The Wilson Academy

The Wilson Academy

We searched for positive or negative reviews prior to enrolling but didn't find anything to give us…read moreguidance. We hope this will help someone. The Wilson Academy is actually located at 2360 Covington Hwy Sw Conyers, GA they used to be located in Lithonia. Our 1st impression of the school for our 2 children was largely positive all because we meet with the wonderful Mrs. Smith (a phenomenal k-3 grade teacher) in our 1st in-person meeting. She was everything we could ask for an more in a elementary school teacher. The school seemed to be perfect and we couldn't understand why it wasn't packed with more students and a abundance of teachers/staff. We where given the speech about the owner/principal Mr. Byron and the success that he had with his own daughter that graduated at the age of 14 and attended Spellman College. After enrolling in the 2025/26 school year we where 3 months in and found out why the school wasn't talked about or had an overwhelming support from the community. It was a normal drop off morning as we were dropping off our kids to school when they were meet by a security officer that had a clip board which was of children names that hadn't paid by the due date of the 1st......so 3 days later kids were being turned away at the door that came dressed and ready for school but was being denied an education and sent back home. It was like the kids were going into a nightclub and they where being denied entry because they were on this list. You really had to be there to see this awful site. The owner wasn't there and security loudly told us that we needed to call him to get clarification. We were instructed to pull over and park and call, we called and called with our kids patiently waiting for a call back for 30 min, we finally spoke with him and told him we had planned to pay on the following day and his response was that's fine the kids can miss 1 day and it was this act of insensitivity that he portrayed that gave a perception that he was not about the kids but about the money. He was basically saying that because you were 3 days late your child can no longer be educated by his school until full payment was done. We did make the payment the same day but the damage had been done. We scrambled to get the funds and sent it by Zelle and were extremely inconvenience. According to the information that is given out when enrolling it states that after 30 days you child maybe denied entry for late and unpaid accounts. This was not our case here. We also initially asked for payments to be on a certain day but was told that we had to pay on the 1st by way of automatic debit site. If we had gotten a phone call of this prior to bringing the kids to school it would have been better than this scenario which seemed inhumane, and please understand that many kids where turned away for the same reasons (I pray their families where able to get payments in). Based off the amount we where paying and how we where treated that day we made our decision to leave. Yes there where other issues that lead up to this that we saw in the school but we overlooked to try and work with a black owner. If the head of an organization believes this is ok then we have to believe that this operation of belief sets up a horrible system that we don't want to be apart of.

At first I was hesitant on writing this review but if I can save another child from going through…read morewhat my 5th grade son went through at this school, its worth writing about. If i could give this school a negative 5 stars I surely would. On the first day of registration the woman in the office was rude and nonchalant. She was bothered by me asking questions, especially about me being reluctant to sign a permission slip for RANDOM visits to a "science center" that we wont be notified of in advanced. I don't think she realize she is the first representation of the school and that should have been a RED FLAG. But ok...now to the teachers. My son's homeroom teacher MR. BARNER was NEVER in control of his classroom. There was a couple incidents where he was CURSING AT THE CHILDREN. I don't curse at my son and IT IS NOT OK FOR HIS TEACHER TO CURSE AT THEM EITHER...My son was ATTACKED on his first day of school and MR BARNER NEVER NOTIFIED ME!!! There has been several students bullying my child . There was an incident were my child was JUMPED BY 2 KIDS. The kid was putting food in his chair...Each time I've gone up only because my son had to come home and tell me. I would have to come in and fill out an incident report where the Principal and/assistant principal "investigates" the reports. There "investigation" is at times more of a coercion for stories to be recanted to make light of a BULLYING INCIDENT. I've had several conversations with PRINCIPAL BURT in person and on the phone about these BULLYING PROBLEMS and I was told "back in his day it was called joneing" to once again make light of the BULLYING PROBLEM withing the school. Back in his day CHILDREN were not committing SUICIDE at AN ALARMING RATE either. Times have clearly changed. My father has spoken to him and was able to tell immediately he DOES NOT CARE. A friend of mine came in for a meeting with me and said the exact same thing.I wish I could rewind and not send my son there. He is in counseling now because of the anxiety and PTSD from the MULTIPLE BULLYING INCIDENTS. Needless to say I withdrew my son from the school. He was NOT SAFE, nor was he able to get PROPER classroom instruction so he could have a fair chance to excel. FARINGTON is basically a free but dangerous babysitter for 8 hrs. You've been warned.

