Great customer service. I placed my order online through Grubhub not knowing the difference between their website and the latter. I identified myself, picked up my food, paid and drove away. A few minutes later I received a call letting me know I was given the wrong order. I turned around and went in, apologized as the young lady explained the mix up to me. I had heard that there was a special technique to make super moist fried chicken, and so I came to this restaurant expecting some bombass fried chicken, unlike anything I've had at KFC or Ralph's. I was not disappointed! My favorite piece was the breast. Even though it was white meat, it was as moist as you would expect a dark meat portion to be! This low-key establishment prepares your chicken upon ordering, so expect a wait. I ordered the No. 2 Dinner special and it took about 15 minutes, but there was only one other party in the restaurant when we ordered. The No. 2 Dinner special came with a good portion of cole slaw, 2 decent dinner rolls, and some giant potato wedges. I read somewhere that the potato wedges were also cooked using the same method as their chicken. The wedges different tasted different from other wedges I've tried. the "meat" of the wedge is soft and actually falls away from the potato skin, which is crispy. I was visiting my parents and we were looking for a place to pick up dinner on a Sunday night. I remembered we used to go to Broaster Kitchen all the time, but I hadn't been there in probably 20 years, so I was excited to give it a try. I looked at the menu and it looked the same from what I could remember. We got the 10x10, which is 10 pieces of chicken and 10 potatoes. We also got some chicken tenders and fries for the kids. When I called, I was told they were busy and it would be 40 minutes. That was fine with me. The order was ready on time when I picked it up. The chicken was super juicy and the skin was crispy. I'm not sure if something changed, but the chicken was even better than what I remembered. Usually, when I go back to get food from where I grew up, I'm disappointed as nothing is as good as I remembered. For one this place IS still very dated and still only excepts cash ( my guess to trick the IRS) But after today I will NO longer come back. Long story short. I spent $32+ on a 16 piece chicken. Only to get 4 chicken legs that were the size of chicken drumettes , and 4 chicken breasts that literally fit on the palm of my hand. My husband and I have driven by this restaurant numerous times. Today we decided to check the Yelp reviews and walk in. Wow!! The food by far exceeded any expectations that I had. The chicken and potatoes are "broasted." I'm not quite sure what that means, other than delicious!! We usually go to Popeyes for fried chicken (don't judge me), and we certainly won't be going back. The chicken is so juicy, fresh, and full of so much flavor. The coleslaw looked a little soggy at first, but it ended up being perfect. I used to eat here with my girlfriend at the time. She lived fairly close to this establishment and introduced me to it. I like Broaster Kitchen. The chicken is tender, juicy and made fresh after you order it. The prices are a good value compared to other "broasted" chicken places I've been to. The broasted potatoes are large wedges. Those are the main items I eat when I visit this place. The place looks like it's been there for 30 years, but you come here for the food (4 stars for the chicken), not the atmosphere. Whenever I went to this place, there was almost always a short line which is a testament to it's food, so don't listen to Tony C., try it for yourself then decide. FYI. I found this info on the web: The Broasting process makes chicken that has the taste of fried chicken, but is moister and less greasy. According to the company, Broaster Chicken has "a crispy, nutty golden-brown coating,... tender and juicy deep down to the bone." Any business that can last over 30 years MUST be doing something right. Broaster's is run by mother and son and seems like a very well run family business. The interior isnt much and definitely not good for group gatherings. (-1) I called in and ordered take out: I had the Regular Mixed Lunch Special. It came with 1-leg, 2-breasts, 3 large potatoes (wedges), cole slaw, and dinner role. Damage = $6.27. Cheap cheap lunch. The Chicken isnt sitting under a heat lamp and is fried as soon as you order it. The picture isnt much to look at, but as soon as you take that first bite........JUICY and very tasty! The chicken isn't over battered like KFC and it's full of meat. The wedges are huge and filling. I loved the cole slaw too. I do prefer a buttermilk biscuit and honey over the dinner roll though. I'm not much of a pie guy, so I didnt care for it. But come on Tony C! "Homemade" is used so loosely nowadays. Even Marie Calenders claim their food is "Homemade". The fried chicken here is one of the best I've had. The breading is light and crispy. Delicious. My friend and I shared a 16 piece and almost finished it all there. I love everything about this place. It's so unassuming. No pretentious BS. The server out front was very nice and attentive. She reflects positively on management's ability to hire the right people. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Lucky for me and my waistline, I live a ways from here. Otherwise I'd probably be here weekly. Their pies looked delicious as well. I decided trying this place after I read up about this place. This restaurant is located in Montebello in a small plaza. You can dine in or like most people, order to go. Since it is a mom and pop place with limited staff, I recommend ordering before you come in. They cook it to order so it may take long. The chicken was moist and had a good flavor. I didn't particularly like the big potato wedges because I prefer fries. The cole slaw was pretty good. They also offer a good variety of home made pies. Make sure to try it out. read more

