On June 16th, 2015, I attended this business, intending to mostly window shop. I had been there years before with my brother when he was shopping and I remember that I hadn't been very impressed with the customer service.
The same person who had helped my brother years ago was there on June 16th. From the beginning, I was made to feel out of place. The person / employee / owner, I think he was the owner, but I'm not sure, kept asking me what my price range was. I found the question insulting. I didn't answer it. I've never had a retail experience where I was asked what my price range was. I know that there are some expensive items in the this store, and I felt that the employee / owner was challenging me to prove I was rich enough to be in his store. I did not feel welcomed.
I started trying on a few shirts, wondering about what size I was. The employee told me I was likely an extra large. I never wear extra large. I wear medium, and sometimes large.
I tried on two pairs of pants, one was too big, the other much too small. I told the owner that I was planning to lose weight and didn't mind maybe if something was a little bit tight. He had no response to that.
I found a plaid shirt that I liked quite a bit and tried the extra large. It was too big. I tried the large and while it was a little snug I think it looked good on me. I came out of the changeroom and my brother said "that looks good, better than I thought it would! You look pretty nice!"
The shop owner said "it's a nice shirt" implying that I didn't look good in it, but at least the shirt is a nice shirt.
I don't know why I bought it. I did really like it. I just wanted to leave the store as quickly as possible and never come back. I was extremely upset at the humiliating experience. The next day I wanted to return the shirt for a full refund but their policy only allows for store credit, so I decided to keep it.
I didn't appreciate being called fat and poor; this was truly the worst retail experience of my life and I encourage all of you who read this to think hard about whether you want to spend your money at a store where the owner feels comfortable treating people the way he treated me.
