He was nervous at first but very quickly made friends he talked about every day. The older students were friendly, and the curriculum is great. Lots of homework. Maybe too much tbh! Also, he used to hold his pencil funny but now his handwriting has improved with the assistance of his elementary school teachers. Now in middle school, we've been happy with the changes at the new building at the boys and girls clubs. Its also important for private schools to know that the fit is important, and we've had our experience at some in the area. I will say that we've had a great experience so far. I was so very disappointed with that charter school. So hopefully Family Life Academy is nothing like HEKETI. NO ONE should send their kids there if they truly care and love them. I took my kids out of Public School and they were making such great grades there. I still wanted something better for my kids. But I was not at all satisfied with HEKETI. Parents make sure you take your time and choose the right school for your kids. My kids were so very unhappy at that Heketi Charter school. The school absolutely prepares you for college because Bronx Science kids are expected to meet incredibly high standards and deal with great demands. For all future students, take care to pack ONLY the necessities for school because it's a really long ride up if you don't live in the Bronx. Also, I recommend investing in a good computer scanner and lots of folders to stay organized for both academic as well as extracurricular ventures. This might be a little extreme, but retain the number of a reliable car service and carry emergency cab money on hand for safety's sake. Like the other reviewers, yes be careful of the students from DeWitt Clinton High School. They were never friendly and often acted in a hostile/threatening fashion whenever they encountered Bronx Science kids. I can't tell you how many times we had to deal with their racial slurs (because a majority of the student population come from an Asian-American background) and hatefulness.

The reason why this place get's an AOK was because the student body opted for using additional funds for a mural in the main lobby instead of renovating the gym and possibly getting a pool. La Scuola is absolutely comparable to them and I am happy to add that the Faculty is caring, enthusiastic and very attentive to each and every need of the kids. The bi-lingual education (+ French as a third language) is an incredible plus, and also for an American student it is a great privilege to read immortal authors in their own languages, English, Italian, French or Latin. The International Baccalaureate Diploma, also, is a great opportunity for kids to challenge themselves (and la Scuola is among the very few schools in NYC to offer it!) and an effective boost for the most important College Institutions around the world. Last but not least: at La Scuola, kids did not loose a single hour, due to the pandemic. They immediately set up a perfect environment for online schooling, and since the reopening in Sept 2020 they are at school in person.
