Bruster's Real Ice Cream is a favorite of my wife's and mine for ice cream and other desserts in Roanoke, VA. For the people out there that like places such as Cold Stone Creamery, Bruster's is even better in my opinion. The staff is usually friendly and helpful in helping customers make a decision. They will let you sample any flavor if you want to try one. As for the ice cream, it is smooth, rich, and delicious and comes in a variety of unique flavors. They have all the staples including chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, but the rotating-unique flavors are where the real fun is. I am a fan of the chocolate mudslide and the cappuccino and my wife likes anything loaded with chocolate and peanut butter. Most of the time, I order a milkshake, but sometimes there is nothing like the hot and cold combination of cinnamon-vanilla ice cream on an apple dumpling. It is important to note that Bruster's is an outdoor counter-service ice cream shop and the lines can get long during peak season, but the wait is worth it. There is some limited seating to the side of the building featuring red benches and umbrellaed tables. All of these features make this place an ideal summertime stop. Ice Cream is my favorite dessert, and when I was told about Bruster's Ice Cream, I definitely had to go try them out. I first viewed the app and signed up to receive notifications of when my favorite flavors were available, and to receive points every time I ordered from Bruster's. What a wonderful operation they had there I thought to myself. But now I had to go see the place and try out the ice cream itself to see if it deserved all the recognition it was getting. I arrived at the building and was impressed that there was no indoor seating for the place. The great variety of ice creams occupied the inside of the building. There were many glass windows where you could see inside and the menu was on big signed attached to the windows. There was an ordering and pay window on one side of the building and a pick-up window on the other side of the building. On this side there were also some benches where one could sit on a warm day to eat their ice cream. As we approached the ordering window, we were greeted by a gentleman who had on a very bright red t-shirt and a red crab hat. He took our order and charged us which by the way the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the ice cream. We both ordered two scoops of Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream inside a Waffle nest inside a bowl. The same person who took our order, Ryan, went and served our ice creams and brought them to the pick-up window. All this leading up to the first taste and wow was this ice cream flavorful and creamy! I savored every bit of it and highly recommend this place to all you ice cream lovers like myself. I've been coming to Brewster since it was opened. I lived in the neighborhood up the hill for 20 years. Never in my life have I gotten a cake cone or a waffle cone with nothing in the cone just a regular scoop on top you might as well just put it in a bowl. No kids working the stand even had the balls to ask for a tip when they don't even put enough ice cream in the cone for it to matter. I won't be coming back here again and I suggest you avoid it as well, whoever reads this. read more

Bruster's ice cream is a great spot for ice cream. It's a good place for family to go get ice cream after a day out or after dinner. It's like those cute little ice cream shops that people gather around during the summer in movies. The staff is very patient and friendly and offer samples if you're stuck between flavors. We really like their cotton candy and that's usually our go to. They have rotating flavors so once something is gone, it's usually gone. read more

My family stopped here a few times last year for their amazing ice cream. Each time we were greeted nicely with pleasant young people. The ice cream was always fresh and the correct texture. Due yo the virus we had not stopped in at all this year until Thursday of this week. As before we were greeted and waited on promptly and pleasantly. Their ice cream is simply the best I have ever had. My hubby eats sugar free and swears it is better than any brand available. My go to flavor is Chocolate Truffle Raspberry. This outdoor only Ice Cream Parlor is very pricey and not at all impressive. Tiny parking lot with a few benches to sit on while you patiently wait for your order. You must me a patient person who's willing to wait for a mediocre product. This was my second and last visit. When I arrived I was the only person there besides the two employees and the owner. Slightly rude older gentleman who kept interrupting me while I was trying to order a simple Strawberry Milkshake. Very popular ice cream stand in Roanoke that I hoped had a bigger selection of flavors than it actually has. Tried the chocolate raspberry truffle and it wasn't anything to write home about. It was more like chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips and raspberry jam. They also have sundaes, cakes, shakes, sorbet and yoghurt. There's no indoor seating so plan on take out only. The ice cream is great but... The portions are the smallest out of any ice cream place I've been to. I don't remember it being this bad a few years ago but I guess they've gotten cheap. Their version of a scoop is much smaller than most other places that have the same quality ice cream. I stopped going because of this and won't be back unless they improve their portions. read more

This is one of those ice cream stands that other stands strive to be like. From outside you can see the work area is very clean and the smell that wafts out of the ordering window elicits instant salivation. The workers can be seen feverishly cranking out waffle cones which don't seem to have much of a chance to sit around prior to getting filled with one of the many possible flavors of ice cream. We tried the Mint Chocolate, Salted Carmel Almond, Hot Fudge Sundae and a Cookie Dough Blast. They were all amazing and our Hot Fudge Sunday came with plenty of Hot fudge. From now on when I do want ice-cream, Brusters will be the place!
