When we got home to eat, my wife's salad seemed like it was from the bottom of the bin and my sandwich was not good. My husband and I recently moved to the area and one of our favorite places to eat is Brookside Market. It's one of the few places that he can get a really good deli sandwich/sub and I can get a really good hot meal, like a crab cake! We have very different tastes so it's awesome to have it all in one place. We had a party a few weeks ago and decided to use Brookside Market for our catering. Within minutes of filling out the online form, we were contacted by one of their staff members! They were extremely helpful as we were making our selections for catering. The entire process was very smooth, from ordering, to payment, to scheduling pick up. To top it all off, our guests raves about the food. We ordered a bunch of sandwiches. There was a variety of kinds. They were all eaten or taken home by guests for later! We also got Caesar salads and penne vodka. The penna vodka was delicious. Just moved up to the Jacksonville area and I have fallen in love with Brookside Market. I've been here several times now and everything is absolutely delicious!!! Fresh sandwiches, amazing wings and tons of beverages to choose from. The staff, waiters and waitresses are all very kind. Everything is always clean and orderly. Lunch time is usually very busy but the wait time is not long at all! I look forward to continue to come here for yummy food!! We utilized their online ordering app. Received a text that order would be ready at 6:45pm. Our 2 items, a salad and one entre, were not ready until 7:15pm. In addition we ordered dessert from the case. Making 2 cannolis took 15 minutes as everyone tended to other duties behind the counter. This was an awful experience after a long workweek. We meet our sons girlfriends parents for dinner on a salad nigh for dinner. The restaurant at first glance was modern and clean but as we sat down we realized that the open Concepts with high ceilings made the room very loud and hard for a table of 7 to hear each other. I ordered the black and blue salad which was good but the vinaigrette dressing had no flavor. A person in our party order the power house salad and she said the same thing about the dressing. My husband ordered the shrimp salad, he said it was tasteless, my son ordered the Reuben and he said it was excellent my other son had the veggie pizza and he said it was also good. I can only speak to the takeout, but we stopped in to grab some sandwiches and a kids meal and were so pleasantly surprised. They offer a nice array of foods and the store/restaurant itself was super clean and sleek. The Italian cold cut was one of the best cold cuts we have ever enjoyed, and we have sampled some of the best in Providence/Boston etc. The blackened chicken Caesar wrap was super flavorful and filling. The biggest surprise was our kids meal though--kids chicken tenders and fries tend to be a sad affair. Not here. The good - The food is usually very good and high quality in my experience. We've been in there a handful of times. The bad - It's extremely expensive. I'm certainly willing to pay for a quality meal, but when you pay $15-$20 for some of the sandwiches and they don't even come with fries or chips, that's kind of crazy. The pizza's are really expensive for "personal size." I think they have a lot of potential if they can address some of the issues, but folks are more apt to continue visiting places that fit within family budgets and this place is a once in a while kind of place as the menu sits now. read more

Brookside was great until they blatantly screwed me and other regular customers. My wife and I loved their pizza, until now. We always bought a 16" shrimp and garlic pizza. However, last night the pizza was only 10" and garlic powder was used in place of real garlic. They even used a large pizza box. I was shocked when I opened the large pizza box when I got home and saw a personal size pizza. The pizza changed but the price was the same. I called and the manager who lied and said their pizzas are small but the box manufacturer could only send them large boxes. I know small businesses are struggling, which is why I support them. That is becoming harder and harder when businesses like Brookside screw you over without warning and then lie about it to your face. I did suggest advertising their new pizza sizes and ingredient changes on their website and menus. I'm sure that will not happen. read more

So, as promised in my last review, I tried the Chicken Pot Pie and-WOW- is it a showstopper! Don't order this dish unless you want everyone to "ooh and ah" when they bring it to the table. I have 2 (minor) suggestions for this dish: lighten the gravy a bit-it was a touch too thick and somehow (maybe not possible???) cook it so that the underside of the puff pastry is thoroughly done-it was a tad doughy. But these do not take away from the fact that this was a delicious and generously bodacious entrée! Another suggestion: please don't use spray bottles to clean tables while people are eating. There is nothing worse than trying to enjoy a great meal and have the smell (and taste) of a scented cleaning product wafting up your nose. 1st time to this spot and definitely not the last. We scheduled a family get together with the In law/ siblings ans spouses as we are out of town for business and typically return every month for short family visits but due to pandemic have not travelled since Feb. They have set up a picnic area outback which served a great purpose. Hopefully they will be able to continue this seating afterwards as it was a very nice setting. The food to say the least was incredible is totally and under sell and under statement. Everything was very fresh and the portions for the prize are well worth the 27 mile drive that we ventured to visit. I stopped in for a sandwich and noticed that they had Margherita pizza on the menu. I had not had a really good margherita pizza since I was in Rome. So I gave it a try. It turned out to be a GREAT choice, although one of us thought hers was a little too dry for her liking. We were all very happy with our choice. 3.5 stars.. The area needed a non-chain restaurant that serves good food. I think they have a lot of potential and want to see them succeed. The atmosphere is cozy.. modern- farm house-ish?? The menu selections are pretty diverse and we were hopeful. The sandwiches= crunchy warm bread drizzled with olive oil and cheese? Quite an interesting touch, but needed more meat filling. The fries were really delicious too. Now, my issue is with their pizza. It's an authentic pizza oven made with parts from Naples and assembled by people from Naples. But, the execution of the pizza was lacking. I guess it's ok that it's an oval and not a circle... but the though was not airy.. it was chewy and I don't think the oven was cooking at a high enough temperature. The sauce needed a little bit of salt and overall it was pretty bad. I hope we just caught them on an off day as I hope to return and give it another try. read more

They found my number, called me when I was halfway home (Towson), and offered to send someone to bring them to me!! I went back and they graciously threw an extra pizza and dessert on the order. I'm sure they felt a tiny bit responsible for letting me leave without all my food, but it was 100% my fault. I take my dog to the vet next door - this place was always crowded so I finally ( after a year ) decided to try it. I am a very picky person about my food as I go to a lot of restaurants but mainly I cook at home. I was very disappointed in the items we ordered. The fried green tomatoes with blackened shrimp was in a word ' disappointing' first off the tomatoes were not green but yellow tomatoes and they were thinly sliced so the Panko coating and the deep frying was not good - all we coukd taste was burnt Panko crumbs ... tomatoes are too delicate to be dipped in Panko and deep fried - the tomatoes had no seasoning and they were flavorless - the shrimp seasoning was soooo salty - we like salt but the shrimp seasoning was so salty - we tossed it after a few bites. our second course was the salad with chicken and avocado - this was also disappointing... the chicken was bland ( no seasoning) and the dressing was awful - it was supposed to be cilantro lime - we did not taste cilantro or lime - all we tasted was mayonnaise- it was not good. And the salad itself came with some toppings that were not listed - we did not like this salad. Sadly our first visit was not good - not sure I woule back. read more
