I think in many states this would be a premier spot for jazz, but especially in South Florida. We are short on jazz options, but not if you can make it to Pompano. It's every 2nd Thursday of the month. The fella who puts it to gether is a mainstay. He's a increible on guitar. the drums is a regular as well, very good. And they and different line ups dependign on the month and who they have that set. We have heard many different mixes. This last week when we caught the show, there was a new guy that was great on bass. There was also a fella who played sax, and really had some nice solos on clarinet. I should add before and after the show you can check out the galleries and art that's displayed there. Upstairs there are artists in residence that you can watch them at their craft as well. It's a great spot to hear music and art, all in one.

The center itself allows ample light to flow through and the lobby space plenty of space to socialize pre- and post-show. The auditorium space was extremely comfortable, had plenty of room to move within the rows, and felt connected with the performance I saw (well done to the New Canon Chamber Collective for the Remember the Times show), with the sound and lighting adding to the experience. The staff deserves commendations (and raises), certainly. In summary, if you're attending a performance here, you're in for splendid time!

I stopped by this Fort Lauderdale Branch library on Sunrise to find out about obtaining some…read moretechnical documents through the Interlibrary Services. I found the librarians exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable; most willing to help. But, looking around the library, though it's really spacious and very nicely done, I could see that the libraries of today are not the libraries of my youthful era back 50's and 60's. Yes, there are still some books but when looking a few of them over, generally appeared as unread. More dramatic to my eye was that the library, which was once intended for the purposes of books now contains rack and shelf upon shelf of DVD's, CD's and videos, primarily of an entertainment nature, giving an overall resemblance more akin to that of an adult video porn shop than what one would think of as being a library. Then, of course, there are the rows of computers as one might find in an Internet café. Now I know I'm getting to be somewhat of an old stuck in the mud of life curmudgeon, but though I can see the absolute need for computers and Internet access, I have a difficult time with entertainment DVD movies and the like. Indeed things and times have changed, in fact seemingly have changed so much that I got one of the strangest of criticisms I've ever had leveled at me. While there I read a book, a small one, maybe only around a hundred fifty pages or so. When I finished reading it, a young lady asked me "You read that entire book, didn't you?" I told her that I had and she responded by saying "You read that book way to fast." Hmmm? I'm still puzzling over what she meant by that.

Dedicated in 2000, it was the first library built with funds from the $139 million library bond issue approved by Broward County voters in 1999. This 78,000-square-foot, two-story library is a joint-use facility of the Broward County Library System and Pembroke Pines. It's open to the public while also serving as the school library for charter high school students. Broward College students have access to a computer lab on the first floor. The library's collection includes over 100,000 lending items for children and adults in multiple languages, including books and multimedia. Amenities include a teen activity room, children's storytime room, 300-seat auditorium, gift shop, classrooms, quiet study rooms, conference rooms, tutoring rooms, and a computer lab. Programs for all ages are offered regularly--details are available at the front desk or on the library's website. On my visit, there was a holiday model train exhibit. More recently they had a St. Patrick's Day photo op on the second floor and an Easter Peeps diorama contest. Broward County truly excels at libraries, and Southwest Regional is no exception. The space is large, clean, modern, and welcoming. The lobby floor features a terrazzo design that gives the illusion of the Everglades, while the ceiling shows the sky from an alligator's underwater perspective--a really fun touch. Whether you're studying, working remotely, or just browsing, there's plenty of room to spread out. Quiet areas are genuinely quiet, and community spaces feel relaxed and inviting. If you haven't visited a library in a while, Southwest Regional might surprise you with how much it can enrich your day.

The layout of each corner of the library really caters to each group, with the entire upstairs being nice and quiet for adults. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. We had a ball at the ArtLit festival today - West African drums & dancing, green screen photo shoot, flower painting, giant alligator characters, Everglades improv show, food trucks, small business tents. All the volunteers were so friendly, found out about so many community, and enjoyed all the activities and booths. Can't wait for next year when baby is older and can enjoy even more. The miniature railroad display put on a couple weeks ago, was so impressive. Highly recommend keeping a pulse on all their events.

I like all the events they have like book reviews , quilting , story time for kids , senior exercise and all is free. I went to get movies for the week and to listen to some new music . This library is clean , employees are helpful and parking is easy. Also if senior need community hours for high school this is the place.

The library was built to service the needs of the northwest area of Broward County. This library and the Southwest Regional Library in Pembroke Pines were built from a 139.9 million dollar bond approved in March of 19999. This library not only services Coral Springs residents but those who live in Margate, Tamarac, and Sunrise as well. The two-story Northwest Regional Library includes a 300-seat auditorium, computer technology room with over 100 computers, a teen activity room, a storytelling room in the children's section, tutoring rooms, small study rooms and conference rooms in the adult section. The children's and adults' sections are on two different floors. Featured outside the library is a 9/11 Memorial and a Martin Luther King, Jr monument. I love the Broward County Library system because there is so much to explore. The library collection includes best sellers, adult fiction, DVD's, audiobooks and CD's. It also has digital devices available for loan including Veterans HotSpots and children's Playaway LaunchPads. Its collection includes International language materials in Spanish, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Hebrew and Russian. The programs for children, teens, and adults are excellent here. The people that work here are always friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to the new books, old books and where to find virtually any of the books on the racks! This library is always so clean and they always have a nice amount of copies of new releases so I don't need to be put on a waitlist to check the book out. I love that the library is two floors and the second floor is always so nice and quiet. The bathrooms here on both floors are always very clean as well and the tables are nicely spaced out in the library so I don't feel like I am ever hovering over other patrons while I am here! They have a friends of the library where you can buy second hand books and the deals they have on them are wonderful. I usually end up walking out with a stack of books way too high, for less than ten dollars. The best part is the money goes directly towards the library and helping run events that are open to the general public!

Although it's a private library, it is available to the public. My friend told me about this library as her middle school son volunteered here during the summer. She said it was really nice during the summer when it was quiet and they had the library to themselves. I went during the weekday last week. In the midst of back to school college students everywhere! Lol. They have security by the main entrance and college students are asked to scan their university IDs. All other guests will be let in by the guard. You must have a Broward County Libraries card to check out books at this location. The nice thing is, you can return the books to any Broward County Library and they will ship the book directly to Alvin Sherman Library. So convenient. When you walk into the library, the circulation desk is on the left, there is a computer working lab area on the right, and if you go straight, you'll find the children's book location, there are new books located on the spinning racks next to the stairs, and there is also a hidden bestseller books room located next to the circulation desk and entrance/exit. I believe there are four floors in this library. Tons and tons of tables and rooms for study areas for the college students. My favorite part about this museum is the Chihuly display on the second floor, they fancy! Another fascinating thing about this library, are the moving bookshelves! You heard me right. They have digital buttons where you can move the actual bookshelves. It's such a smart way to save space. Brilliant. Unfortunately, they don't have any Friends of the Library books for sale at this location. But the librarian did mention they have two big annual book sales per year. You can sign up for newsletter on their website. There are also two book returns at the roundabout outside of the library in case you don't want to park and get out of your car. There is a parking garage but you have to pay for parking using the park by mobile app. I believe it was $1.61 per hour. Students park for free with their NSU parking stickers.

The wooden frame building (which is now used for meetings and storage) developed in two phases: the construction of the library in 1935 and the addition of the adjoining meeting "hall" in 1950. But everything began first as a project of the Women's Club back in 1928. They started with fundraising and collecting books. By 1934 they had 1000 books. The next steps were to organize a building committee. They got approval from the city to build in 1935. It remained open until they closed in 1978 when the local library system had developed their county wide services.
