They had them in red, yellow, orange and a deep pink. I bought four! After discovering them, I now drive over the bridge to White Salmin during the spring for my annual planting. They have all the norms - annuals,…read moreperennials, veggies, herbs, roses, shrubs, trees - but the variety within each is like nothing I have ever seen before. So unique! The plants are healthy and thriving. I wanted everything! Gerbera daisies are one of my favorite flowers. With their bright colors of yellow, orange, red and pink, they remind me of happy faces and I always plant them in my containers. In winter months, I buy bouquets to brighten up my space. Typically I buy the yellows and oranges, which I call sunshine colors. At Good News Gardening, they had a variety that I had never seen; the petals were much thinner and in abundance, adding so much texture and whimsy. Even though the tag said Gerbera, I had to ask one of the ladies working there if it was, indeed, a Gerbera Daisy! Next year, this is where I will buy them, no question. As I wandered around, I noticed every section had unique varietals. The dahlias were the size of a dinner plate and the colors of peach, yellow, white and pink in one flower stopped me in my tracks. Only to be outdone by the vibrant orange and white striped variety. In the herb section, options are boundless. At least a dozen types of oregano. Spicy Italian oregano? Yes, please! Dozens of types of mint (plant only in a contained area) and so many varieties of basil. More types of lettuce and tomatoes than I had ever heard of or eaten. This incredulous reaction occurred in every area that I visited. I have been gardening for 40 years and today I learned so much! Wow. Inside they have houseplants and a huge section of seeds. I'm totally into Oregon wildflowers like the delicate blue cornflower, bright orange California poppy, yellow & orange milkweed and yarrow to name a few. They had seed packets of each or mixed. Lots of seeds for veggies, too. The section was extensive! When you are inside you will be serenaded by the dozens of little birds that found their way in and are sitting on the poles or in the rafters singing their songs! Everyone here is happy, and who wouldn't be?! Everyone working there was super friendly and helpful. They genuinely love what they do and are so knowledgeable. They don't just want to sell you something, they want what you purchase to grow and thrive. Shout out to Maria who shared my love for that incredible Gerbera Daisy and showed me all the different colors it came in. Prices are a bit higher but the quality and uniqueness makes it totally worth it. Next year, I will head directly here without even stopping anywhere else. With my limited amount of space for flowers, I only want the best and unique!

I really think it's thanks to the quality of the plants they have here, as well as the help I received, because I do not really have much of a green thumb! I will say I did not take the advice of keeping my peppers indoors when I purchased them in a colder month, but they are still budding/ flowering even though the leaves are not in their best shape, but that's my own fault for being impatient.

My first visit to the nursery was fantastic, thanks to a gentleman named Max who educated me about juniper trees. This past Monday, my boys and I returned in the morning to look for edging material and enjoy the flowers. However, we had an unusual encounter with a gentleman who approached us. When I joked about causing a ruckus and suggested he put my boys to work, he responded in a stern tone, saying they didn't need any help. It felt quite strange. When my son heard a horse and asked about it, the gentleman responded in Spanish, a language neither of us speaks. This left me feeling quite taken aback. Initially, I thought it might have been a misunderstanding. However, when I shared my experience with a coworker, she mentioned that Woods Nursery has a tone that can make visitors feel unwelcomed, which aligned with my experience. It's disheartening because Woods Nursery is such a beautiful place, and one unpleasant interaction can impact the overall experience. I believe the gentleman might be unaware of how his approach comes across, and I hope this feedback is helpful in making the nursery a more welcoming place for everyone. I ended up going to Home Depot and buying the same materials needed for a quarter of the price cheaper.

While driving down 12th Street, the lush green plants in the window caught my attention. The next day I had to come back and check it out. The owner and those working there are so friendly in that small town way that doesn't exist in many places. Well it's on full display here! When I explained that I was trying to replace two orange bromeliads, they offered to order some for me. Bromeliads or any plant I need that is not in the store. When I mentioned that my large aloe is covered in white, scale fungus or mites, they informed me that it is lacking light . I've Googled this a dozen times and that never came up! Shopping here is as much about getting educated on how to care for your plants to as it is about finding a specific plant. The goal is for the plant to thrive long term. While perusing the shop, I noticed some planters filled with three or four indoor houseplants that would be a stunning gift or an arrangement for your own home. Especially the ones that had a pop of color from the African Violets. I may have to go back for one! All the plants were healthy and thriving. There were anthurium with waxy, shiny, red heart shaped leaves; snake plants that are so easy to maintain; lots of pathos that are super easy to grow; an assortment of orchids in multiple colors; and a plethora of succulents and air plants. The shop is small but everything is styled so nicely that they fit in a lot of inventory while still keeping it spacious so customers can easily make their way around. Loved everything about this shop! So happy to find a plant and floral shop in the heights of Hood River.

The time before this I rented a pressure washer that came with no tips. I'm done letting this place inconvenience me at an hourly rate. I hope they burn down

While most Ace Hardware stores are similar, they are independently owned and each has their local flavor. While stopping here to have a window screen replaced (Tom is the best and replaces in real time or by the next day) I found so many other items I didn't know I needed! Haha. In the garden section I found whimsical yard art and handmade aprons, one for me with bright cherry sunflowers; and a classy black and white version for a friend. Never to early to start Christmas shopping! The store has supplies for electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. Also small kitchen appliances, gadgets and cookware. Large selection of outdoor grills and BBQs. Garden supplies, soil, perennials and annuals. Shoveld, brooms, shears and other garden tools. They even have a Hallmark section with gifts and go cards. Plus locally made cards with the most gorgeous photographs of birds, wildlife, flowers and scenery from the Gorge. Yep, had to buy a few! While I have shopped at many Ace Hardware stores and have a loyalty number, for some reason it wasn't showing up. Even though the store was busy, the cashier helped me get it resolved. Came in to get a screen repaired, left with gifts & greeting cards, a shovel, broom, apron, flashlight and yes, the newly repairEd window screen!
