The food at this place is not bad. The service is great. My only complaint is that the place needs some love. It's just really dirty inside. It's not very hard to clean ceiling fans yet the ones in this place look like they haven't been cleaned in a few years. Nice little cafe we stopped at for breakfast on our way up US 1 and 101 on our road trip. Got a nice tasty breakfast and was able to get one of the kid's meals even though we weren't kids lol. We stopped in for breakfast, this was the second time eating here. Nice location close to Lompoc Hospital. We didn't have much time to waste, but after spending all night at the emergency room for a family member, we were pretty hungry. The food was really good, we were seated and served right away, the only issue was the service. The waitress said she would be right back for coffee, but apparently, her breakfast was more important than ours, she was behind the counter eating the entire time we were there. Another waitress finally refilled our coffee. She finally came back to our table after she finished eating to give us our check. The last time we were there we had to wait 15 minutes to pay our bill, they do not have a host. Worst service we've experienced in Lompoc. I hope she enjoyed her breakfast, we don't plan on coming back, too many other better places in Lompoc to eat breakfast and get good service. BTW, I'm a pretty good tipper, but not this time. The food is okay but the service is terrible. I came here with my family and our waitress was super slow and unattentive. It took forever to get our drinks and then a good 30-40 minutes just for her to take our order . After taking our order we didn't get refills even though it took forever. Once she brought the food back she had no idea who ordered what so getting the plates passed out was a little much. And still no refills. While we were eating she never checked up on us and took a good 45 minutes just to give us our check. We started to make this a regular place to stop for lunch or dinner depending on the time of day. We like to order an entrée with the all-you-can-eat salad bar. But, when we can't eat both, we like to take a salad with us. I have been looking for a decent breakfast place at a reasonable price in Lompoc and finally found it in Budget Cafe. The Tri Tip and eggs were excellent, with actual tri tip steaks served with perfect eggs, fruit, and bread. All of this with coffee cost about the price of just the plate at most places here, It is a hole in the wall restaurant with a Southwestern theme, lots of old people were chatting when I went in. The place serves breakfast all day, which is nice on those days you want tri tip and eggs at 3 PM. read more

Well we had eaten here once before and the service and food here was great. This time around the food was just okay and from what I was told the waitresses were new. Items were forgotten from our meal and the meal was very bland. It's not a bad place, I understand that everyone has to start somewhere and our waitress has to be properly trained which is not her fault because it was painfully obvious she wasn't trained. My boyfriend and I happen to be driving through Lompoc and decided to eat at this "fine" establishment. This was New Years Day and as soon as we walked in, all the patrons just stared at us. We stood there for 1 minute until we were acknowledged. We were told to sit anywhere so we sat in a booth. Another 5 minutes passed by and noticed one of the waitresses filling up the sugars on the tables and the other one immediately attending to a couple who had just walked in after we were seated. My boyfriend went and got us menus and still, no one came to ask if we wanted drinks. After what seemed like forever, we stood up and walked out. We headed over to the Jalama Beach cafe which was 1000 times better. Excellent food, service and ambiance. The waitress seated us promptly and attended to us i n a timely manner. The Budget Cafe is very old and looked like no one did anything to maintain it's appearance. I would not recommend this place even if it was the last place to eat! read more

Food was good excellent but the HUGE cockroach crawling up the wall behind us was gross...kid's had just received food I informed the waitress that maybe she should tell owner she was real apologetic so I felt bad causing a scene whn the "roach" came bak so I called her over she helped us move n as soon as we were in the clear he came back now coming towards a big picture my husband was sitting infrnt of so we all slid over so he could at least try to enjoy b-day breakfast w/o worrying if it's crawling on his back. Stay AWAY! I am surprised the health department has not investigated this place. Dishes are thrown into bins by the "front" of the entrance and piled up. I arrived after the "breakfast" crowed and the pile had been pilling up for a while! That just tells me, cleanliness isn't on the top of the menu. :( Ordered a hamburger. Frozen patty cooked well done. Budget applies to how much the owners invest in this restaurant. Décor is from the seventies and probably so are the spider webs. Filthy place. Worst service I have ever had. Our server was extremely rude and unprofessional! We waited a good 5-10 minutes just to get our drinks and then waited another 45 minutes for our food! Only 3 of the 4 of us got our food. We had to ask our server about 10 minutes later where my boyfriends food was. When she brought it 5 minutes later (which she never apologized for) it was cold. As we were about to leave she then brought our fruit cup and basically threw it on the table and walked away. When we got up to leave, we waited in the front for our check (which she clearly saw us) and kept walking back and fourth as another server watched and laughed. She then handed another waitress our checks to give to us. Never even apologized for any of her service!! Hands down the worst waitress I have ever had. We will never go back read more

