I'm very pleased with the experience that I had personally at Brookside Tattoo, however I will not return. I went with two friends and we all got tattoos together. None of us got anything extravagant (the 3 of us took about 45 minutes total) and the experience from start to finish was very positive. When we left the artist and the owner were in the room (I believe they are spouses). I asked about aftercare and we were given instruction and then the artist proceeded to tell us that their tattoos were guaranteed. He said if there was any fading or anything that we weren't pleased with that we could come back and he would touch it up or do whatever we needed done. We all got tattoos of our dogs on our arms so he even mentioned that if our dogs scratched it, that he would be glad to help us if we came back in! We all tipped well, about 20% each. I thought that the artist was extremely generous and the guarantee was the cherry on top of our overall positive experience. Until...... One of my friend's decided that her tattoo didn't look quite the way she wanted and decided she would like another few accent lines. The lines that she wanted were TINY - about 10 tiny accent lines that probably all together would be less than an inch. She decided to go back in a couple of days after we were there originally and ask for them to add those lines based on the guarantee that was promised to her. Unfortunately, they did not honor their guarantee and charged her an extra $60 for this. Until this happening, I had planned on leaving a positive review for the company. I even had a picture to share of my dog next to my tattoo. It was my first tattoo and was a very good experience for me, but the lack of customer service and not honoring their word for my good friend will keep me from going back or recommending this business for others. read more

I went with my friend to get her cartilage pierced and my nose and they were telling me a price that was ridiculous compared to other places that are a flat rate of 20$. So then my friend agreed to have them do it after they said they wouldn't do her ear of choice and charge her 20$ more for getting a stud instead of a hoop. They then proceed to clean the room up (which was good except for the fact that they had no one in the chair) which took about 20 mins. Once the lady finally finished and said she was ready for my friend she wouldn't let ANYONE go in the back to hold her hand (which as a girl it's important to have moral support). Although they got done really quick they didn't even take the time to explain to my friend care instructions. read more

Over the past 4 years, I have been to Brookside Tattoo four times: twice for tattoos and twice for piercings. Each time has been a great experience from start to finish. The girl at the front desk is friendly and welcoming, and the staff is just the same. You can tell they genuinely enjoy their work environment and all have a family like feeling towards one another. If they don't, they definitely do not let it show! Tattoo parlors can be intimidating and it's nice to go somewhere with INCREDIBLY comfortable club chairs in the lobby, great decor and friendly people. Perri (sp?) did my piercing and she took her time with placement, ensured I was happy with it, asked my boyfriend's opinion and offered to fix it as many times as we needed. Gabby and Jonathan (the owner) have both done tattoos for me. Each time was a spur of the moment, walk-in. Both took their time to get the designs right and obviously took pride in what they do. My boyfriend got a tattoo done here and he had never been in more pain. The girl tattooed him so deep, he was covered in blood. He's had 3 tattoos done before this one and has not shed that much blood any other time. She told him shed touch it up for free when it healed, but he couldn't go through that again. Her lines were good but gosh darn she didn't even cover it properly so when we left there was blood dripping down his chest at dinner after. To add on to that she had a huge TV in her space with a creepy movie playing on full blast the entire appointment. read more

As an amateur artist myself, I have made respect for every tattoo artist. That being said, if you choose to do work outside of your business, whether on a family member or just some random person, every piece should reflect the artist. I recently saw a piece and when asked who did the work, I was amazed to find out that one of your artists was the one who did it. I've done my research and this guy has some amazing pieces, he can do things that I haven't learned or mastered yet, and to find out he's been tattooing the better part of 30 years and looking at this piece I was in utter disbelief. So I pose the question, no matter the piece or the client, as an artist, would you not want every piece to be a direct reflection of you, and stand out with your signature? Everyone is entitled to believe in whatever they choose but if you don't approve or have an issue with a piece then why agree to do it? My own personal opinion is that if this artist did not approve or had a personal issue with it then he should have simply said no whether it be a paying customer or not. I chose to leave names out but if anyone at this shop feels it necessary to contact me, feel free. Your clients should be happy with your work and you should take pride in the work you've done, and based on that piece you should be ashamed of yourself. read more

My tattoo Artists name was Jason, his room is the one with the pink chair, He is Amazing. I came in wanting a tattoo on a very specific&difficult area that I had been envisioning&was so desperately deadset on getting.The area in which I was wanting was extremely proned to blowouts, JASON was extremely PROFESSIONAL&KNOWLEDGEABLE plus genuinelycaring as to advising&educating me about the area in which I was wanting my tattoo to be placed, he helped me relocate a few inches over(with still considerably the risk of a potential blowout in the area I was choosing) but Jason agreed with my consistency of wanting to take the risk of a blow out in the area I so desperately wanted. Jason was So Patient with my deadsetness on wanting such a difficult area prone to a blowout&worked with me.In the end the tat did not blow out a single bit. I love &adore my sacred tattoo & look at it as a beautiful piece of art. I would not want just anyone tattooing me, as I take my tattoos as art work & energy that tells a story of who I am & tattoos carry storie. If you want a tattoo artist who you will be in good hands will creating a piece of art in which will be attached to you forever ask for Jason, he's the man. read more

