We came here for lunch on a Tuesday after hearing so many great things about it. It was a bit difficult to get to because the road the restaurant is on was closed for construction, but we decided it was worth the effort based on the reviews. The restaurant is known for its shawarma, with several protein options, and quesadillas. It's a self-service restaurant where you order at the front counter. One thing that was confusing is that there's only one menu hanging from the ceiling with very limited descriptions. It took us a while to figure out the differences between the menu items. For example, if you want fries included, you have to order the Shawarma Box. The Bucharest Shawarma appears to be different because it comes with cabbage and potatoes instead of lettuce. If you're dining in, they give you a table number and bring your food out once it's ready. The portions were generous. My shawarma had plenty of meat, and for only a few dollars more, the fries were a large serving. The curly fries reminded me of Arby's curly fries and were honestly the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the food itself didn't live up to the hype. I ordered the lamb shawarma, and while there was plenty of meat, I found it to be dry and overly salty. It also could have used a lot more vegetables, as it felt unbalanced. My friend wanted to upgrade her order to the Shawarma Box after receiving her wrap. The cashier was nice enough to charge only the price difference, which we appreciated. However, the fries were never brought out. After waiting quite a while, we had to ask about them, and since we were ready to leave, we ended up canceling the order. Because the restaurant is mostly self-service, customer service is minimal, making it difficult to get assistance when something goes wrong. The restaurant itself has a large bar in the center and a casual atmosphere, but overall, I left disappointed. The food is really good here, and there are a lot of places to sit. We were lucky we got there before the baseball game ended so the line was short, but they do greet you with a frown here. They need lessons from Jordan at the Royal Oak location. They serve the food pretty quickly. Parking is hard to find here, at least right now because of the construction. And it's not clear where to park in the back, but I think that's where all the employees park so I'm not really sure where to park when I come over here. There's a big parking lot. Inside, it's open and airy with high ceilings and plenty of seating. There's even a dedicated DoorDash pickup window, which tells you they mean business. Service? Lightning fast. My order was ready before they said it would be, and everyone I interacted with was genuinely friendly. Now, let's talk food, because WOW. I got the regular chicken shawarma with extra garlic sauce (do not skip this, it's the secret handshake). This thing was absolutely loaded. Juicy, charred chicken packed into a pita with lettuce and tomato, wrapped so generously they double wrap it to contain the glorious mess. It's a two-hand situation, no question. Messy in the best way possible. The curly fries? Crunchy perfection. Slightly reminiscent of Arby's, but with their own flavorful twist. And the portion... borderline absurd. Enough fries to feed a small group. All of this came out to around $12, which feels like you got away with something. Came here with two old high school friends when visiting my sister who lives right around the block from here. It's an interesting place and I'm not sure either of the other two guys had been to this one. I had a chicken shawarma sandwich that was really tasty. I was surprised they didn't have Vernors or Faygo as a always want some when visiting in Detroit, but all good. The restaurant is in an outdoor mall near a gas station and other stores and restaurants in the strip mall. We stopped here for dinner before a show at the Fisher because I knew it would be quicker than typical sit-down service. I'm so glad we did! The ambiance was fun and friendly. As someone who easily gets anxiety ordering at new places, I felt perfectly at ease here. I love that they offered Detroit sodas but also had Coke products. (I was a big fan of the Detroit root beer and lemonade.) Ordering was easy. Staff were polite when bringing the food to the table. I sat in a booth and wish I had snapped a picture but they're high-top booths and I looooove that they have a bar for your feet/a footrest. Sometimes my body doesn't like my feet dangling for too long but this was perfect and I was comfortable for the entire meal. I ordered "shoestring fries" and they looked completely normal size, not skinny. They were delicious nonetheless! I tried the curly fries and they were also yummy! Shawarma sandwiches were pretty messy. Don't unwrap the whole thing from the foil or else the goods will drop out of the bottom of the pita. I also wish I had snagged a fork before I sat down. Used to love this place.. came to lunch here often when I worked downtown. I just went and was saddened to see how the quality of their product and service has dropped so drastically... I dream of the Niki salad with chicken on top. This visit, It was very obvious that something changed in the chicken they used.. it used to be so fresh and tender. I don't know what I was eating this time.. it was flavorless hard rubber, almost every piece I tried was disgusting. I took it off and it was all thrown out. I have no idea what that was.., The slaw in the salad, which I crave, tasted like there was some cleaning solution in it. Funky as heck... that was thrown out also... The bartender was too busy down at the other end of the bar being loud as hell with his freinds, to complain to and I'm sure he wouldn't have cared.... Paid my bill and got the hell out of there... We stopped by Bucharest Grill to grab a bite to eat before driving back to Grand Rapids after the Lions/Packers game. The restaurant was pretty busy, but we were able to find a big table for our group of six while we waited for our food. It seems that the menu at this Bucharest Grill is the same as the other locations in the area, with shawarma, salads, and appetizers. I've been to other locations and have always enjoyed the shawarma. Half of our group's order came out quickly, but the other half took quite awhile. They have a bar so a couple people in our group ordered a beer while they waited. There are lots of TVs in the bar so I think it would be a fun spot to watch a game. We saw a lot of football fans in there and even ran into some friends, which was fun. We all got chicken shawarma, so we probably should've gotten the six-pack box as I think it saves you a bit of money. The chicken was juicy and tender. Stones throw away from the baseball stadium and a full bar on deck. Quite the spot for pre-gaming and loading up on food. But unfortunately the food wasn't as good as I remembered.
