The table had delicious bowls of Maryland crab soup, the service had been unpretentious and friendly, and the overall vibe was refreshingly relaxed. It was very busy lunch hour and not a single person complained about the line. They all knew warm, ample food portions were coming and they would be followed by a lovely cup of ice cream. The inside was adorable, highly welcoming to all, and delightfully kitschy. The entire place is situated on a large farm--you are literally steps away from the crops that made their way to your table. This is a great stop if you are heading into Perryville but want to eat first.

We opted for the regular-sized portions which were very generous, butter pecan for her and cashew caramel for me. The respective nuts had the perfect texture within the ice cream, soft but with a little crunch. There was plenty of seating throughout the store and right outside the doors. Many farm-themed tchotchkes were all over the space, too, which were all lovely. Staff was friendly and making sure the space looked its best. Bought milk from their cooler and a half-pound of their Aunt Josie's butter as we left (they brought the butter out from the back) and can't wait to try it! If it's half as good as that ice cream, we'll be more than satisfied. Looking forward to a return visit to sample some of their hot foods, too!

Last summer, we tried a few of the other places that were mentioned in various You Tube videos. We loved the crab cakes in all of them, and now we have to include Box Hill Pizzeria. Because we're in a pizzeria, we have to get a pizza. It was fine overall, despite not having spinach as a topping. To conclude, we haven't been here in years so it was great to revisit. We also hope to return again on another future visit to Harford County.

For years, Box Hill has been my go-to spot, and I always look forward to a great meal here. In the…read morepast, the calamari was lightly battered and crisp, and the cheesesteak was a perfect, cohesive blend of steak and melted cheese on a nicely toasted, crispy roll. And good lord--their salad is easily one of the best in Maryland! Unfortunately, my recent visit felt like a rare off night. The calamari came out heavily battered, over-fried, and quite chewy. The cheesesteak also missed the mark--it was just chopped steak and onions with a single slice of cheese melted on top, served in a tough, chewy roll rather than a crisp one. The saving grace was the salad, which hasn't changed a bit. The wedge of feta, olives, pepperoncini, fresh onion, and divine dressing were absolutely delicious (honestly, that dressing was so good I almost wished I had poured it over the calamari and sandwich!). Box Hill is a place I usually rely on for a phenomenal meal, so I'm holding out hope this was just a temporary hiccup. I'll definitely be back to give them another shot.