If you want good customer service DO NOT go here! If you want to feel confident about the end product of your tattoo DO NOT go here! I am SUPER disappointed in this place. I had an appointment to get my first tattoo there last night, but my husband and I ended up walking out and demanding our money back... The bad experience began when I called in one day and asked when I could come in to talk through my design with a tattoo artist. They wouldn't schedule me a time (at Brookside you have to put down a non-refundable deposit for them to actually work on a design for you), but they told me to come in later that afternoon and I could talk to an artist. So I came in that afternoon. The front desk girl acted confused by my request to speak to an artist, but she eventually brought someone who I assumed was an artist out to talk with me. His name was Jonathan and it was clear he didn't get why I wanted to talk to him. He repeatedly said my tattoo was "simple" and would "take 5 minutes;" he didn't see the need for a consultation. When I said "this is my first tattoo! This is HUGE to me!" His response was, "Yeah, I have trouble sympathizing with that." Then when I asked if he could work out a stencil design of it, all he offered to do was draw in on my wrist. With a pen. In the lobby, in front of other customers. Totally embarrassing, but I didn't know what to say so I let him. And here's the kicker; as he started doodling on me he said, "AND I'M NOT A TATTOO ARTIST, SO THIS ISN'T GOING TO BE PERFECT. I'M JUST A PIERCER." After all that and they hadn't even brought me a tattoo artist to talk to! (The irony is the "just a piercer" guy turned out to be the owner of the shop. I should have known to find a new place right then and there.) I went ahead and booked an appointment, because next to Karma Tattoo & Body Piercing Brookside seems to have the most consistently positive reviews (and Karma is currently closed due to relocation). I then decided to change my design, and since my in-person experience hadn't worked out well, I contacted the shop via their Facebook page and asked what I should do to ensure my artist was prepared for the design change in time for my appointment. I got a very short response that said "you need to come in on wednesday and talk to him about the change, I cant make a change to your tattoo over the internet :( " (direct quote). At this point I explained my mounting frustration with their customer service, and they backtracked a bit and tried to be helpful. So I went ahead and came to my appointment last night. All I wanted was a name tattooed on my wrist. Very simple, which seems to be Brookside's main hang-up. Both Jonathan (the owner) and Jason (my would-be artist) had a very clear "this is way too easy for me to worry about" attitude. When I wanted to make small changes to the font, I was met with attitude. When I asked to make two lines parallel, I was told I "didn't understand tattoos" and that there was no way to guarantee those lines would stay parallel over time. Yeah, dude, I get that. But if they're not parallel to START they definitely WON'T be parallel over time! I was asking for such small tweaks, but it was so clear he thought such a small, "insignificant" tattoo was not worth even the slightest deviation from the computer-generated font. What an artistic approach to one's craft. When it was unclear whether Jason was willing to even make the very, very simple changes requested, my husband said "This isn't that hard, man." That made Jason mad, it would seem, because he turned around and walked off into the back of the shop. PROFESSIONALISM AT ITS FINEST. At that point we decided to leave (although my husband went back in and demanded a refund, which he did receive). I was extremely disappointed, because this is something I've been researching and planning ever since a family member passed away (this tattoo will be a tribute to him). I was excited to get this done, and I was actually really looking forward to using Brookside because I live nearby and love to support area shops. I know that losing my business might not hurt them, but I hope this is wake-up call that they've created a hostile environment to anyone who isn't a) a tattoo aficionado and b) willing to relinquish their rights to partake in the design process of THEIR OWN tattoo. On Brookside's website it says, "Our shop is different from others you may have seen or heard about in that we do not have that old school mentality people expect to see such as being unfriendly or even intimidating. Rather, everyone at our shop is friendly, easy to talk to and here to help our clients have the best experience they possibly can." NOTHING could be further from the truth. read more

Can't speak for the other tattoo artists at this studio, but whatever you do, avoid Doyle Wright. He is a hack. Went in for "Beware of Dog" tattoo. Doyle Wright somehow managed to misspell the word "OF" with "OE". Said he'd take care of it by inking over it with a flesh colored ink. But only if and when I scheduled a time that was convenient for him to come in. I did that twice, and it didn't work. I asked for a refund and maybe for him to pay for a bit of tattoo removal, and he yelled at me and said he wasn't going to pay it. Tried to talk to owner, never called me back. No refund for a messed-up tattoo, no attempt to make it right by paying for tattoo removal. Paid myself to get it fixed with laser removal, making my botched tattoo even more expensive. read more

