Their selection of vibrant mums and huge, ornamental kale caught my attention. Then as I wandered through the rows of plants, I discovered gorgeous indoor plants including my favorite, bromeliads. Located right on East 2nd, Discount Plus is a liquidation store that sells close out items,…read morereturned items from other chains, food products close to expiration, and items whose packaging is slightly damaged but the product is just fine. Clothing is brand new, never worn, and ranges from t-shirts to jackets to sweatpants to sweaters and accessories. You never know what you will find as product is always moving. Same with food items. Pasta, cookies, cereal, canned veggies and fruit, candy, bread, coffee, seasonings, soda, bottle water, lots of snacks and more. They are close to expiration but most have a shelf life far past that date. Items are arranged neatly and easy to see and find. Lots of cleaning products, too. Many are the Awesome brand found at the Dollar stores but they also have the main brands like Clorox, Windex, Snuggle, etc. What brought me in was the rakes, shovels and yard tools. They had a large assortment and at much better prices than big box or local chains. Even some planters in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors for far less money than elsewhere. Like $5-10. You need to wander around as the store has aisles going both vertical and horizontal and pathways that lead to areas which I guess could be considered a "department" like the garden supplies. Those working here are always unpacking items, arranging product and keeping the store organized and clean. They are super friendly and helpful, too.

Two ladies run the store, one also teaching quilting and the other teaches basic sewing. So very helpful in figuring out my instructions for my next class and how to purchase the proper amount of fabric. I will return for more fabric and to take some of the basic sewing instruction for special projects. Btw, for a small shop, they are very well equipped with a very nice and broad variety of products besides the fabrics. Two very specialized seamstresses! Be sure to check their hours before you head out.

Absolutely incredible, enchanting nursery! OMG, I am in love! They have all the norms - annuals,…read moreperennials, veggies, herbs, roses, shrubs, trees - but the variety within each is like nothing I have ever seen before. So unique! The plants are healthy and thriving. I wanted everything! Gerbera daisies are one of my favorite flowers. With their bright colors of yellow, orange, red and pink, they remind me of happy faces and I always plant them in my containers. In winter months, I buy bouquets to brighten up my space. Typically I buy the yellows and oranges, which I call sunshine colors. At Good News Gardening, they had a variety that I had never seen; the petals were much thinner and in abundance, adding so much texture and whimsy. Even though the tag said Gerbera, I had to ask one of the ladies working there if it was, indeed, a Gerbera Daisy! Next year, this is where I will buy them, no question. As I wandered around, I noticed every section had unique varietals. The dahlias were the size of a dinner plate and the colors of peach, yellow, white and pink in one flower stopped me in my tracks. Only to be outdone by the vibrant orange and white striped variety. In the herb section, options are boundless. At least a dozen types of oregano. Spicy Italian oregano? Yes, please! Dozens of types of mint (plant only in a contained area) and so many varieties of basil. More types of lettuce and tomatoes than I had ever heard of or eaten. This incredulous reaction occurred in every area that I visited. I have been gardening for 40 years and today I learned so much! Wow. Inside they have houseplants and a huge section of seeds. I'm totally into Oregon wildflowers like the delicate blue cornflower, bright orange California poppy, yellow & orange milkweed and yarrow to name a few. They had seed packets of each or mixed. Lots of seeds for veggies, too. The section was extensive! When you are inside you will be serenaded by the dozens of little birds that found their way in and are sitting on the poles or in the rafters singing their songs! Everyone here is happy, and who wouldn't be?! Everyone working there was super friendly and helpful. They genuinely love what they do and are so knowledgeable. They don't just want to sell you something, they want what you purchase to grow and thrive. Shout out to Maria who shared my love for that incredible Gerbera Daisy and showed me all the different colors it came in. Prices are a bit higher but the quality and uniqueness makes it totally worth it. Next year, I will head directly here without even stopping anywhere else. With my limited amount of space for flowers, I only want the best and unique!
