I was really impressed at how nice this store is- it's clean, with lots of checkout aisles, and had a great selection. I was a bit disappointed that there was no butcher counter at such a beef-loving town. But they had a butcher, and enough produce to tide over any vegan. Their seafood department had me hooked! They had all kinds of fish and shrimp available. The clerks were nice, and got me checked out quickly. Parking was easy. They've got a simply giant lot out in front on a hard corner. My favorite thing about this store was that they have a giant turkey statue out front. Gobble Gobble, Gobblers!

Since we were in Cuero at the Walmart down the street, we stopped in for a couple of items that Walmart didn't have. The store was beautiful, clean, and very well laid out. Maybe we should have stopped in here first. Anyway, we both found what we were looking for at prices comparable to other big box retailers. The service at the check out was quick and painless as well. The cherry on the cake was grabbing corn dog samples on the way to the check out area. It hit the spot as I hadn't eaten lunch yet. Ha ha! Turned out to be a real cool spot on the rim of Shiner that offers preserved goods and sauces in jars. They're kind of like home-canned goods that are professionally canned. Also, they have a sit down spot inside for ordering some food to stay. A patron recommended getting some to go but circumstances didn't allow it. I pretty much know where everything is, but the few times I've wandered aimlessly looking for something, fellow shoppers -- mostly older & wiser -- have helped me find whatever it is I'm hunting down. I've always preferred small grocery stores to large ones, & I really have a soft spot for this one. Maybe because I grew up in the area, or maybe I just like how leisurely a shopping trip here is; I enjoy my time spent here, & I think it's a nice change of pace from the Walmarts & Targets of the world. A pro-tip: the H-E-B app is a great help for a store as condensed as this one (& any H-E-B in general). Like many other Texans, I made my COVID-19 vaccine appointment through HEB's main website (vaccine.heb.com). After finding a spot available at this pharmacy, I filed out all the information and received a confirmation email. When I got to the pharmacy, the staff was super friendly and already had my name on file. They asked me to fill out an additional form and answered all of our questions related to the Pfizer vaccine. The staff was very nice and even gave my husband additional information on how he could get his vaccine (he is not part of group 1A, 1B or 1C). In just a few minutes I was called to separate room to get my pfizer vaccine and received some additional paperwork with information on side effects. Thank you to the staff for their hard work and for getting Texans vaccinated!

After more than 10 minutes, someone finally came out only to say they were closed and I'd have to come back in the morning. No apology, no attempt to fix the situation, and the manager Jonathan handled it with zero urgency or professionalism. If your team wants to close early, stop accepting pickup orders you clearly don't plan on fulfilling.
