I first used, and my only time so far, the RTA West 25th train station in early September 2024 when…read moremy friend and I went to a Cleveland Guardians (baseball) game. The actual train ride was quick and smooth from the West 25th stop to the Tower City stop. We only sat on the train for about 3-4 minutes because Tower City was the very next train stop. The West 25th station though is abysmal. Since the Yelp page is for the train station stop itself and not the train ride, I'm rating it a 2/5. DECLINING CONDITION -- While the ticket buying process is super quick and easy (buy at a pay station machine), the actual waiting area for the train is terrible. The whole waiting area reeks (smells) of urine. It is also dirty down there. I would not recommend coming here by yourself because it is below ground so it is quiet and you may not feel safe being alone especially at night. I was with a friend when I arrived and there was just one other person there. A few minutes later, others arrived who happened to also be going to a baseball game, as evidenced from their baseball gear (t-shirts). I did not see any train attendant booth here so if you have a question, no one will be able to help you unless you call a staff member on your phone. Thankfully, the whole process in buying a ticket and waiting for a train was very easy so my friend and I did not need help. Besides the smell and old nature of this atop, they do have functioning elevator so if you are handicapped, you will be able to go down to where the train arrives and departs. My friend and I used the stairs since we didn't need to use the elevator. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 98/150 total reviews in 2024 - 747 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 29 September 2024

Quick and efficient…read more I visited the Tower City train station (Public Square stop) in early September 2024 when I went to a Cleveland Guardians baseball game with a friend. We both started at the West 25th Ave. stop at the West Side Market in Ohio City and it only took 1 stop, less than 4 minutes, to get to Tower City. Once inside Tower City, we walked for about 8 minutes inside the walkway that connects to Progressive Field where the Guardians play. Once the game was over, we found the outside door that leads us back into the inside walkway back to the Tower City stop. The actual train station is nice and clean. There are benches to sit on before you get to the area where the train is. Those benches, located right by where you purchase tickets, are super clean. Once you're in the section where the train arrives, there are benches there too but they looked a bit dirty plus that area is slightly dark. I recommend standing and not sitting while waiting for the train, if you can. My friend and I already bought our 1-day RTA pass at the West 25th station but if you need train tickets, you can buy them at the Tower City stop. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 97/150 total reviews in 2024 - 746 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 29 September 2024

The Capitol Limited has two stops daily here(both in the middle of the night), one going to DC the other to Chicago. From there you can literally get a connection to anywhere else in the US and/or Canada. I left my car there for a week and felt relatively safe, I just would make sure valuables were kept out of site

I'm not sure if the other reviews are just outdated, or if the reviewers were just pissed, but…read moretheir reviews are not factual. That's not to say that all of their complaints are without merit... Firstly, this station does have a very nice terminal, however, it looks very new. But, you have to look for it. There are no attendants & it's farther down the track from the main building & the parking lot. Although this may be confusing, it's nothing a little bit of curiosity can't fix. Second, like most other Amtrack stations the Alliance station is on the "bad" side of town. My running theory is that these were nice areas when the infrastructure was originally laid out. But, don't fret too much, moreover, the "bad" side of Alliance is pretty tame compared to most towns. But, my gripes lay with the Amtrack service itself. On paper, leaving Alliance at 1:30am & arriving at Chicago at 8:30am sounds great! Heck, you don't even have to leave town! Further, it comes at about half the cost of a plane ticket with almost none of the hassle - no TSA. I'll even say that the chairs are comfortable, spacious, reclineable , & come with their own AC ports. Then things get sticky.... One, Alliance is somewhat remote so you have to secure your own way to the stop - no Uber or Lyft. I wouldn't leave your car at this location. Two, no one tells you that they leave the "safety lights" on all damn night. The regulars know, moreover, they bring their own sleeping masks. Three, & most importantly Amtrack is prone to delays. There had been some derailments recently when we traveled so we expected some kind of delay, but we sat opposite a couple who traveled Amtrack on a fairly regular basis which informed us that delays are common & routine. If nothing else, Freight Trains have priority over Commuter Trains, which means that Amtrack has to pull over & wait for them to pass. This particular law made us two hours late to Chicago. TLDR: Amtrack can be a convenient & price effective mode of transit IF you know what to look out for, & IF you aren't in a hurry. Ps: Amtrack doesn't do bag checks, so bring as big of a bag as you would like. It just needs to fit into the overhead compartment.

It was, without any comparison, the worse experience with travel, of my adult life. On the Ohio…read moreend, Amtrak employees were completely absent. The station was locked. There were no signs, posted information, no employees to explain train traveling to those with questions, nothing. We got there, and just hoped we were in the right place. It was very nerve wracking. On the Chicago end, forget about it. The employees in the station were rude, unhelpful, arrogant and acted like everything about train travel should have been common knowledge--- "what do you mean you don't know the train starts boarding 30-45 minutes before it is scheduled to leave?" There is no information on the app, none of this is printed on the ticket-- My Aunt handed her ticket to the baggage agent and asked him to please show her where it was explained that her bags had to be checked an hour before boarding; he started reading... his response, "well, it's not clearly stated here, ma'm, but, if you go online ( he circled the website) it will explain all this information." Seriously? Does Amtrak not know they can clearly post all this information IN THE STATION? SOMEWHERE? How about posting all the cities the trains, boarding from each gate, are going to make stops at? "Gate C " Train stops at: South Bend, Indiana, Waterloo, Indiana, This town, Indiana, Toledo, Ohio Sandusky, Ohio Etc." Instead, my daughter and I got downstairs and stoped at the gate that read, "Gates, A, B, C, and D." We thought, okay, this is our line. We stood in that line for about 10 minutes before my daughter realized we were in the wrong place... again, no one in a uniform to ask, and we ran to the other gate C, only to be told by a very rude employee, "Sorry, Ma'm we just closed boarding for this train." Insert SSSSSCCCCCRRREEAAAMMMMMM, here. An image of me punching him dead in the face flashed through my mind. Never again. NEVER. We paid $74 more dollars, waited 3 more hours, and finally got on the 9:30 pm train. Where we FROZE. "Holy Icebox, Batman, we have to help these human popsicles!" Our train car was so cold, people started taking their bags down from the overhead, and putting on clothes over the clothes they were wearing PLUS their blankets. We asked a conductor about it, he said "i'll see if I can turn it down". Apparently, he meant it, because it seemed to get even colder as the night wore on. My bones hurt! It was horrible. My daughter and I were holding each other, while curled up, in our seats, for warmth. I don't know how people travel this way. Even if this was just a one-off for Amtrak, it was such a magnificently bad one, that I will never, willingly, schedule another train trip. Horse and buggy would be better. Motorcycle would be better. TRICYCLES would be better. Nothing, nothing, NOTHING, even comes close to reaching the level of sheer ineptitude and madness that Amtrak occupies. My husband's assessment, there is a reason Amtrak is going bankrupt. I don't know, maybe I'll see if there are any zeppelins heading my way, next time I want to take a trip, to Chicago.
