Rouge catered my daughters wedding this past weekend. All went exactly as planned. Plentiful appetizers and huge portions for dinner. The staff took great care of our guests. The mini chicken tacos for cocktail hour were a huge hit. The staff did a great job setting up our cookie/dessert table

Working with Rouge Catering was the highlight of my April 2017 wedding in DC. Why? Three things: the food is phenomenal, the price is astoundingly affordable, and our event manager, Sarah Kelley, was maybe the most outstanding person that I have ever gotten to work with. First, the food was incredible - like, not just incredible-for-wedding-food, but actually incredible.* I am still blown away by the appetizers and how fancy they were - we had 5 types of passed appetizers (all amazingly composed AND served so you didn't need a plate to eat one, which is the hallmark of a great app) and a sprawling, homemade antipasti bar that had at least a dozen options on it. For the main meal, we did a buffet with tons of delicious options, and anyone with dietary considerations (i.e., vegan) got their own specially prepared meal. Why is it so good? They actually build a kitchen on site and cook everything. Not finishing everything - actually cook it. And it matters. Open bar was unlimited all night and included all top shelf liquors imaginable (including a whiskey and a bourbon and a scotch), a variety of beers, and three wine choices (one red blend, one white blend, and a truly outstanding rose). Second, the price - the whole meal, with fully open bar, with a three-tier Charm City wedding cake and coffee service included, and full staffing, was the best price we were quoted. No hidden costs or "add ons" that popped up later - my sole additional cost was linen rentals ($300 total for like 17 nice tablecloths and upgraded napkins), because the staff is not allowed to accept tips. I need to expound a bit here: Rouge was by far the lowest price quoted for me, and yet it was by far the fanciest. To be honest, I actually encountered them first at a wedding expo at the American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore; their display was so upscale and elaborate, and their food was so complex and flavorful, that I didn't even call them in my initial search because I assumed that I could never afford them if I wanted to stay within our budget. Meanwhile, they managed to come in under our budget, and that price included the staff setting up the whole venue, providing all the drinks and food, doing cleanup, providing the groom and I table service, etc. They even followed us around outside on the vast venue grounds while we were taking photos to give us food and drinks. In short: rejoice in finding something you can afford and that is mind-blowing. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, event manager Sarah (and Rouge staff in general). Sarah was the most amazing person to work with; her excitement and professionalism made this the easiest and most enjoyable part of wedding planning. She was always available to us and worked to find the perfect price point for us while still providing far and beyond what I had hoped to serve at my wedding. When we visited their site for our tasting, we got to meet the owners and see how small and close the staff is, and it just felt good to give my business to people who care passionately about where they work. (Plus Sarah is hilarious and cool! I am actually sad that I don't talk to her weekly now!) The staff at the event took care of so much and allowed us and my family to just enjoy the day. The venue looked AMAZING, the staff that was there was adorably sweet and so efficient (and adept at handling tipsy and bossy family members!), and everything went off without a hitch without needing any attention from me. I cannot recommend this company enough for anything. They are truly outstanding and I cannot praise them enough. (Reposted in December 2019 because typos in the previous review drove me nuts and Yelp removed the edit button for some reason....)