I had the most disgusting experience here. Came in with my 2 kids to have breakfast. Our food came to the table & I was taking a scoop of the butter & as I'm doing this there is a huge cockroach IN THE BUTTER. I show our server this & she says "oh I'm sorry about that, let me get you a new butter" as if that problem happens often. I was so grossed out and disgusted I just walked out of the restaurant. We would stop here on the way home from a family reunion. Normally we get get good service and food. This time was a mess. No straws or large cups. We had to remind the server of our toast and pancakes. The biscuits were very hard and cold. We still never got the pancakes so she discounted our bill. Sounded like other tables were unhappy too. Over all not happy with our experience. Will probably find a different breakfast location or eat at the hotel. read more

Great food, welcoming atmosphere, and the waitress (Sarah) was top notch. She allowed us to make substitutions to make our meals customized exactly to our liking. And to add to her excellent customer service, my son left his iPod on the bench after we left, little did we know. She found my email address in the iPod, emailed me, and then even dropped the iPod off at our house! I really appreciate people going out of their way to help a person out. The breakfast is great, and the burgers are even better! I wouldn't recommend the biscuits and gravy, as places like American Host really know their sausage gravy. The only thing that makes me skeptical is hearing the microwave going every few minutes. Other than that, they have yet to serve me a poor meal. read more

Had breakfast on Sunday November 8, 2015. This was our second trip, not sure if we will go back. It was pretty busy so we expected to wait a little for our food. The coffee served to my husband was not very hot and the cup was not clean. We waited well over 45 minutes for our almost cold food, the waitress offered to have it heated up...didn't have the time to wait. She did not offer to adjust the bill as should have been done. The men's restroom was gross to say the least. Deserved one star but I hate to do that. The server was really sweet. read more

Worst restaurant in all of Lompoc. It's a shame this "eatery" is on Ocean Ave. No actually it's a shame it is even in Lompoc. We have been TWICE here and BOTH times we received horrible service and mediocre food. We have the unpleasant opportunity of being "serviced" by the WORST waitress EVER. And unfortunately we had the same waitress both times. Rude, inattentive, and hostile. She threw dishes into the washing bin. When asked for more creamer she sighed loudly, jerked the empty dish out of my hand, and practically slammed the another bowl on the table. She also apparently doesn't know what the meaning of a refill is. She brought our toast late and didn't bring my husband's English Muffin until after he was finished eating. Finally halfway through our meal she bring us more coffee...only because my mother-in-law asked. Also she kept running to the bathroom looking like she was going to puke. Honestly I would never eat there again even if this was the last "restaurant" in town. Better place to eat is The Cajun Kitchen next to Starbucks on H St. There is a reason why there is always a line to eat there! The Budget shouldn't have the name of restaurant, this place is a legit dive. Oh, by the way I couldn't tell you the name of the waitress because she didn't even tell us! If I could rate this ridiculous place a 0 I would I went to go have breakfast with my family since I haven't done that in a few years so we go in and get seated around 9:15 am its takes this women about 5 minutes to come and take the drink order which is fine because we were ready to order the food as well we ordered 3 teas, dr. pepper and a apple juice well the apple juice was for my little brother who is 8 so she brings the soda and teas and tells me if im ready to get my side salad I can get up and get it so I get up and there is nothing ready for the salad bar so I told her that it wasn't ready she told me that she was still working on it and would let me know when it is ready this is after she told me to get up and get it so I sit back down for about 10 minutes and my little brother asked where his apple juice was because he was coughing from his allergies so I get up and ask her if she could make it she said when im done with this to go order and said it very rude and so I sat down confused because its not hard to go and make a apple juice so I had to walk my brother to go get a apple juice from a different place because 10 minutes after that it still wasn't done so my mom asked if she could get the food to go she said what do you think its ready its going to be awhile so my mom told her just get it to go please than the waitress said to my mom where is your daughter so she can make her salad its finally ready my mom told her my daughter changed her mind she does not want it because I had to go to the car at that point so then my mom goes to pay and my mom asked her your not charging me for the salad and again got rude towards my mom and snapped at her saying no its not on there but she would not let her see the receipt and then my mom had told her that my brother needed the drink because he had allergies and as she walked away she mouthed im not a mind reader yet I had walked up 25 minutes before this for the apple juice so after that we were pretty upset but got home and my brother started to eat his fruit and than started yelling so we ran over to see what was wrong and there was a spider in his fruits so I killed it and told him do not eat this I cannot believe it I will be back to talk to the owner since they said there is no manager but this is unacceptable ive never ever seen this before and I will be posting in ever forum I possible can btw the lady who took our order was about 5" 10 with dark brown hair around 9:15 on 4-1-15 read more
