"This waitperson is 100 percent pure love!"
    Alice C.

I do not recall ever receiving so much love on a first time visit to a bar. I wish we had a bar like this in my hometown. That is all you really need to know, right there. The customer service at this bar was off the chart when we visited. Our waitperson, Nichole, met us outside, and she was fun and flirty, and then once inside she was just wonderful. We ordered what I think was called the Buckboard Burger. It was kind of an everything burger, with fried mozzarella sticks, and bacon, and jalapenos, and a bunch of other stuff. It was sort of an everything burger, and no one our age should eat anything like that, but it went down good. The fries are made on demand and come out crispy and hot. Hot crispy classic bar fries; I love it. So other stuff you might want to know. This is a deep narrow bar, broken into 3 zones. There is a dance floor in the back that is ear piercing loud. Not my thing, but the music was mostly rock, and retro rock, which is my thing. In the middle there are three pool tables and some video gaming. Up front is a fairly classic small town bar, with several table and plenty of room to circulate. If you like bars, and you like burgers, and you like being loved, AND you happen to be in the middle of nowhere, Reed City, Michigan, you will love Buckboard Bar.

The Time Out burger! Oh My, if you eat this whole thing you'll be in a very pleasant, full belly, food coma time out!

Passing through Reed City and this place didn't even show up on my "restaurants near me" search but we happened to see it on our way to a place down the street. We saw the sign, award winning burger and couldn't resist. Is it greasy bar food? Yes, but the best onion rings and burger EVER!

Voted Best Burger in the county!

Very good bar food prepared quickly and friendly staff. Recommend when you want to eat quickly or hang out and take in the local color.

This place is a classic! Once known as BIG AL's PLACE and reopened as Lakeside Bar and Grill…read more Same great American food menu. Classic watering hole and family style restaurant. Never gets rowdy just a classic roadside stop. Usually you'll find a bunch of locals sitting at the bar. Lots of TVs for sports and what not. They used to have killer soup and salad bar that came with the larger entrees but with COVID you just get a plain choice of soup OR salad. The soups are homemade. I wish I could talk more about their menu but I go there for the biggest piece of Walleye I have ever seen on a plate. A two foot long fish had to die for your supper! And you get half of it. Lightly breaded in a potato crust and pan fried it keeps the fish moist and you can appreciate the taste of the fish! Served with your choice of veggies or potato any way you want it baked, fries or smashed. I have also had their fried cod it good but probably came off a truck. Maybe it's hand battered ask them. Lake perch is yummy too. Always walk away too stuffed for dessert.

There were two additional staff siting at a back table the bartender had to go ask them to Help. The food was good but service was one of the worst I've experienced. Would give zero stars if this was an option. We took the boat over for a "quick" lunch which ended up taking up most of the afternoon - 3 hours!!!

We had an enjoyable experience with good food and a great selection of drinks…read more We started with the Dilly Pizza Sticks - they're great and the perfect balance of cheese, pickle and sauce. The dill pickle ranch was packed with dill and had good flavor. The meals were the Pesto Chicken Salad, and not pictured the Reuben Turkey. The salad was a smaller portion than I expected, but priced appropriately at just $12 is a great deal. The Basil Pesto dressing is divine, so flavorful and the goat cheese was perfect. This salad will absolutely bring me back. The selection of craft beer, cider, mead, and wines was outstanding - we each opted for a flight and got to try 8 amazing selections. Also priced at just $12 for a flight - it was a great deal. The cherry wheat was the best cherry wheat I've ever tried, this brewery absolutely needs to begin distributing. I'd love to offer this selection at our bar. My one complaint (because I'm super picky and quite snobby about sauces) - the ranch needs to be homemade. With so many delicious dressing and sauce recipes on the menu it's a really big disappointment to have ranch that's not homemade. For me being a sauce snob - that's a deal breaker for me at any restaurant. Overall - our experience, service and vibe here was outstanding and we felt comfortable and right at home. Our server was fantastic, the ambiance inside is very chill and relaxing, and the food was great. I'll still give ya 5 stars because it was really great overall!

We ordered the Ancho Nachos with a side of beer cheese. The beer cheese was fantastic and honestly what made the nachos enjoyable. The melted cheese on the nachos themselves was pretty sparse, so having the beer cheese on the side was key. One thing I really liked was the banana peppers. They were a nice acidic surprise that added a pop of flavor in place of your traditional jalapeños. I think the dish would benefit from more tomatoes or a fresh salsa to brighten everything up. The biggest thing holding the nachos back was the chips. They were thick, grainy, old-style nacho chips that tasted a bit like cardboard. A better chip would elevate the entire dish! At $16 for a fairly modest bowl of nachos, I expected a more polished and elevated offering. The flavors are there, and the beer cheese is excellent, but the overall execution doesn't quite match the price point. Overall, I'd happily return for the cider, friendly service, and enjoyable atmosphere. A few small tweaks to the nachos could make them every bit as good as the rest of the experience.