I took my mom here for her first tattoo. Jesse got double-booked so we had to reschedule. Mom was not happy considering she is not a person that likes to wait when she has an appointment. I went in recently on a Saturday night to get a nostril piercing (55$, which included the stud). I felt like they were doing all they could to get me in and out as quickly as possible. The piercer did not mark where she would put the piercing and ask for my opinion (which I assumed she would do, didn't realize I would have to ask for this) and did not give any warning that she was about to put the needle through - I was in the room for all of 30 seconds. Thankfully I was happy with the placement but this could have been a huge issue, and it seems like a bad idea in general to not get confirmation of the placement. Then afterwards they give you some sea salt and written instructions on after care which I appreciated, but I wish the piercer herself had been more receptive to answering questions. I asked for some clarification and she curtly said "it's on the instructions". It would have been better if the peircer had summarized the instructions and asked if you had any questions instead of just pushing you out the door. It was not like there were a bunch of people waiting, either. Overall it wasn't an awful experience or anything but the lack of decent customer service means I will skip the place the next time I am looking for a piercing. read more

I had my first child (son) this year and wanted to get a tattoo "for him" so I went here. What a mistake! First off I called and the chick that answered said they had an opening now, which is what I was looking for. I Got to Brookside Tattoo in under 10 minutes. She said all her openings just filled up (which was bullshit, thwere wasn't any in the first place). I let that one slide and scheduled for 3 months out, which was the only opening they had. I put $100.00 down at that point. I come back 3 months later. The guy fucks up my tattoo, misses a fucking letter. Keep in mind this tattoo is very important to me. He says he can fix it. So I make another appointment for another month later. I get there and he has no ideas on how to fix it. I had to come up with the idea, which It's fixed now but not how I wanted it. He said he wanted to keep it simple while fixing it ( he was doing it for free). Never offered my $100.00 back to me. Also heard about a few people getting there tattoos fucked up there. DON'T GO HERE!!!!! The thing that pisses me off most is they didn't offer my money back. REALLY BAD BUSINESS ETHICS! HOW CAN YO MISS A LETTER!?!?!? read more

this place sucks, got a tattoo here and it looks like a 3rd grader did it! the guy told me he could do the whole tattoo for 150 after bout an hour he filled it in half way and told me tough luck and come back , ended up costing me extra 100 just to have someone else try to fix it ! don't go here go anywhere else is better than this shop! read more

Ok so i went to get a 2nd tattoo recently and my appointment was when they opened at 12. I get there on time and did the procedure; gave them my drivers license m, filled out the consent, etc. I then had a seat while they went to get my tattoo artist named Doyle which was outside smoking. He came inside in a bad mood and said "are you ready!" Very rude like. I said yes and immediately texted my friend to hurry and get there I felt really uncomfortable. Then he went to get the stencil with the quote and writing I wanted down my spine. Meanwhile a week before I made my appointment I emailed the quote I wanted, a picture of what I wanted the length of the tattoo to be, and the font. They told me that the price would be around $150- $200. When he went to put the stencil on he never measured it with my back. It took him 6 tries to get the first stencil right. Well finally he gets it right and tells me and my friend to look at the tattoo and make sure that's how we wanted it. It went to the middle of my back which is not how I wanted it. So I asked if he could make it go down to the bottom of my back and maybe make the font bigger. He immediately got pissed of and told me that I keep changing my mind. I got really frustrated because I never changed it once and his attitude was very disrespectful to me. I then told him if he was going to continue to act that way I will take my money elsewhere. He then said no you don't have to do that and walked out if the room to get a new stencil that fit my criteria. He comes back and starts putting the new stencil on my back well I had my best friend look at it and she told him it is a little off towards the top. He got mad again and snapped her and said "this is my job and I know what I'm doing!" Very rudely. She then sat down and he said he doesn't know why he needed to fix it it looked straight but it wasn't even on my spine. Right after a couple more friends came in and they watched him take another 6 times to get my stencil on right by that time I had been there for 1.5 hours. He put some stuff over the ink from the stencil and said he will be back in 10 min. When it dries then he will start. He starts tattooing my spine which hurts but I just wanted to get it finished so I could go. He kept stopping the tattoo and watching golf on the TV. Then when it became 2:30pm he started talking to another gentleman that does tattoos and talked about someone else finishing it. But that is not what I paid for and he was not the one I wanted to do my tattoo. So I said that I preferred he finished. He continued doing my tattoo and about 15 minutes later he got up and said he needed to take a break. He then leaves the room for 15 minutes or so and leaves the door open. I am topless with other customers and workers walking by which made it very uncomfortable. I was very upset with how everything was going all I wanted to do was leave. He comes back and starts back up on my tattoo. And about 3:30 I was finished. my appointment ran over the time expected. So he told one of my friends which had an appointment at 2 that gmhe would have to cancel on her and she would have to reschedule instead of pushing the other appointments back. So she went and got her money back and was very pissed. He then charged me and extra 25 bucks for the extra time it took. Which was clearly not my fault. He said this was his job and he knew what he was doing yet he overcharged me because of all the errors he made. I am just saying if you go to this place for a tattoo don't get it done but Doyle unless you like someone being a complete jerk! read more
