I lived at Bromley Hall my freshman and sophomore years. Made some great friends, many of which I still hangout with... I'm not sure where Chella G. was really staying, but the food at Bromley was (is?) much better than she describes. And, the cafeteria is open at least 3 hours for each meal (I just checked their website). Funny she also mentions the elevators. LOL! Those are some good stories :-) It sure was excellent to have weekly (or was it every other week?) maid service. The private bathrooms made the decision easy for me, did't have to share the shower with the entire floor! read more

Bromley Hall - University Housing Near Me - Champaign, Illinois

I lived here my freshman year, and it definitely wasn't my favorite. The rooms are big, so at first Bromley felt like a good deal. However, I quickly learned that the walls are thin (probably just two sheets of drywall), and you can hear *every* sound from the room next door. Even on weeknights, students often yelled and ran through the halls at 3 or 4 am. As an engineer, I had 8:00 calculus most mornings. So, I found it impossible to get much sleep, and I often found myself sleeping in friends' apartments, instead. If your goal is to party constantly, this is your dorm. If you're interested in getting some sleep, Bromley Hall is not your best bet. read more

I had the pleasure of being a resident of Bromley Hall this past year. The food service offers great variety and quality product. The staff was excellent and very accommodating to requests of the residents. One of my favorite perks was the option to grab a to-go lunch if I had to run to class in a hurry. I enjoyed thoroughly the flexibility of the staff/management in the room selection process as well. I wanted to live with my friends and Bromley was able to put us all together as I had hoped they would. Unlike University Housing, Bromley offers premium amenities. Whenever I felt like getting a quick workout in, it was so simple to take a quick elevator ride to the fitness center. No other residence hall offers an indoor pool either. The stress and dread of move-in/move-out was quick and easy. There were multiple assistants to help load all of my things and the entire process took maybe an hour. If I were to have to go through the whole process again, I would look no further than Bromley Hall. There is a reason that it fills up every academic year. read more

Any meat is consistently undercooked, isn't as versatile as public housing options, and have gotten food poisoning several times. Meals were promised to change because they were so bad but haven't and I wouldn't recommend anyone choose this as their dining hall to frequent. read more

3 stars for the building, 5 stars for the memories! I lived here my freshman year of college ('98-99) and still can't figure out why I did. There were private suites and bathrooms, along with housekeeping service, so I don't know why it was always so dirty. Cafeteria was open about 2 hours/day and served the same 3 disgusting meals. There were elevators, which worked about half of the time and always guaranteed an interesting ride with 35 of your closest friends. Climbing the stairs back up to the 13th floor wasn't quite as exciting however. But I lived away from home for the first time and had a lot of fun. I grew up here and learned how much liquor my body could really hold. The best memory ever: the holiday lights spectacular. A highly organized group of engineers on the 12th floor set up a Wheel of Fortune-Live From Chambana game. Everyone headed across the street to Acacia fraternity's front yard to enjoy the "light show." The Wheel of Fortune theme song poured out of the building and we all yelled out the special message written across the top windows--"Fuck Bromley!" Man, I miss those days. read more

Bromley Hall might possibly be the worst place to live on Campus. I lived here my freshman year and it was brutal. The food was awful and the staff was even worse (besides maintenance). The kitchen staff is grumpy, rude, and refuses to give you the amount of food you want. Also, the kitchen had horrible hours and only serve their bad food for a few hours. Now let's talk about the RA's and administrative staff. They feel they had to babysit our rooms and RA's from other floors will come to bust you because they have nothing better to do. In Bromley, probably most people have drugs in their room, but it still doesn't stop Bromley from being absolutely tweaked about it. Overpriced as shit to receive bad food and horrible staff. Rooms literally had mold in here and windows are really difficult to open. Finally, the AC and heat takes them 2 weeks to turn on each time so it is burning hot or freezing for about a month of the year. The elevators suck and are super slow. Housekeeping never came to clean my room. This place sucks, don't live here. Fuck Bromley Hall. read more

Coming from a resident of Bromley I'd have to say I'm highly disappointed. The room sizes and private bathrooms are about the only things that make living here worth it. The wifi varies from room to room which results in some residents receiving a stable connection while others (like myself) stuck waiting 5-10 min for a page to refresh. When it comes to rooms as a resident you have no choice, you are assigned a room and have to hope you have decent wifi (or a wired connection). The food has improved from past years from what I have heard, however, many of the items served taste bland or have no taste at all. On the topic of food, the times at which food is served are horrible! Dinner goes from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm and past those times you have absolutely no way of eating unless you go out. Being that you only get 3 swipes per weekday if you wanted to take home a lunch that is already prepared (Keep in mind the take-home lunches usually only consist of a sandwich, water, and your choice of either chips OR some type of sweet) you must sacrifice one of those swipes. "What if I miss breakfast? Could I use that breakfast swipe in order to get a take home lunch for later and still go to lunch and dinner?" NOPE!! Once you miss a meal that's it. You are not able to use that swipe for anything else. The walls are thin as well which results in hearing pretty much every other resident coming home (some intoxicated) which can be an annoyance especially when you have to wake up early. The atmosphere is decent and people are usually kind but I've seen my fair share of damage done by intoxicated individuals which resulted in a messy hallway. read more

THE BROM!! I absolutely loved living here! I don't think you could find a more welcoming environment for student living, especially for freshman & sophomores. I came to the U of I wthout knowing anyone and quickly bonded with everyone on my floor. A lot of the friendships I made still remain close today. The rooms are what you make of them. Defintely the largest dorm space I saw on campus. We lofted both beds creating a space for a futon, and additonal room for an extra mini-fridge. 2 guys, closet space wasn't much of an issue, but large enough that ours looked somewhat bare with our "lackluster" wardrobe. As far as the food, I personally enjoyed it, (lived here 2003). I don't think you're really hungry if you can't find something to eat there. My younger sister lived there last year and it looked like more changes had been made. A panini maker and more of a self service line. I would suggest that they add unique stations according to certain "genres" off food. An italian place, pizza, pasta, bread. An American Grill Burgers, Dogs, Etc. and a veggie alternative. I think the opportunity to choose breaks up the mundane line that makes you feel as if you're eating the same thing. Overall all though I absolutely loved living there. The sixth floor holds a lot of good memories, definitely created the foundation for an incredible experience at U of I. read more

Be very careful before signing a contract to hold a spot for a potential incoming student. There is a $300 cancellation fee. Other private housing at other universities tend to charge $50 to $100 to "hold" a spot so long as you cancel relatively early (before May 1 for example). Not Bromley! They charge $300. This is outrageous. I cancelled my son's contract in February after he decided to attend another university. This was far before many students even were admitted or the housing was finalized. This place takes advantage of the situation. read more
