Bruno's website says "authentic Italian menu that is straight out of southern Italy". So I went for a classic carbonara. While what was served tasted fine, it was not carbonara, it was pasta with cream. Also, the bread served with the antipasto was mediocre. If you are looking for an Americanized Italian, you'll like it. If you want authentic, go somewhere else. read more

Bruno's never disappoints. I had a reservation the night before. We arrived at 6pm for our reservation and were greeted and seated right away. We sat in their secondary room. They brought over the olives, bread, cheese, and two bruschetta. We ordered two drinks consisting of one margarita which was very tasty and a kettle one and sprite. We ordered the mozzarella carrozza and capellini balls. Both were served table side and amazing. We ordered pasta capris and a chicken parmigiana. Two thin chicken cutlets. It had the right amount of sauce and cheese served with rigatoni pasta. Amazing! The pasta was a special request which the waiter had no problem with. The other gentleman who was working on table was very nice and very helpful. We finished up with a double espresso and a cappuccino with pistachio tartufo. The price was right and everything was wonderful. The bathroom is clean. I was able to get street parking, however they do have a private lot for valet. The staff is always nice and chatty. Earlier this week, we wanted to celebrate my coworkers birthday and picked a nice restaurant close by! We were greeted immediately upon entrance and sat quickly. The staff were very informative and nice! We saw and heard the specials before placing our order. It took a little longer than anticipated, but everyone's order was correct! As far as taste, it was decent. The food needed a little something. Even the sauce was a little bland. After the ceiling fell in and we felt water droplets falling on our food and table we had enough. The food is great- attended a 90th birthday celebration but my friend was taken to the cleaners with an enormous bill. Both sad and ridiculous! The staff handed us a bill for our meal in the midst of having a moldy ceiling cave in. You can't make this up! Bruno's food is always consistently great. We ordered the salmon, shrimp Parmesan, tomahawk steak, and veal Milanese, and everyone loved their food. We came on a busy holiday, and our waiter was attentive, friendly, and gave great suggestions on what to order. We love how Bruno's shows you the meats, fish, and desserts so you know what you're getting before you order. Make sure to make reservations in advance, as they fill up quickly. Start with the greetings. The owners are always represented and will make it feel like YOU are the owner as they welcome you in. The wait staff all have wonderful attitudes, and will help with recommendations if you tell them what you have a hankering for. The bartender makes excellent cosmopolitans (according to my bride). The food from pizza as an appetizer or for the kids, to mains included amazing steaks and chops (stuffed veil chop etc), are all amazing. We choose to do family sharable plates but the standard is individual plates that are more than ample. Finally, even though this is a pretty upscale Italian ristorante you can still get down to earth meal choices. Love these hosts! read more

This is a not so hidden gem in Howard Beach... Stopped by and had lunch. It was awesome, I had the steak sandwich and my bride and the chicken parm. Both were excellent! I went to this place for my birthday with a small group of family. I was planning on getting the tomahawk steak, but then they came to the table with the Seafood special. They showed us a huge lobster tail. There was a lobster tail special. I am a big boy and I love my Seafood. So instead of doing Tomahawk, I decided to go with the lobster special. Well, it turns out the lobster special comes with only half of the lobster tail. And I'm sorry to say it was a complete joke because the lobster tail was the size of two shrimp combined. I was so disappointed and I told the waiter. You would have thought good customer service the owner or manager would've come over. But no one ever did. The lobster special was $75. We chose Bruno's as our last meal on our trip to NY. We shared a tomahawk ribeye and a homemade pasta with tomatoes, eggplant and ricotta (off menu). TBH the ribeye was just okay and for 150.00 MP we were really expecting a melt in your mouth, transcendent piece of steak. The potato croquettes and fried onions and zuchini were nice. The pasta was also in the okay category, nothing that I'll be mentioning in my tales of our first trip to NY. If I had to do it again we would have gotten 2 pasta dishes and a calamari because the calamari looked amazing on our neighbors tables. Service started out strong our server was super attentive but there were a couple of misses like getting a sweetened ice tea when we ordered unsweetened and then having to ask 15 min later where the replacement ice tea was. And having to ask for the parmesean to top off the pasta 5 min after the server offered it. By the time it came the pasta was cold. Tip for future diners - It's 11.00 for a bottle of flat water that retails for 2.25 a bottle. They don't mention the charge when they offer the water. Your best bet is to order an ice tea for 4 bucks and be persistent about getting it refilled. read more

This place is just amazing! Food was so delicious and flavorful, probably one of the best Italian around. Ambiance was light and quiet for a nice night out. Service was great. Food came out quickly, even though they had a full house. I ordered the fried calamari which was so tender, the marina sauce complimented the calamari very well. The chicken piccata was perfectly cooked, it was served with green beans and potato croquet. The grilled red snapper was fresh, and seasoned so well.. They had 4 choices of dessert to choice from, everything looked so good. The tiramisu was everything along with the expresso to finish dinner. Brunos's is definitely worth trying. ( just saying )...... The wait staff is definitely amazing, friendly. They actually came and served us when our appetizers came. The grilled octopus YUM ( the best ) I've ever heard. Soft, tender, the mussels was in a white sauce wished that came with a straw. When our entrees came the portions are shareable but you can also eat it by yourself. The lamb chops! Tender, steak tender! The pasta in clams was perfection. The only thing they didn't have was cannoli's which I think for an Italian restaurant it should be a must. I have a lot of good things to say about this place and one negative. First of the staff was phenomenal. Friendly & respectful. Two thumbs all the way up. The food came in a timely matter & was SO good. The portion size on the apps were perfect & the main course was huge. The food was delicious. My only grief was the final bill. Now by no means am I cheap or don't want to spend money, but I've eaten at City Island and have had way more food for way less money. We went here to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary and I'm glad we did. I just don't know if we will be going back anytime soon. read more

Fabulous experience. Our flight was delayed so we missed our connecting flight and had to stay at the JFK Marriott. I looked for the best restaurant for dinner in the area and found Bruno's. It was really a great experience. We had so much fun sitting at the bar that we stayed there and had our dinner. We got to watch the fun-loving and eclectic clientele. We talked for a long time with one of the managers (or perhaps owner/s?). I forgot his name now, but he was so friendly. Sal is the bartender and he was really friendly too. I gave them fingerpuppets. After a very disheartening experience at the airport, this place really improved our night. The Cosmo I had was great. The garlic bread was amazing. I came with a bigger group of people, and we basically ordered half the menu. The appetizers were decent, fried zucchini,clams, fries, calamari... nothing stood out in terms of flavor or portion size. Then I had the veal parmigiana, texturally was alright. Service was very fast as well. My girlfriend and I came here and liked the food. I ended up ordering the Rigatoni Pomodoro while she had the Shrimp Francese. Her Shrimp Francese was cooked nicely while my Rigatoni was cooked perfectly al dente. The red sauce that my rigatoni came with was very good as well.
