Appetizers consisted of steamed muscles, fried calamari and bacon wrapped dates. There was also a platter with fresh fruits and mellon slices, cheeses and crackers. All so good. They served a wonderful buffet. This is the first time I can remember wanting to try everything just based on the looks. So I piled a plate high with a Cesar salad with the perfect amount of dressing, a loaded rigatoni pasta salad, broiled potatoes, sliced roast beef with a dark thick au jus and horseradish sauce, a excellent rollatini, vegetables and assortment of bread. Culinary Classics Catering hit one out of the park by my standards. Don't use anyone else for your next catered affair.

I pay cash for everything upfront so who ever picks up the order only needs the receipt. First time they were right on the mark. The food was excellent, and trays were ready at the time promised. Second time 2 sides were missing and I needed to wait for them to make the sides about 45 minutes. Guests were arriving at my house and I was waiting for food. But these things do happen unfortunately. However, the third time there was no excuse. Christmas Eve. Ordered the food and paid for it 2 weeks before. Customers were lined up in the parking of the building they were renting and down the block. It seems as though he had high school kids bringing the orders out who didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. My pick up was 3 o'clock. They didn't call my name for 2 hours after continually being promised that I am next. Finally my order was ready. I squeezed through the crowd to place my order in the car to go home. After arriving home with my guests arriving, I realized this time I was again missing 2 items from my order. So I returned to tell them and I was informed they must have given it away. And my response was to make up my 3 orders. Now the crowd outside was growing and people's orders were being given to the wrong people. Mine was finally ready after many inquiries. Got home by 6:45. Since then, the owner closed up shop and moved elsewhere, and then again moved and so on. It's a shame as the food from this caterer was really very good and he would have had a great catering business in town. But he blew it big time. My advice is to stay away from this caterer no matter his promises or price, whatever town he has landed in now. Seems as though he is running from something.............

I have tried a lot of catering food consisting of under-seasoned chicken and overcooked salmon, but this was anything but. All the proteins we chose (grilled chicken, seared salmon, grilled shrimp, and crispy tofu) were seasoned well and not overcooked. There were so many veggie sides. My favorites were avocado, glazed walnuts, charred cauliflower, blistered tomatoes, fire-roasted garlic broccoli, and roasted beets. Everyone got to compose their own protein + grain + veggie plate. I joked to the other guests that I felt like this was Thanksgiving, but with better healthier options. This was the first "Thanksgiving" that I did not get food coma after a filling meal.

During the planning process we had a number of variables to consider, including what furniture our venue would provide and what rentals we would require, what vegetarian options could be provided, and most importantly, as our reception was at the synagogue, how to keep the menu within kosher/kosher-style guidelines. Rachel was very helpful in designing a menu of fish and dairy options, as well as enough variety to satisfy our guests. We had also run into an issue in that the synagogue required all disposables be compostable, and Rachel helped us solve that problem as well. There were various discussions about how we could save money and we were never made to feel awkward about asking these questions. The staff that served our event were friendly and efficient, and the captain, Jonathan, had a great sense of humor that made the service feel very warm and hospitable for all our guests.

I found them to be competitively priced with what research I did, but most important was that their barbecue was of the proper low-and-slow smoker variety. We went with the luau package, and received many compliments from our guests on everything from presentation to quality of food (beyond the awesome spectacle of the smoked pig--apple in mouth, natch--there was much love for the lobster mac, maduros, and shrimp). Sadly, the sweet and sour grilled chicken was completely overshadowed by the larger ticket entree items, leaving me stuck with a week's worth of awesome leftovers.
