My sons hair cut is an uneven disaster. His hair was down to his shoulders. I asked for a cut that would be just above his ear, and slightly like a bowl cut. What we got was bangs that came to his eyes and the back of the head uneven from right to left (left longer). We asked for the back to be fixed. Next thing I know, she is cutting both sides even shorter in the back and in the front. And it still is not a clean even cut. Not at all what I asked if my son wanted. Only plus side-- the cars you can sit in for a cut, the lollipop and balloon. The hairdresser was nice enough just not good at cutting. I actually have been doing a better job than she did and my mom haircuts are not great. read more

We love this place and have been going for years, since my 5-year-old son was a baby. We followed our favorite stylist, Violet, from Eagle Rock to the Montrose location. We like a longer, layered look for my son that with a less skilled stylist could easily turn into a bowl cut. Not with Violet. She is a master, in addition to being fabulous with kids. She's so good that I even had her cut my hair today and it looks amazing! We'll all be returning again and again. About the salon itself, it's cute and clean with plenty of fun stuff for kids to do while they're waiting. There are even personal screens for kids to watch their favorite shows on Netflix while getting their hair cut. A+ read more

My son had a hard time getting started and the staff did nothing to encourage him or make him feel at ease. I had to do everything down to sitting him in my lap and suggesting what to put on the TV. For a place that is supposed to be great with kids, they were terrible. Also, are you supposed to get a balloon or lollipop? They were on the counter but we weren't offered either. M reached for a balloon and I said loudly I don't think we can take these; I think they are just for decoration. No one responded. We will definitely not be going back. Update 3 months later...after my last review the owner Carlos immediately reached out to me and offered for me to try out next haircut free at Bubble Cuts Eagle Rock. Ms. Deb was amazing, greeted us at the door, let my son use her broom (his favorite thing) and let him pick out a balloon of whatever color he wanted. She also let my husband blow bubbles for him while he got his hair cut. He doesn't watch TV so the screen didn't interest him, but she was great at winning his trust and getting his attention. She even showed him how the electric trimmer worked on dad's hair and let him feel it tickle his skin before using it on his head. Sarina the receptionist was also warm and friendly, smiling the whole time to every customer, chatting with us, and watching my son play happily after his cut. First-time here on 10/29 at 5pm, hair everywhere on the floor and in the rides. Credit card machine out of order, paid $5 cash for tip still black face and no thank you. No bubble blowing, no balloon or lollipop for my daughter, bad service! I called to make the appointment a few days before 10/29 and asked 2 times how much for hair washing, the woman who answered my call said no extra charge. They try their best to help the scared toddlers feel better about getting a haircut. They offered my son a lollipop and turned on the tv for him. My only complaint is that they have a little play area and one time my son wanted to stay playing for a little after his cut and I felt a little uncomfortable about staying past our haircut by the looks they were giving us. We will continue to go back but will do my best to avoid letting him see the play area as it was clear it is more for those waiting, but you can see how that might be hard for a toddler to understand. read more

