Wow! From looking at the reviews, I see that there isn't a lot of love for this place. I suppose I can see why---it must really be a zoo at the beginning of the semester with students buying textbooks and dorm supplies. All that said..."Yay! I'm a fan" and in part it has to do with these 2 words---alumni discount. It's a 10% discount for alums when you show your alumni card and I'm always glad to get any discount. The first floor has a Starbucks and we've enjoyed stopping in to get a drink and sit a while. Also, on that level is where you find most of the BU branded clothing for sale. I say "most" because they've moved around the "alumni" clothing more than once, which is frustrating. This last time it was on the first floor but apart from the other stuff. The second floor is like a typical Barnes and Noble bookstore with books and magazines on various topics. I like that there are plenty of places to sit down and read for a while---something not found too much at other B&N stores. The third floor is where dorm room supplies are found plus other BU branded items. For a time, that's where alumni gear was located as well as shirts for the various schools within BU. This time around, they had shirts for the various BU sports teams. Another floor has textbooks but I haven't explored it, as I have no need to do so lest it just might trigger one of those dreams where you discover it's final exam time and you haven't attended any classes. Then you wake up and you are so relieved LOL! For me, no trip to Boston is complete unless we make a visit here. Every time we're here, we don't go away empty handed. This BU bookstore is far better than the one that existed when I went there (many, many moons ago). Back in the old days, the bookstore was in the basement of the student union and was a rather depressing place. So it's really nice to see how much improved it is now.

It would have been nice if they'd updated their website to reflect the fact that they'd moved...

Thanks for NOT UPDATING YOUR ADDRESS. When was it, exactly, that this store moved? Drove out here only to find the store empty and a sign telling me they'd moved to another location. Thanks a lot, store manager, for not updating the address in Yelp. (By the way... since the store isn't going to do it, I'll help you out: they've moved to 910 Commonwealth Avenue.)

TURN ON THE FRIGGIN AC FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! First time visit for Andy Cohen book signing (swoon), I was a sweaty miserable mess by the time I got to my beloved... horrifying! The staff-guy that was directing the line was not nice. He seemed very annoyed by everything and everyone, although, other employee's were nice and friendly, so not sure what his deal was. 2 floors and lots of BU apparel on the fist floor. I find it ridiculous to not crank the AC when you have a book signing and you know there will be tons of people crammed into the store for hours. Bathroom on the 2nd floor was dis-gust-ing!

Beacon Hill Books and Cafe is a three story independent bookstore set inside a townhouse on Beacon…read moreHill, and the physical space does as much work as the inventory in making it worth a visit. We walked into a building with the kind of architectural character that chain bookstores cannot manufacture, with small rooms opening into each other across multiple floors, wallpapered walls, and reading nooks distributed throughout that invite you to slow down rather than move through quickly. The book selection is well curated with staff recommendation cards on the shelves that actually reflect genuine enthusiasm rather than perfunctory notes. We saw limited edition hardcovers and local and regional titles appearing alongside the broader fiction and nonfiction selection. Browsing felt productive rather than overwhelming because the curation kept things focused. The kids section upstairs is one of the more delightful in Boston, with a train running along a track near the ceiling that tends to make a strong impression on younger visitors. There is also an art print vending machine on the second floor that draws its own audience of visitors looking for something small and specific to take home. The cafe occupies the lower level and operates as a separate experience from the bookshop above. We ordered the oat milk cappuccino with Vermont maple syrup, which was worth it. The morning glory scone and the popovers are two other items to consider. The cafe is tiny, around eight tables inside with a small patio, and reservations are recommended for breakfast and afternoon tea service. Pricing at the cafe is on the higher end, and certain fixed price service formats on specific dates push it considerably further, so checking current pricing before booking is worth doing. For a bookshop that doubles as a destination in its own right, Beacon Hill Books and Cafe delivers a cozy, curated experience that rewards lingering. It is the kind of place we would return to just to sit and read with a good coffee.

Super cute bookstore with one of those Inciardi Print vending machines on the top level…read more This is no barnes and Nobles, it is a skinny and maybe 4 store old brownstone with skinny stairs. But beautiful and curated inside. My quibble with the Inciardi print machine - is that I would rather the prints be Boston Specific - these are just more generic. The One in San Francisco's north Beach has all SF ones (not super touristy, but hidden local gems, like Golden Boy Pizza, and a row house)
