Grille 55 Downtown - Ribeye Steak, Yams, and Mac-and-Cheese

Starting out with a clarification comment, you are eating inside a nightclub. I can't tell if it…read morestill functions that way or it used to be one, but that's the vibe. The photo they have on their page here is actually hilariously a computer generated rendering. The food was fine. Nothing special. The steak was so heavily (over) seasoned it was pretty salty to be honest. Nothing we had would make us come back just for that. Vibe wise, the music was hypersexual R&B and the bar wall was lined with TVs playing sports. Where Grille 55 shines is really the service. Your bill comes with 18% auto gratuity. For that you get to watch the entire wait staff sit at the bar on their phones and blow huge vape clouds into the dining room. I had to stand up and walk over to get my waitress because despite sitting 10 feet from me, she never checked on us once and we had waited at least 5 minutes for the bill.

A home is where the heart is -- and my visit to Grille 55 Downtown in Cleveland was the epitome of…read morefinding yourself in a home built on love, flavor, and joy, "in the heart of it all." What began as a hopeful attempt to try a recommended meal from a friend ended in a soul-enriching experience I won't soon forget. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a hostess who pulled off what I can only describe as a miracle of logistics and kindness. Despite an estimated hour wait, she managed to seat us in just ten minutes. She gracefully rearranged tables to accommodate my date. I regret not catching her name, because she deserves at least a bouquet, if not a plaque on the wall. The warmth continued from there. Our server, Raven, was more than helpful; she was an oracle of the menu. Each recommendation was delivered with a smile and the confidence of someone who knows greatness when she sees it, or rather when she tastes it. At her suggestion, we ordered the ribeye steak (cooked medium-rare), mac-and-cheese, fries, and yams. Let us begin with the ribeye steak. I don't throw the word perfect around lightly, but this steak? It was seasoned beyond perfection. Tender to the point of disbelief, it yielded effortlessly under the mere weight of a knife. The simple act of gliding it back-and-forth across the meat was enough to produce the most sublime bite. It was as if the steak had agreed, willingly, to be consumed. The sides sang backup harmonies in this meaty ballad. The mac-and-cheese was gooey, nostalgic, and shamelessly comforting. It was the kind of dish that reminds you of who you are and where you came from. The fries were crisp, golden, and wonderfully seasoned. They were a crunchy gift to the tongue. But the yams? No, no, no... these were not yams. These were Yum's -- yes, with an apostrophe, because they possessed the entire meal. Amidst all of this, we met Peppy, a busboy with the efficiency of a Formula 1 pit crew and the charisma of someone destined for greatness. He tidied with speed, answered our questions with grace, and added to the evening's warmth like a well-cast supporting actor. And then... there was Corey: the owner. The man. The myth. The legend. Corey didn't just greet us. He embraced us like old friends. Speaking with him felt less like meeting a restaurateur and more like catching up over Sunday supper. You could feel the love he had for his food, the joy in running his establishment, and the pride he has for his city of Cleveland. He treated us not as patrons, but as guests of honor in his home -- the heart of Grille 55 Downtown. The ambiance, the hospitality, the cuisine... all of it coalesced into an evening that felt less like dinner and more like a celebration. I arrived hungry. I left full -- not just of food, but of joy, comfort, and a satisfying hope in my soul. Would I return? Without hesitation. This wasn't just a dinner. It was a reminder that kindness, flavor, and community still exist, and sometimes, they come with a ribeye and a little bit of soul sprinkled on the side.

There was a wait when I arrived which was fine. The Gospel music playing was exactly what I needed on this good Sunday afternoon. The spot was inviting. The worker knew why I ordered the pan and she whispered to me Im so sorry for your loss. I lost it and she just held me. It was like the best auntie hug. People dont have to be nice and I told her just that. She said God is good and I want you to have a good day. I ordered me a catfish snack pack to go and it was so good. The fries were nice and hot. Yall!!! I'll be back. Believe that!

Sweet beets were, well, sweet and savory and tasty overall. Corn muffin was kinda hard but flavorful. The liver and onions had zero onions at all. It was smothered in a flavorful gravy and overall good but would've been much better with some caramelized onions anywhere. The coleslaw was unexpectedly delicious. Soft lettuce and yet crunchy cabbage mixed created a fantastic texture and it had almost a creamy dressing to it with great flavor. Yum! The entree was $15 which was pretty darn reasonable too.

Twan Jones Fine Dining - The chicken was very flavorless. And they don't take time to at least pluck out the big feathers.