My husband and I were so very, very lucky to have Rouge Fine Catering host our wedding celebration in April 2016. We were original directed to Rouge by our reception venue along with 10+ other recommendations. We take eating very seriously in our house and your typical wedding menu was not going to cut it for us. After scouring all the potential caterers' websites, Rouge's menu stood out to us as the most diverse and modern. From the moment we reached out to the Rouge team, the experience was extremely professional, reliable, collaborative and fun. Before we committed to using Rouge, we had a full tasting and tour of their extremely impressive Hunt Valley facility. I had it in my head that they were a "smaller" company, which certainly isn't the case. They are a well a very sophisticated, well-oiled machine. And at the same time they always made us feel special and important. That first tasting sealed the deal and all subsequent tastings with other caterers didn't compare to Rouge. The food was absolutely outstanding and most of what we tried at our first tasting ended up on our wedding menu. What impressed me even more though was how much we felt like they wanted to work with us to make us happy. I knew we were going to be in great hands with Rouge and they did not disappoint. Leading up to the wedding we were in constant communication with our catering manager, Katie Canarr. Saying that Katie is fantastic, dedicated to executing flawless events, a true partner, and a thoughtful leader may just be the understatement of the year. Katie exercised a tremendous amount of patience with our multiple menu flips and flops. She helped me work out our very tricky seating plan, our linen selections, the event's signature drink, last minute rental needs (hello space heaters in April!). Did I mention she dreamed up the world's best donut bar?? Fresh mini donuts served in a martini glass for our guests to top with the fixings of their choice? It was absolutely amazing and such a hit. Also, I never had to track down Katie. She was always one step ahead of me guiding me through the process, which is saying a lot because I was one persistent bride with a vision for what I wanted. She made the process fun, enjoyable and easy for me and my husband. Katie is an absolute rock star and our special day would not have been the same without her. On our wedding day, everything was absolutely flawless. It was more than I ever expected with even a couple surprises for this very OCD, detail-oriented bride. The Rouge staff was top notch and we even had guests comment on the level of professionalism that their team displayed. They clearly take a lot of pride in what they do from start to finish. Did I mention the food??? IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. It's been almost six months since our wedding and I still have family and friends talking about how delicious the food at our wedding was (seriously, when does that actually happen??). And they are not just saying it....they are gushing talking about specific items that they ate. Our appetizer selections included: BLT bites, coconut shrimp with mango dipping sauce, mini chicken tacos, duck confit crepes with plum sauce, brie tartlets with raspberry coulis. We served cornbread (YUM!) along with a mesclun salad with pear, cranberries, and gorgonzola. Dinner choices were either beef shortrib with a demi glaze or seafood vol au vent (unreal!) along with grilled asparagus and roasted rosemary fingerling potatoes. Then we served delish wedding cake along with the donut bar. It was a dynamite menu and a total home run with our guests! I would recommend Rouge to anyone. I am already thinking of reasons that I may need to cater more events in the future just so I can work with them again. Seriously, I am very picky and they really, truly nailed it. Thank your Rouge team for making the most important day of our life so easy, memorable and delicious!!

The food here isn't great. It's Sysco quality at best with a cafeteria setting. I think it's owned by Poulet.

Brendon and Kristen got back to me promptly and happily with answers to my questions. I was nervous to turn over the reins to my daughter's micro wedding to anyone but Liliahna gave me peace of mind. They were so knowledgeable and willing to please. On the day of the wedding, they sent me a crew of 5 people who worked together like a well-oiled machine. If we needed or wanted something, it magically appeared...served up with a smile. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. Brooke, our bartender was so kind and efficient. Everything was done with a feeling of family. I would never hesitate to recommend Liliahna to anyone looking for a caterer. They have my highest recommendation! As I told Brendon, I may have to invent another celebration just to have them back. Liliahana provided us with a first class, stress-free fairy tale wedding. I am so grateful!

He only had 6 staff, three of which were University of Maryland students who knew nothing about set up, break down, presentation etc... it was a very ungracious level of service. Tables perpetually were filled with dirty plates and glasses. 2. she specifically discussed not having a tip cup at the bar, I walked out to find one anyway, and bar tenders said Brendon allowed it 3. most of the food was frozen, or Purchased from a store like Costco, her " Grilled protein mains-chicken, beef and shrimp-were pregrilled and cold (actually the shrimp looked raw), all of his salad dressing were bottled dressings from the grocery store (appaulling). He was so understaffed he was never able to wash and cut berries to add to his fruit platters, so he took them all back to his facility 4. he assured her his staff would help with set up, break down and they would clean up. His three boys didn't know what they were doing-fortunately since I had my own catering business, MY family, quite seasoned in catering, stepped in to help and finish. 5. At the end of the evening someone side swiped one of his staffs car (staff was parked on a public street) that was the end of work for the staff member and the other two staff he transported that day, leaving cleanup to Brendon and his two bartenders.... They didn't fully clean the kitchen, not a single counter was wiped, nor the floor swept, and the two desserts provided by me and a guest were just left for us to clean. garbage wasn't emptied , rentals not packed and back together. My family came the next day and broke down all the tables and chairs. In the end, what could have been a spectacular wedding (decor was stunning, and the band great) was only beautiful. I read all of Brendon credentials, but his food didn't reflect his credentials at all and his service was ungracious and lacking. Anyone hiring him should make sure all details discussed and agreed to are then actually transferred and written into the contract. To have to clean up a wedding as a guest in my wedding cloths was horrible. I actually wanted to cry.....not to mention what it meant to my sister I her bridal gown

