My wife and I are both independent contractors - Sign Language Interpreters - and that alone kept several other Mortgage Lending Specialists from even returning our initial calls. We own a vacation rental home in Hawai'i, own a small, home-based travel agency, and also own a cabin that we were paying off on a contract for deed. On top of that, we didn't work much last year because we had a newborn in the house and so did not have much income to show on our taxes. We had called several well-known mortgage brokers and banks throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul and although our credit scores were both in the 780's, no one would take a chance with us! Even our Credit Unions (whom we had been with for several years) wouldn't help us find and secure a mortgage loan! We had already sold our home in Minneapolis and had our offer accepted on our dream home in Maple Grove! After a couple of weeks, it looked like it wasn't going to happen for us and sadly, we were were almost ready to give up.
