I've been going to this place for over 7 years now both as a player and as an on-off judge for trading card games, so I've gotten to know the store a bit more than the average customer. I've read a few of the reviews for this place and a lot of the problems come from a particular staff member treating customers poorly, and based on the descriptions of the staff member in question I believe I know the person responsible for everyone's terrible experiences. For the sake of protecting people from being harassed, I'll be referring to the staff member in question as "Blue". I don't exactly have any positive experiences with Blue, however that doesn't mean this person is an asshole every day, much like you can interact with your coworkers everyday and not have any fond interactions with them at all and not think bad about them. With that said, I do have some rather terrible experiences with them and I feel I need to share them with you so that their behavior may change and anyone reading this has fair warning for what they may encounter when shopping at Brothers Grim. My first negative experience with Blue was when I was looking to buy some packs for a new set for a trading card game that I played on a competitive level. Since it was a new set that everyone was looking forward to, it made sense to ask them if they had it in stock. When I asked Blue if they had any of that set in stock, Blue's immediate reaction was to laugh at my face for asking such a question. Now I don't know if anyone reading this thinks laughing at your customers face for asking a simple question is good customer service, but FYI, it's not. I was notably pissed off and sat down at one of the open tables. Blue then took notice of my expression and came over to me. I then thought, "Oh, they're going to apologize for their behavior? I can forgive them, I understand the set is in demand so it's not their fault for not having the product." And, well, I was only half right. Blue did notice me upset, and they did come over to me and began to apologize, but they weren't apologizing for their behavior. They apologized to me for not having the set I wanted to buy in stock. I didn't say a word after hearing Blue's half-assed apology. I have one more experience to share with you as this review is rather long and this next experience is what led me to no longer consider myself a loyal customer and never spend another dime at this place again. So a couple years back, the Digimon TCG was released in North America, and demand for this game was astronomical on release. You simply could not find the decks for this game on the shelves at your local game stores unless they were selling it for prices scalpers were pricing them online. After weeks of not finding this deck on store shelves, my friends caught wind that Brothers Grim was going to have the decks available for purchase on a specific day. Me and a buddy make the drive to go there pretty early in the day to try and get one for each of us. When we got there we were told that they had enough decks for us to buy one, so we were glad that our search was finally over. When we got to the counter to buy the decks, I saw they were selling them for twice the retail price. I was pissed off once again. Me and my friends have been spending most of our free time driving across Long Island to various stores that would carry them and not find these anywhere. And who was behind the counter that day? Blue. I asked Blue why they were pricing them so high, and Blue simply told me that the demand for the decks warrants the price regardless of its retail value. Out of frustration, I expressed how these decks go for 10 dollars at the store. Blue, once again, laughs at my face, and says "You tell me where they are 10 dollars and I will buy them out". It was at that moment when I came to the conclusion that Blue went out of their way to buy out the retail stores of these decks and flip these decks for double the price. From that moment on, I chose to do all my shopping at other local game stores and online. For anyone reading this, Blue is not the owner. The owner is honestly one of the nicest guys I've met and easy to get along with. I want to see this place do well, but I feel so bothered by how terrible their staff such as Blue handles customers. I didn't choose to protest Brothers Grim for their prices, times are tough and I get it. I chose to protest Brothers Grim because of how their staff treats their customers, even the ones who stuck by them for 7 years. read more

With the pandemic and table games not being allowed in NY I figured I would spend my money at local stores instead of going to Amazon or some other online realtor for A few dollars less. While shopping at the display cabinet for used minis in the back of the store, a 400 lb Bald guy decides to basically step in front of me bend over and start tidying things up. For no reason at all. Just started moving things around. This went on for about 2 minutes while I was waiting patiently to leave. Did not say a word. did not say "excuse me" or "do you need help or anything?"etc. he just decided to get 2inches from me and pick random things up and put them back down. I had merchandise in my hand Which means I was going to spend money. I had a $44.00 used mini I wanted to buy. That got put right back where I found it. Then at the counter he also gave me a nasty attitude because I stood on the card line instead of the "other retail" line. as if there was a sign saying this register is for card games only. This is also the same person that told me I would be banned from the store forever if I used the Wi-Fi password two days in a row after buying access for 5 bucks years ago. This is not the first time I've had a rude person At the counter when making a purchase here. Moving forward I will just go to another hobby store or order online Because I'm sick of horrible customer service . There was a time When you treated a customer with courtesy and respect so they would come back to your store and spend money again. Those days are long gone. I understand a bunch of 10 year olds playing card games pays the bills and my few dollars in the drawer means nothing. But no other hobby store sells the Army painter paints which is what I went there for Next time I'll shop on the internet and save myself the aggravation. During a pandemic why would you get An inch away from a random stranger ? Remember social distancing kids?? What if he was A carrier and did not know it? Some of the reviews I've read so far seem to be completely un backed with what seems to be a lack of effort from the customer to take full advantage of the store. I personally started my hobby for Warhammer and magic here and it remains to be the best place for customer service and just overall enjoyment not to mention the store is massive and has almost anything imaginable for all of these hobbies (magic, age of sigmar, 40k, table top games etc..) To start off as long as you show some interest in the hobby and ask the staff questions on how the store operates you'll have a wonderful time. For example I was unsure on what their policy was for the used mini section and asked if I was allowed to browse and Gill the owner proceeded to tell how it all works how it's organized not only that he also asked me how I got into the hobby what army's I enjoyed and we overall had a great conversation. What solidified this as my favorite place to visit was the fact in the conversation I offhandedly mentioned I really wished to buy this tank model for the army I was playing. When I came back a few weeks later the owner had the foresight to add it to his next order and reserved a box for me. I have many more examples of why I love this store between great experiences like this and also that the majority of the staff are all still actively interested in the hobby but it's too much to list. All it takes is from some polite effort from the customer to actually talk to these people and show what they are looking for. read more

