The Wesleyan Chapel in Township Road at Marion is one of the oldest surviving Wesleyan Churches in South Australia.
This quaint little chapel is part of the Uniting Church next door and the chapel is still in use today. Back in 1862 when the chapel was built early worshippers included Henry and Ann Shearing and it was Henry who donated both the land and the bricks for this chapel. Many of those bricks still survive as evidence through the bricks in the quoins with the initials of early parisioners having been carved into them all those years ago.
Back in the 1860's it took 6 months to built the Chapel and then it underwent extensive renovations in 1988. The Wesleyan Chapel is one of the most beautiful sights in the Marion Historic Village. I particularly love the church bell set at the top of the chapel entrance. If you like old Adelaide churches this one is a must see. read more
