Academically, most of the teachers are great, but some have literally no idea what they are doing. It's important to note that MBS hires teaching staff who have PHDs in their field, but never learned to be teachers. In fact, my tenth grade chemistry teacher had a PHD in physics, but no chemistry experience past high school and no teaching degree, and he was very open about this. I feel that the dress-code goes beyond what is normal and necessary for a school environment, and stifles self-expression. Teen and pre-teen years are extremely formative in every way, including style, so to force kids to look professional everyday could have poor results. I think it's important to let kids have colorful hair and graphic tees, even if they look ridiculous by some standards. Let kids be kids. In my own opinion, high school should be a time where teenagers are guided along as they discover themselves and who they want to be. At MBS, it seems like we are guided towards a specific path, regardless of ourselves and what we want. If this is the path you're looking for anyway, this school will be your dream. MBS will deliver your stereotypical private school experience. Very shallow, very reputation oriented, very damaging to students that don't fit the bill.

A Pre-K to Learn and Play…read more If you have a need for a Pre-K that uses play based learning in the Morris Plains area then look no further than the Morris Plains Co-Op Playschool. Two different types of parent involvement are offered during the course of the school year, Co-Op or Non-Co-Op. The Non-Co-Op route is pretty much the standard drop your kids off and pick them up at the end of the day experience. This option costs a bit more. The Co-Op route involves helping the teacher of the class about once every 3 weeks on average. This option costs a bit less, but you gain an extra insight as to how your child is interacting in school and how they are developing throughout the year. An invaluable experience if you can afford the time commitments. The teaching staff here are wonderful and are obviously great with kids as evident by all the hugs they get when classes are finished. Afternoon preschool class time is filled with free play, directed art time, rug/circle time, singing, dancing, snack time, and playing. LOTS OF PLAYING! There is play time at the end of class either inside or outside depending on the weather. If the weather is nice, play time will be out on the playground behind the school. If the weather is less than cooperative, the children go downstairs to play in the basement that has been turned into an inside play space safe for little ones to play when their smiles are the biggest. Based on our family experience the Morris Plains Co-Op Playschool is a wonderful place to entrust your little one(s) to while they socialize, learn, and play for a few hours a week.