Was a go to place of mine, before I asked to go through the yugioh cards one of the larger employees at the front were talking and I couldn't get any assistance, I stood there for a second and he then acknowledged me so I asked about the cards and he gave me the bins of cards and then he yanked them from me when I returned them, and then I made a simple mistake of not seeing the sign of asking for an employee to get a figure but it was an accident and he was very rude about it. Then kept going, I apologized for my mistake and he seems so bothered by it , and then tossed my card back at me. Like seriously ??? This place was always so close to me and being one of the only places like this in the area I've always defaulted to here. I used to play table top warhammer at 17-20 years old. I'm now 30. I've been in and out of there for a long time. Being a woman if you've ever been you can understand how creepy the guys get so was never somewhere I went alone. Recently started buying Pokémon from play n trade that rents a space there and I can not even begin to describe how rude the owner was about letting me pre-order a celebrations etb. Went in and the playntrade employee tried to ask him for me and he went on to say it was only for the tournament players. I offered to pay for a spot in the tournament and he still said no. At this point I understood. When coming back the next day for a psa slab I really wanted the employee who helped me the day before said he only got 1 pre-order and they'd most likely let me have 1. NOPE. The man wouldn't look at me said it was only available for "regular" customers. I've been going there for 13 years! People in your store pictures are my friends! Never going back to the crap hole. They need a major make over and huge attitude adjustment! read more

I enjoyed this store nice selection of everything. My only criticism would be prices on cards are slightly higher than I would have expected attempting local vs online. Customer service was fine. My friend, a somewhat prolific Magic card trader, and I hit up Brothers Grimm on a recommendation from a player at Empire Gaming in Farmingdale. Sure enough, the store had a pretty amazing selection of singles for trading. The two guys at the counter were really nice and everything about the trade went well. In addition, if you wander over to the other half of the store (they have amassed I think three storefronts in the strip mall - two are merged together nicely, one is a bit separate and you have to go through one of two archways in the wall to get there), there is a reasonable, if random, selection of games. RoboRally, Alhambra, various things like Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, and Settlers. Board games are definitely not the focus of the store (the main room is dedicated to CCGs/TCGs and war games), but if you want to browse and find something, you would have decent luck. The mediocre rating, however, is mostly due to the environment (both physically and in attitude). The main room of the store had 3 very long rows of folding tables for card tournaments, plus another two rows of taller tables for miniatures. Overall the store could use a good cleaning and there is a need for some serious organization to the back area, which had piles and piles of junk laying around in full view. In addition, the collection of guys in the store (not the employees, the actual customers), were not exactly the most pleasant people. Lots of swearing, loud boasting, etc. I'm a pretty easy-going person who can tolerate a lot of ridiculousness, but at one point my (male) friend looked over and noticed that I was completely closed off, arms crossed, looking like I wanted to run for the hills. I don't think every place has to be prim and proper, but had my friend not been in the middle of a trade, I would have high-tailed out of there pretty quickly. Even he was fed up with the group right behind us after a particularly annoying interaction with a one fellow. As we were getting ready to leave, the main employee involved in the trade got out from behind the counter, looked around, and then scolded the general group at what a mess the place was. So it appears that there is at least some bit of standards in place... fingers crossed the next trip will be more pleasant. read more

