guess my expectations for this experience were a little high. We rented an older SUV for the week to explore the island. I guess you could call it an SUV although it barely fit 4 people's luggage, some had to go in the backseat between the passengers. When we arrived to OGG, the instructions led us to where our car was parked. I looked in the general area for the car, matched the pictures and actually started busting out laughing when I saw the condition of the car- peeling clear coat, scratches, dings, a bumper part screwed in with a screw? But it was cheap right? I won't be outted as a tourist? As soon as I turned on the car a required maintainence notification came up on the dash and stayed on every time I started the car. I just thought, maybe it just needs an oil change. We drove it anyway, but alignment was off and battery didn't sound too good when turned over. Glad we made it to all our destinations, and our trip was awesome, but I don't think I would rent from them again, especially reserving an older car. Required upkeep is lacking. I like to support local businesses and they were highly recommended on Reddit and Yelp, so I guess you get what you pay for. Lesson learned.

We arrived at Budget after a long flight. A woman was at the door yelling at people not to bring in…read moreany luggage and only one person per party can go inside. The line was very long, and finally they added more staff. It was finally my turn, and the girl tried to sell me a jeep for an extra $20/day, which I politely declined. She then sighed, her attitude seemed to change, and said something along the lines of "let me figure out which car I can get you" (was supposed to be Toyota Corolla or similar - prepaid via Costco package). Her tone felt like maybe no cars were left. After a few minutes, she handed me the Budget packet with car license # and type of vehicle on the booklet, informed me of the location where to find the car, and sent me on my way. We started driving out of the Budget garage, but the QR code wasn't working to open the gate. This man (who did not smile ever and literally hated his life - it was obvious) was extremely rude when I told him our QR code is having issues. He then goes "you're in the wrong car" to which I said, the girl told me to get this exact car from the location we found it. He took ~20min (felt like an eternity and stressful when everyone pulls up behind us and realizes we're stuck) looking into why it wasn't working. Either the girl wrote down the wrong license, or a Budget member put the wrong car in the spot. She wrote license YAR333 Nissan Altima but we had YAR332 Nissan Altima. The man kept blaming us and did not take any accountability. ZERO customer service. Even when the gate finally went up, he said absolutely nothing to us. We had to say, ok sooo we're good to go? Super curt response. Miserable man. Doesn't deserve the job. If the Budget girl wrote the correct license plate, or if the Budget person who parked the car in the spot chose the correct car, we would've saved almost 45min of agony and frustration on our first wedding anniversary trip. However, dropping the car off was a great experience and smooth sailing. If not for that, would give one star.

I booked a "Staff Selection" rental for the week, thinking I'd get whatever car they had available…read more Instead, we were handed a Tesla Model 3. Normally that might sound great, but we had never driven a Tesla before and nobody at Budget bothered to explain anything. I have Fastbreak, so basically they just told us to go find the car. Our receipt was sitting on a board and that was pretty much the entire interaction. No explanation of how the car worked, how to charge it, or anything else. We ended up having to Google things constantly just to figure out how to operate the car. I eventually found a Budget employee and asked about charging. He asked where we were staying, and when I told him the Hilton, he said, "Oh yeah, they have chargers." Great! Except when we got to the other side of the island, we discovered there was no charging adapter in the car, so we couldn't use the chargers at our Hilton property. Because charging elsewhere takes forever, we ended up having to use Tesla Superchargers four different times just to make sure we had enough charge for the road trips we had planned. That added a lot of unnecessary hassle to our vacation. If I had known beforehand that I was going to be given a Tesla with no adapter and absolutely no instruction on how to use it, I would never have rented this car. And the car itself wasn't exactly impressive. It was extremely dirty, had huge gaps between some of the body panels, and the seats were incredibly uncomfortable. My back hurt pretty much the entire time we had it. The biggest problem, though, was the lack of help from Budget. Every time we tried to get assistance, it felt like we were being brushed off. I don't blame the Tesla itself for everything--I blame Budget for handing us a car we had never driven before without explaining anything, providing no charging adapter, and then essentially leaving us to figure it all out ourselves. For a week-long vacation rental, this was way more hassle than it was worth. If you're booking a Staff Selection car at OGG, be prepared for the possibility of getting a Tesla and being completely on your own.

However, due to my experience on the…read moremainland with Enterprise (via my dealership service advisor), I decided to break from the usual. New pro tip, rent your car via Costco Travel. You get your pick of companies (Enterprise!) and vast auto selection that were quite reasonable. I nervously booked two weeks prior to leaving for Maui (OGG Kahului). But it turned out to be easy peasy once I landed. 1. Take a few free magazines and maps from the airport kiosks - they're helpful and has discounts too. 2. Take the tram across the street from baggage claim to the centralized rental car hub. 3. Shocked as there was no line as I approached the Enterprise customer service desk! Very personable individual who went through my contract and options. I declined additional insurance coverage, because my policy back home had me covered. I did opt for the prepaid gas (back on 8/26/25 it was $4/gallon). The new compact I had was so economical, I only spent an additional $30 before returning it on 9/2/25 slightly above E. Just make the best decision for your holiday needs. Note: Heed the warnings about driving in appropriate areas while on the island. I did not take my new compact off roading on unpaved, rugged routes! 4. I went to the second floor where I was greeted by another Enterprise person who pointed out the cars I was able to select from. Loaded the luggage into the trunk, took a 360 degree photo of the vehicle & license plate just in case, and familiarized myself with the car features. 5. Drove to the checkout gate where another airport person (who had just returned from my home state visiting family) finished off the car rental process and off on my merry way. 6. Returning to the airport, give yourself ample time to deal with OGG logistics. I followed the signage for car rental return. I drove to the appointed drop off area, got the vehicle checked back in without any issues, rode the tram back to the terminal, cleared the TSA and US agricultural checkpoints, and received my Enterprise receipt by email by the time I was at my departure gate/waiting area. Super customer service across the board from the OGG/Kahului Enterprise staff on 8/26/25 and 9/2/25. Sometimes one has to break from the usual and get pleasantly surprised. Aloha and mahalo!