If you are looking for a place that is family oriented, structured, and promotes academic and…read moresocial development for your child, this is the place! I can't say enough great things about the experience my son had at A Unique Learning Academy. He began at age three and continued through first grade. The foundation he received has prepared him well! The administrative staff (Mr. & Mrs. Hunt) have been nothing short of amazing! They ensure that the children are loved, respected, fed well and provided the best opportunities to succeed. The teachers are also amazing and provide the structure, rigor and reinforcement critical to student success. A Unique Learning Academy has provided a foundation for my son that will last a lifetime! The owners Mr. and Mrs. Hunt love what they do. Mr. Hunt is the cook ( good hot meals at breakfast and lunch with extra incentives for academic excellence.) Mrs. Hunt is the Director, business driven, a teacher, mother and a friend. The school only goes to 1st grade and when your child graduates they are very well prepared for 2nd grade. My son is in the 99th percentile 3rd grade 6 month level in Reading, Language Arts and Math according to the ITBS test results, My daughter was 3rd/4th grade when she graduated from AULA as well. This truly is an unique place, phonics, counting, reading comprehension, computer, karate, weekly spelling test ( not the baby words either). Learning begins at 1 years old. The children enunciate their words and are challenged to be critical thinkers. The teachers care, know the children and parents by name, The rates are reasonable in relation to the results you will see in your babies. I definitely recommend this school to all parents with babies, toddlers and young ones. This is the right path to achieve the strong foundation for your children.

I see it in my kids every day. (ok, almost every day. They're still humans! :)) But they really do learn in a much more varied 'landscape' of people, of cultures, family structures and points of view and they are better for it. Plus they are getting all the tools for great conflict management skills, a key predictor of happiness. And that's the icing on the cake of solid academics. My kids are learning, and most importantly, they are happy and confident, they feel loved and like they "belong" at their school. (They beg me to stay at aftercare to play with their friends!)

However, as a psychologist, I also knew that I wanted a school that had a focus on social-emotional development. I feel so lucky to have found the Friends School for my son. They sincerely practice what they preach. My son has ADHD, and the teachers were exceptional in identifying his needs, using targeted strategies to assist him, and communicating with me about ways to support him. Despite his challenges, they never lost sight of his unique strengths. Now that he is in first grade, he is thriving. And, the beauty of it is, because it's a small school, his current teachers already have some familiarity with him and have been able to give me great feedback about his improvement. The focus on ensuring that kids are well-rounded citizens is also a real asset for FSA. My son is courteous, kind, and socially aware. He talks about helping the homeless, eating healthy foods, and caring for the environment. He gets adequate exercise and sunlight during the school day (which research shows is linked to greater energy and concentration). He is learning conflict management skills, mindfulness, empathy, and how to be a good member of a team. As someone who works with business leaders, I know that these lessons will be invaluable in his life. I once told the headmaster that he radiates warmth. His demeanor is so kind, upbeat, and positive - he never looks like he's going through the motions. I believe that he sets a great tone for the rest of the school. I can't rave enough about FSA. I'm so lucky that we found it!

As a parent, I deeply regret enrolling my children at Miller Grove Middle School. My experience…read morewith this school has been extremely disappointing and concerning. My son came home from school with an ear piercing and tattoos that were reportedly done by other students while Inside a classroon. I was later informed by administration Mrs.Thornton that one of the tattoos did occur at school. As a parent, I cannot understand how something involving tattoo equipment could happen inside a school environment without staff noticing or intervening. What concerns me even more are the allegations my son shared regarding inappropriate behavior from a teacher Mr. Johnson (Math teacher) in the classroom. According to my son, inappropriate sexual comments and questions were being directed toward students, including discussions about "body counts" and other topics that are completely unacceptable for middle school children. He also described inappropriate sound effects and conversations taking place during class time. This environment does not feel safe, professional, or appropriate for students who are supposed to be learning and developing in a positive setting. I understand every school has challenges, but parents deserve transparency, supervision, and professionalism from both staff and administration. I hope the district takes these concerns seriously and that future parents ask questions before enrolling their children here.