My "go to" gaming store of choice particularly because it's the only one available near me. That said Brother's Grimm does not disappoint me as a Magic the Gathering player. They offer a vast array of singles in their glass shelf and more obscure cards in binders by set behind the counter. Their sealed product usually stretches the full rotation which is another bonus. Play area is particularly spacious but not when drafts and tournaments are taking place. As for the staff, it's a mixed bag at best. Some of the staff are really friendly, however many of my friends seem to disagree. I've seen my fair share of less than accommodating employees especially one time when one of their larger employees yelled at me to get out of the way of an aisle since he needed all the area space to pass by. Moving to the side wasn't enough, as he continued to berate me to get out of the aisle fully. Another time, another employee threatened to kick a player out of a draft because he was talking over another. Aside from these random tirades, the staff isn't all that bad. Just don't bother them when they look busy and you should have no problem. read more

Add TWO stars if you are a collectible card game player or table top game player looking for tournaments. This is a somewhat-hidden (due to a gas/service station between it and the main road) location that is much bigger inside than what it appears. The first room houses a long series of tables for either card game playing or table top war gaming, with the walls housing most of the stock for sale (including multiple displays of painted individual figures/units for sale). The register is behind the long counter, towards the back of the room - and this may be what creates the somewhat parochial/insular atmosphere. Everywhere I walk around here, each time I go, I have the feeling as if I am disturbing someone or some group as they game. There is a second room that houses an impressive print collection for any RPG one might be looking for. Again, the areas are somewhat organized (if you ignore the 1/4 of the 2nd room that appears to be piles of "stuff" in the back) but the surfaces seem dirty and the floor is covered in worn carpet. I know it seems petty, but it really does make a difference when the customer service is lacking, and the stock can be sparse on essentials (really anemic dice selection for a gaming store and there is always an excuse when I have asked about the poor selection). Really poor board (euro/ameritrash) game selection for a game store of this size. Grim indeed. The crowds on tournament nights or deck-release events however are an impressive sight. read more

First of all, it's Brothers Grim, not Brothers Grimm. I went in and was greeted by a ton of tables set up for gaming, so I expect that there are gaming events at this location. I was just looking around to see what they have. No one talked to me or acknowledged my existence, which I don't really like. They have an ok, but not impressive collection of board games, which is what I came in to see. They have the main boards for a lot of the game standards, but not much outside of that. The place is always crowded with people playing in groups their favorite games and the store has any accessories you may need for gaming or just modeling as well as books and other things. read more

This place looks like it would be fun -- huge open area with plenty of long tables for TCG's (I happened to come in at the start of a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament) and raised tables for tabletops and miniatures. There were also a few PCs in the back where some people were playing League. I did like the overwhelming miniatures that crowded the walls and Yu-Gi-Oh! foils in the case near the cash register. However, I didn't feel particularly welcomed, especially since it was my first time there and no one welcomed me, offered to show me what was going on, or even give me the heads up on what they offered. I know I'd feel right at home among the mixed crowd of different ages, but I just couldn't find a connection in the 10 minutes I curiously wondered around the store. read more

I've come here for Magic: The Gathering tournaments a few times and the experience has been alright. I've found that the employees don't acknowledge you in any way or much less make an effort to talk to you if you show any interest in one of the many hobbies they support here. The store is also a bit run down and can be dirty but its a gaming shop (and a pretty busy one at times) so nothing too far out of the ordinary. The selection is great, the prices are fair and the space is large with many tables and a variety of things to do during your time at the store. Whether you like board games, tabletop games, card games or video games, Brothers Grim does its part in a world where not too many of these kind of places are around. If the staff was friendlier and had a greater interest in the customers and the store was cleaner , this place would receive a five-star rating from me. read more

Hey guys this is one of my favorite places by far as of today. Brothers grim is a card store. They have all card games. Vanguard,Magic the gathering, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, and dragon ball z. They also have 40k which is another game that uses figures instead of cards. I play vanguard and Magic the gathering. But if you want to get into a card game it's all up to you. I try to go there at least once a week with friends usually on Saturdays and Sunday's. I love this place. They also do tournaments every week. They get around 45-90 people in each tournament. They have tons of tables to play and have fun with friends. And a huge selection of cards. And they also have a computer station in the back to play whatever u want. They are open Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. To 1:00 a.m. And Sunday's from 10:00 a.m. To 10:00 p.m. They also have excellent customer service. The reason I gave it 4 stars out of 5 is because of the shopping center it is in. The general area is very good. It's just there are a lot of no name stores in the shopping center and it's pretty sketchy but the general area is excellent. read more

I love that they have AD&D's first and second edition also! Second edition is useful for worldbuilding and character development. The only downer is most of the books are more expensive than they are on Amazon, including shipping and all. read more
