I phoned after 1.5 weeks, as he suggested, and after looking around a good while, with me on the phone giving a description, he found them. He said he "hadn't got to them yet", but would work on them in the next day or two. I phoned 3 more times over the next 1.5 weeks and each time he said he was "working on them now". After three weeks I understood the situation and went to collect them. They were untouched. I think he loves to potter around in his shoe den but you're not likely to get your shoes fixed!
