We were warmly welcomed, along with our pup, and decided to do a tasting. For just $5, we got five 1-ounce pours of our choice. They have a nice selection of wines, a comfortable tasting room, and a super-friendly host. Of course, tasting led to shopping, and three bottles of wine came home with us. The wines were very reasonably priced. A fun, welcoming little winery that was well worth the stop.

The eggs were cooked perfectly but the avocado was just spread on a thick sourdough roll cut in half. It was way too thick and needed toasted. It had 3 cherry tomatoes cut in half. It just needed more seasoning and maybe some micro greens or something added. And again, $18 for just avocado toast is just too expensive. However, we were very impressed the chef came out to ask us about our meal and asked for feedback. I provided feedback on the SMAVO and she was super receptive. Very nice and professional. The cash bar was the most reasonable one I have ever used. Glenlivet was $5.50 and I am used to paying more like $10 for this premium single malt. Saturday night was dinner. Menu was specified as Beef Medallions, Abbey salad with blue cheese crumbles and chocolate lasagna. I liked that there was none of the chicken, beef, fish or vegetarian crap. I presume that if someone needed vegetarian that they could call in or just get by, but I've seen too many places where the service gets held up trying to get the right plate to the right person. This system works. Likewise, the salad came already dressed with blue cheese crumbles on the table for those of us who liked to augment the excellent flavor with bursts of cheese. There was no pasta in the desert, it was good and had a clever name. Sunday morning brunch was buffet style with an omelet station. I had an excellent omelet, the hash browns and bacon were offered from warming trays and seemed fresh. I was planning on the omelet and avoided the rest. One of the things I liked is that the price of $120 per couple was all-inclusive, I didn't have to figure out what I was going to attend when I made my reservation. The only quibble I had was the name tags could have used a larger font and a much bolder largest font for first names. My…read morehusband and I have visited The Royal Gorge Bridge previously and thought that was an incredible experience but the train ride topped it, believe it or not! The scenery was worth every penny and worth the drive out to Canon City. I've been to some beautiful places in my life like Germany, The Netherlands, Alaska, Austria and seen some breathtaking views but I would put this train ride in the top 10 experiences in my life. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining, we had great seats on the train but the sights were the winners. Life is short. Take the train ride.

She was warm, patient, and extremely helpful in making the modifications we needed. From that first interaction, we felt like we were in good hands. When we arrived, Rainey was thoughtful and accommodating, especially since my wife and I were traveling with her parents, who needed a little extra support and assistance. Her kindness was greatly appreciated. Then we met Susan in the gift shop...an absolute gem. We immediately connected when I mentioned that my late mother's name was also Susan. I asked if she knew the meaning of her name, and she replied, "Lily." That stopped me in my tracks because the book I'm writing about my mother is titled The Lily of the Valley. I promised Susan that when it's finished, I'll send her a copy. In fact, our conversation inspired me to sit down and write while we waited to board the dome train. Once aboard, Thomas, our server, was awesome. He was knowledgeable, informative, personable, and made us feel less like customers and more like family. His service added so much to an already memorable ride. The scenery is spectacular, but what really made this experience special were the people. Sharon, Rainey, Susan, and Thomas each contributed something memorable to our day. A truly wonderful experience and one we highly recommend. It was absolutely worth the investment...and gave us memories we'll carry home to California with us. Truly a happy ending and we' come again. LOL!
