Brougham Place Uniting Church is one of Adelaide's oldest churches. Located in North Adelaide on the corner of Brougham Place and Stanley Street, this church was first opened in 1861. The exterior of the church is very reminiscent of a couple of other significant Adelaide buildings like the Adelaide Town Hall and GPO. This could have something to do with the fact that all were designed by the same architect, Edmund Wright.
Walk inside the Brougham Place church and there is a palatable taste of history in the air. The church's very first minister was a man by the name of James Jefferis who created a fair degree of controversy in his day. He preached about a correlation between science, philosophy and traditional church teachings which was pretty radical for his time. Clearly though, this is a church that has moved with the times as evidenced by the fact they have both a male and female minister on staff who are husband and wife.
A popular venue for weddings in Adelaide, couples can choose to take advantage of the church's grand piano, pipe organ or for an extra fee can call on the services of the Brougham Place Choir. This is a beautiful Adelaide church and a visit will leave you appreciating the sense of history that has been retained within the church walls. read more