I took my daughters here for a haircut, they have curly hair and are African-American. While I was chasing my younger daughter around, my older daughter (6) was getting a haircut so I wasn't paying much attention except for the initial direction on where I wanted the haircut to go. When we got home I noticed that a huge piece in the very front and center of her head was cut down to the scalp. It felt violating as how can someone make such an obvious mistake? They have special seats for them that are fun cars like a taxi police car etc. They put on something they can watch on a TV to distract them and it definitely works. After they are done they get a lollipop as a treat. They have a small play area with toys too. Definitely make an appointment. They can get busy sometimes but definitely worth it. I hate to be the one to complain but I didn't, or shall I say, my son didn't have the best experience here. I called and specifically said My toddler can be difficult and will be sitting on my lap so I would need someone to try to cut hair as fast as possible. Went in and showed the lady a pic of what we would like or at least close to it. I completely understand that it can be a difficult job when the kid is screaming and crying but this lady took her sweet time while my son was screaming from The top of his lungs. I had to hold him down tightly so she can cut/use the buzzer. Not once did she check to see if his hair is somewhat even. I had to keep saying please fix this side/that side. I mean it was super obvious and uneven. Of course I understand it's not going to be perfect but come on! Did not clean him with a towel, hair was all in my sons mouth! did not bother putting the apron on me or him instead said, he doesn't want it... well I out of all people know that but his hair was super long and needed a cut. I'm sorry but if you want someone fast, she not the right person to go to. Long blonde hair. Rather not say names. Did not even approach my son with a smile, no lollipop nothing. Some of these kiddo are terrified and you try to go somewhere where you feel welcomed even for that short amount of time. Did not feel that with her. I was pleased to find out that because of the Farmer's Market in Sunday's, they only do walk-ins. As someone who is terrible at making appointments and reservations, this was key! They close at 4 on Sunday, and we wandered on in around 3. The street in front was still closed off as they were packing up from the market, but there was plenty of street parking on Ocean View Blvd. (Bring coins for the meters.) We walked in as they were just finishing up with someone. We were quickly checked in and greeted, and in less than 5 minutes my son was in a chair! They gave him his choice of vehicle and his choice of cartoon. They were gentle with him, checked in with me about length, and gave him a great cut!! I know we won't always be in and out as quickly as this, but I love how easy the whole process is. We'll definitely be regulars here! read more

My kids love coming here. Very friendly staff. There is a section where the kids can play until it's there turn. They do take walk-ins but I recommend appointments because they can get very busy during the weekends. Each station has a theme and the chairs is a car. They have a small play area in the back, adorable cars to serve as barber chairs, and TV monitors to keep the children entertained while they get their hair cut They give out balloons/lollipos at the end of the appointment. Arrived at 1145 and the only woman working asks me if I have and appointment. I responded that I had an appointment with Violet. So we walked in to Bubble Cuts hoping that we'd get a decent hair cut for my son since it IS mainly intended for children. WRONG. About 90 seconds in, the hair dresser asked me how it was. Huh? How is what? You JUST started cutting his hair. I hadn't even had a chance to sit down yet! I walked over and was a little confused because his hair looked EXACTLY THE SAME as it did a minute and a half ago. The hair dresser was nice, but sorry, nice doesn't cut it (no pun intended). The hair dresser definitely needed training. She was clueless. My husband and I had to direct her as to how to cut his hair and we're not even hair stylists! She then cut it too short and said, "This is what's in style now". Ummmm, sorry....we didn't ask for this style. It was very clear she had no training and didn't know what she was doing. I'm putting Bubble Cuts at 3 stars for the time being because I'm ambivalent with our first experience here. So, the kids LOVED coming here for their hair cut and they had a lot of fun. They love just coming to the place where I get my haircut and watching so maybe that eased them into getting their hair cut? Who knows. All the kid-friendly attractions they have are perfect. The pricing is also fair for hair cuts. Where I'm a bit sad, I didn't think the styles that they cut for both of my daughters were nice at all. My wife said with my one daughter they were done in about 5 minutes and she has all these weird layers in her. Now when trying to braid her hair (which she loves looking like Elsa) It's hard to do as there are pieces sticking out from everywhere. My other daughter, her hair was cut a lot shorter than we wanted and also had a few strange layers so I was pretty disappointed when they came home and had these strange haircuts. However on the flip side, it's been over a month and the one daughter whose hair was too short, as her hair is growing back, it looks a lot better than it did before we even had it cut! Maybe she needed that cut to level set her hair? My other daughter still has all these layers, but now they sort of look like the Jennifer Aniston look of the mid-late 90's so it's not terrible, but still not ideal. Maybe it's our fault for not being more specific? I'm not opposed to going back as my kids loved it so much, but I think an explanation of what we'd like done will be necessary next time! read more
