I AM Books is molto buona! This quaint, local bookstore just screams North End. But not the cannoli-filled, tourist-laden part. The authentic, historic Italian-Bostonian part. You're bound to come across a book that you'll love! There are cookbooks (who doesn't love pasta and wine?), travel books, novels set in Italy (the shelves are arranged by where in Italy they occur - South, Central, North), and even books written in Italian. They also have an extensive kids' section in the back. If you're feeling adventurous, you can opt to take a "Blind Date with a Book." You pick out a brown paper-wrapped book which has a few descriptive phrases written on it, and hope for the best! I love this idea -- perfect if you don't want to make a decision. In addition, you can pick up non-book gifts like Boston mugs, stuffed lobster toys, tote bags, and notebooks. A visit to I AM Books is truly a unique, memorable experience in the North End.

    Love this concept!

Though small, it's worth a stop in here! I happened to pass by and my interest was caught by the selection of sale books outside. Inside, most of their books are more Italian oriented, but there were more boxes of sale books under the tables in the middle of the room. I was pleasantly surprised that even their sale boxes were sorted so it made browsing even easier! I ended up finding a great book for my flight back home for $3 plus I got some postcards. It's within easy walking distance from the main restaurant district, so why not stop in, right??

Quaint store and the selections were nicely displayed. It was a hot day in Boston and a very gracious owner/ employee brought out a few chairs while I waited for my family to complete a tour across the way. Support small businesses, hard to find great service these days and this shop is definitely doing things right.

They sell Green Eggs and Ham in Italian by Dr.Suess here, which I thought was kinda cool!

You may think I'm crazy, but my favorite part about Boston was this bookstore. It absolutely took…read moremy breath away! It is the cutest place ever, from their squirrel mascot, to the fireplace on each floor, to the windows on each end of the rooms that lit the rooms with sunlight, it truly had such a relaxing vibe. I loved the decor and how they converted the house into 4 stories of epic cuteness galore! Each floor had different genres of books, with the top floor (5th) housing the staff only area. The 4th floor has the children's/young adult books and I love how there are so many fun elements there, from the train that goes around the top by the ceiling, to the small red door that I think it just there for decoration? Unless it leads to some magical other part of the building... lol The ground level has a cafe and offers typical cafe food like sandwiches, soups and salads, but I think their specialty is breakfast/brunch items as well as afternoon tea. We wanted to sit down and enjoy a warm drink after our book browsing and were lucky that we were able to get seated right away, as shortly after there were larger parties coming in for brunch. Fully wheelchair accessible with access through the cafe, there is an elevator that will take you to all levels. There is one restroom on the 4th floor that is also accessible.

Solely reviewing the bookstore component and not the cafe…read more This is such a well curated and cute shop. The nooks with cookbooks and coffee table books are so aesthetically pleasing. The notes from the staff on their picks are really helpful too. Reminds me of the independent bookstores in the UK. This kids floor is also great with toys, including a toy train, and a fireplace. Two bathrooms too on this floor and the bottom floor.
