I have been following this place for the years since it opened and its rave reviews but somehow I never made it here as I was stuck in the rut of "State-Street-in -Media -only" hairdressing. There's approximately 11 salons on that street and small side streets so that is the area in Western Delaware County where everybody goes. State Street is the happening place to go to get your hair done. Chrome isn't within the downtown area per se but on the outskirts out by the Media bypass. And this is one of the reasons why I jumped out of my comfort zone and gave it a shot because they have their own parking lot and that's worth it's weight in gold instead of driving around for 10 minutes trying to find a parking spot in busy Downtown Media. That's where the differences end. This salon is just as active, vibrant ,upbeat and in tune with current styles and products as all those overpriced State Street salons. I tend to only want to stay with hairdressers for about five years so I was looking for somebody new and I selected SHERI M. I was not disappointed. She spent her time looking at my hair and the suggestions she had were great. This was indicative of her vast experience as a hairdresser. She has a true "feel "for her clients. The first time I went she cut my hair and I was very happy with it so I scheduled a foil touchup three weeks later. I was beyond happy with how I looked after I left there. When she found that I sometimes like to go to bed with my hair damp because it comes out wavy and curly in the morning, she suggested a product to put in before bedtime that would keep the curls intact but eliminate the frizz that has seemed to have developed in my hair in the last year. I love that this is a family owned and run salon. I hadn't met the owners but I met a man there recently who was doing shampooing who was somehow related to the family and he gave me the history of how Chrome came about. It was also interesting to hear that they had recently started their own hairdressing Academy. All in all you'll get a great feel for Chrome and enjoy your experience there. I know I'll certainly be back.

And inside it is SPACIOUS, with numerous different rooms... which means they are set-up really well for distancing. (I was impressed.) The one thing to be careful about is your exit. If you need to make a left turn across Baltimore Pike and if traffic is busy, I recommend you go right instead and do a u-turn at the first traffic light. (Much easier and safer.) (I go to Chrome for Mag. I'm a fan of hers. She's good at cutting curly/wild hair.)

I…read moremade an appointment and had to cancel last minute because of him - and felt terrible about it but needed/wanted a cut - and then rescheduled for the next day. When I walked in, my hairdresser was visibly mad at me, had extremely negative energy, and was extremely short (and rather unprofessional) when asking what I would like to have done. I apologized multiple times but I could tell that she was still upset. As a mom of 2 kids, this was something I was really looking forward to on my birthday - and it was my self-care gift to myself. She did not ask me how I was doing but then proceeded to talk about herself and all of her own negative life experiences the entire time. I left not liking the cut and feeling energetically upset. Needless to say I will be finding a new place for all future cuts.

That is probably why the way this ended was so upsetting and surprising to me. I had a full extension maintenance appointment scheduled for September, but I'm going on vacation and was hoping to have my hair done sooner. My stylist was completely booked and then going on vacation herself. I simply asked the salon whether another stylist might be able to help me. I continued trying to reach the salon through their text number, by phone, and by email. I wasn't trying to be difficult or demanding. I genuinely just wanted to know whether another stylist could do my hair before my trip. The salon was also holding additional extensions that I had already purchased and paid for, so when I eventually scheduled a consultation elsewhere, I needed to retrieve my own hair to bring with me. When I finally reached an employee by phone, I simply explained that I wanted to pick up my hair. She asked why, and I answered honestly that I had scheduled somewhere else because I needed to have it done before vacation and I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone at the salon. I thought that was the end of the conversation. Instead, shortly afterward I received a text from my stylist, who is also the owner. She told me she had spoken with the employee, accused me of being rude to her staff, and told me: "I think it's better for you to just come and get your hair and go elsewhere." She then told me she would not tolerate a client speaking to her staff that way and ended the message with: "Thanks for your business." I wasn't asking for special treatment. I wasn't angry that my stylist couldn't fit me in. I wasn't asking her to work during her vacation. I wasn't threatening to leave. I was simply trying to find another stylist who could accommodate me before my trip and, when that didn't work out, pick up the expensive extensions I had already purchased so I could have them done somewhere else temporarily. I genuinely wish someone had simply called me and said, "Hey, there seems to have been a misunderstanding. Can you tell me what happened?" I would have been more than happy to talk about it. Instead, a client who had every intention of returning was told to collect her belongings and go elsewhere. I'm attaching the relevant text messages/email because I don't want this review to become a situation where it's simply my word against someone else's. I'd rather potential clients read the actual exchange and decide for themselves how they feel about the way it was handled. I'm especially sharing this for other extension clients. Extensions are a significant investment, and in my case the salon was physically holding hair that I had already purchased. Communication and trust are incredibly important when a business is holding something expensive that belongs to you. I'm not happy to leave this review. I'm actually really disappointed that things ended this way because I didn't want to leave this salon in the first place. Unfortunately, after being spoken to this way and dismissed as a client over what I believe was a misunderstanding, I would not feel comfortable returning and cannot recommend the salon. I even waited for a response from her after I explained the misunderstanding, thinking she would at least acknowledge what happened or try to resolve things, but I never received one.
