After asking my wife what she wanted for dinner, she said, "ice cream!" So I knew from past experience that I wasn't going to go to a place close to me, so I ended up finding Bruster's through Yelp. A short drive later, we came up to the nice sized building which even had a drive-through! Bruster's makes their own ice cream and they have lots of flavors, some of which are seasonal. They do it all - sundaes, shakes, mixes, ice cream cakes, splits, and more. They have the waffle cones and all the toppings and whip cream. I went with a small Butter Brickle shake. My wife had a Vanilla Hot Fudge Sundae. Smooth and creamy, with chocolate covered brickle left at the end for a bonus. The Sundae was requested with a waffle bowl and was crunchy and just the right size for one. The mix of fudge, ice cream, whip cream, and a cherry on top was excellent. The kids running the stand were friendly, gave free sample spoons if you want, and did their best to be quick. About $14 for the sundae and small milkshake. We'd definitely come back. read more

The day we went the server said the only Sugar Free was a Vanilla with hunks of chocolate pieces in it... we tried it but I don't think that chocolate was Sugar Free ... the Ice cream could have been but why make a sugar free ice cream and then throw sugar laden hunks of dark chocolate into it? I think the server was just uneducated about what was and wasn't Sugar free or sugar added ice cream. Lived in the area for over 10 years and never knew this place existed until a FB ad caught my eye. Came purposely to try their best caramel macchiato flavor and was impressed with the wide selection of flavors they have. Unique flavors, the strawberry cheesecake one was calling my name too with the regular vanilla, chocolate, etc as well. Nice sundae selections, they evidently make cakes and ice cream sandwiches too. Service was friendly. And there were a ton of people in line for their ice cream, masked and socially distanced of course or going through the drive thru for their order. And, therein lies the problem. The pleasant service person inside the tiny take out window explained that the medium cup held three scoops of ice cream. If it did, I should have asked to see the size of the scoop, because what I received was far less than three standard scoops. Rather, there were at best half scoops of the nutty and quarter scoop of the apple pie. They were in the waxed cup to look like big scoops, but the reality was far less. For the $$, there should be no skimping, and if they can't turn a profit without a thumb on the scale, perhaps they need to reevaluate their business model. The slight of hand trick just doesn't make folks want to return no matter how good the creamies are. Reading the other reviews, the price was raised several times as being an obstacle to enjoyment. For me, it wasn't the cost, but the weight that was the issue. Perhaps, those amount to the same thing. Can't say I was particularly impressed with Burster's Ice Cream, especially with the absurdly high marks of being "America's Favorite Ice Cream". The place is quite large, including a drive through, but with very awkward seating around the establishment of red benches, including one in the odd corner of the parking lot under their sign. As for flavors, they boast an array of things, but for a Sunday at 7 PM, I thought it was kind of weird that they didn't have something as basic as frozen vanilla yogurt. They also didn't have their highly advertised salted caramel. Ok, so my husband ordered his hot fudge sundae, which was two small scoops, with very little hot fudge and way too much whip cream, for an astonishing $5! My neice ordered a small blast with reeses pieces, which came out like a milkshake, completed melted while we were still in the parking lot, also $5.79. Overall, the point is was the ice cream any good. For me, it wasn't. It tasted too bland, the vanilla is usually a good judge of character for an ice cream place, and Breyer's makes a more memorable one than Brusters. So after an evening of tossing the football around and shooting some basketball, some friends and I decided to take it back to the good ol' days and walk to an ice cream shop to indulge. I had never been to Bruster's, but I heard good things and was craving a cold treat. To be honest, I don't see what the fuss is about. It's just like a dairy queen. They have what they call a "blast" which is equivalent to a dq blizzard. But they also have a selection of ice cream that had some tasty-sounding flavors. I wanted to go for a banana chocolate chip ice cream with some twix pieces "blasted" in. Unfortunately, they don't do that. The blasts are only for chocolate and vanilla soft serve. Maybe there's some explanation as to why they can't toss some twix into a blender with hand-dipped ice cream, but I'm sure it's lame. So I was left with the choice of banana chocolate chip ice cream or a twix blast. I chose the latter. Poor choice. Their soft serve kind of tastes like chalk. Actually it's more like that milk they serve in Philadelphia public school cafeterias. You know, the kind that comes in a juice box and doesn't have to be refrigerated? Gross.