My memories of this place was that the chicken was always delicious and I can say that it as good if not better than my memories. After passing by this hole in the wall for years I finally tried the chicken (and food) from here a number of times the past year & a half. As soon as one walks inside they are welcomed to the scent of freshly broasted chicken being cooked to order and the elegant set up where one orders. [SUMMARY AT BOTTOM OF THE REVIEW] THE GOOD While the main appeal of the restaurant is the chicken, there are plenty of other options to choose from: Hamburgers, Ribs, Fries, Potato Spuds, Salads, and Pies. There's also seafood options for those who are looking to get some Fish & Chips or Shrimp. Though for those looking specifically for chicken, fear not as they offer lunch/dinner dishes that feature a breast or a couple of pieces of chicken with a side and mostly come accommodated with a bread roll for prices under $5 (except the leg lunch that is $6 - as of the posting of this review). Broaster also has Chicken "Paks" where the customer can choose a number of pieces, build their own "pak", or a set of hot wings. Family specials are similar but come with a side of coleslaw, spuds, and rolls! Now the taste of the chicken is great because the flavor is very unique which is difficult to compare to others because of the (family) recipe that I assume has been perfected for the past 49 years (2019). The moment the chicken comes out of the kitchen it is served onto your plate and adds onto the tastiness of the chicken because it is so fresh off the press. The same goes for other cooked sides such as the spuds. The coleslaw tastes great too though I am unsure when that is made; the roll is average. Most of the time, Service is great and not monotone (see the cons of service under). Broaster takes orders on the phone and offers pretty good hours on when they are open. Apparently Broaster also offers delivery (according to yelp) for an extra fee. THE BAD & UGLY Now the downfalls of Broaster are many, but lets begin with the wait time - every time I visited Broaster Chicken I timed how long it would take for myself to get my meal from the moment I received my receipt to the moment the dinner was handed/brought to me which brought me to the average of 23 minutes; given I would mainly order the mini lunch which was a leg, thigh, and coleslaw. While one can argue that it is freshness that takes that long, the wait it still pretty long to wait for 2 pieces. The other thing is that these pieces are not that big to begin with - there is a big difference when comparing it to other chicken [pics attached for scale]. Looking at the menu can be a chore as well because the digital screen that is places behind the counter/register (probably 7 to 10 feet away) has the text so small even someone like myself who wears an up to date prescription of glasses has trouble making out what is on the menu; you're better off zooming in and taking a picture of it on your phone if they don't have any to-go menus available. Some people say they never finished their fries before until they came to Broaster and I can see why - the portions in general aren't big, even for the bigger meals I've had. One may need a couple of pieces to get full. Another thing is the interior is just not inviting to eat inside of - it recently got remodeled but it almost seems like it was a bit counterproductive which reversed the welcoming & somewhat (country) themed environment it once had. It's very plain, dull, and somewhat depressing if you're eating there alone (which it mostly is lonely in there) just watching the TV. It's almost as if the contractor either did a half-assed job of remodeling, dropped the project mid-way, or just an uninspiring remodeling decision. Unless you're just going to wash your hands, don't even dare to enter the restroom because it almost seems like it's a storage for their cleaning materials. The location that Broaster is located in can be pretty easy to miss since it blends in with everything next to it in the small strip mall; parking may be a hassle because how limited it is but it doesn't always pose a problem. Lastly, the service is hit or miss depending on who is working the day of visiting, mostly hit but also some misses. It seems like family works there (with what appear like younger teenagers at the register/serving) with the occasional pop in of other (most likely non-related) employees but it is hard to not notice how there is almost always a "help wanted" sign posted which may or may not heed signs of something deeper. Summary: Pros -Tastes Great -Prices Fairly Good/Value -Very Fresh -Variety of related food options -Meals and Chicken "Paks"/bundles offered -Offers delivery for extra fee with $10 purchase (according to Yelp) Cons -Extremely long wait times even for 2 pieces of Chicken -Depressing environment -Menu not very accessible because text is so small -Small portions/pieces -Location and parking can make it hard for people to access/find -Hit or Miss Service depending on who's working the day of visit read more