She helped us get better deals on aspects of our big day, figure out how to get what we wanted within budget, and mapped out every detail to perfection. Sarah made sure that everything was planned in a way that made the most sense and following her guidance led us to a day I dreamed of. When there were hiccups with a bartender being out due to COVID, she was quick to come up with a solution and I didn't even know of the issue until after the night was over. Sarah handled everything on the day-of, even transporting our personal décor, so I only had to concentrate on being with my people and soaking it all in. On top of all of that, the food was AMAZING. I would eat their short ribs for every meal and the fennel and ricotta flatbread was to die for. Everyone says you don't eat at your own wedding but Chef's Expressions made sure we got served a little of EVERYTHING so we got to eat every single dish at our wedding and they were all phenomenal. I didn't think pasta would hold up well served en masse but the pesto especially was really phenomenal. Every hors d'oeuvres, station, and dessert was delicious. This place is great for anything Italian on their menu - cold cuts , pasta dishes , pizza - all top…read morenotch . Deli sandwiches are great , huge portions of everything . The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is for 2 reasons . The fries are always little itty bitty broken greesy bits . Like they are giving you the bottom of the fryer - but they are always like this . The flavor would be good if it was a full fry and larger cut , but they use skinny fries that absorb too much grease and fall apart in the fryer . The 2nd reason for 4 stars is they do not know how to cook a soft shell crab. These people know Italian and how to put seafood in pasta , but they don't know Baltimore style seafood at all . I ordered a soft shell sandwich as a special and it was the worst soft shell I have ever attempted to eat. The saddest thing is I could tell they started with a good size heavy soft shell crab. But then they proceeded to ruin it by dipping it in some horrible thick doughy hush puppy batter and flash deep frying it ! Absolute crying shame what they did to that poor crab . I couldn't even eat it - it was this gargantuan hush puppy of fried batter dough on a little flimsy hamburger bun . It was such a mess and falling apart , I abandoned trying to eat it as a sandwich and went in with knife and fork . . When I peeled away the disgusting peppery batter so I could hopefully find the soft crab down in there somewhere - I still. couldn't eat it because the shell was so tough I couldn't even chew and swallow it . This is because it is deep fried at too high a temp and too fast for the poor crab buried in the huge dough ball to have time to cook properly. When a soft shell isn't cooked at low heat for a long time , it doesnt develop its flavor , the shell doesn't get crisp and papery . You might as well eat it raw .. to rub salt in the wound , they put it on a bun instead of just white bread and slathered it in aioli !! Gah ! Don't go trying to put an Italian sauce on a Baltimore dish !! Stay in your lane with the Italian food .. it doesn't belong on a soft shell crab. Neither does any kind of batter ! The ONLY way to cook a soft shell crab is sautéed LOW and SLOW naked in just butter on a cast iron until the shell is flakey crisp . Maybe just a light toss in plain flour if you have to cuz that's the way your momma did it , but no flour is better . Flour holds the grease flavor and takes away from the delicate flavor of the crab . It should only be served on plain untoasted white bread . White bread is best because it is flavorless - you don't want Italian bread or a roll or bun , because they have some flavor and you don't want anything , even the flavor of bread competing with the delicate crab flavor . Tomato and lettuce and mayo or tartar should be served on the side because again , not everyone wants those competing with the crab flavor. Honestly , what was done to this crab should be illegal in Maryland . The dough coating was inedible because the flavor of it was so bad and so full of greese . . So disappointing. If you need an example of a decent soft crab , order one at Pappas. Even though they toss in a little flour , they still sautee it correctly . And serve it correctly . I hope the Brookside owners read this and learn from it , because I do like the rest of their menu . From now on , I will remember where I am and stick to the caprese sub and prisciutto and mozzarella sub and save the Baltimore delicacies for places where I know it will be done right .
