Pictures upon pictures. I have extremely curly hair and it looks wildly different when wet than dry. I had pictures of what I wanted, and what I didn't want, how it shrinks when dry, and so forth. I appreciated her tips and tricks, however, when it came to the actual cut I feel like I did not get what I wanted. I specifically asked for a stacked, inverted bob. I don't have that and I feel like at this point I am going to have to grow my hair back out to get what I wanted. The cut is even, looks nice and I have received compliments, the problem is it isn't what I wanted, so I feel let down.

After several bad experiences with stylists here I gave up and only got my hair done when I flew back "home" to Los Angeles. Meeting Ustena changed all that. She's just as good (maybe even better, especially with doing color) than my L.A. stylist who I'd loyally gone to for 7yrs. Ustena knows hair better than anyone I've ever met... she's so passionate about it. She's also full of great advice and won't fry your hair just because your heart is set on a certain color (I find this commendable). Ustena genuinely cares about her clients and while her methods may be a tad unconventional, all appointments involve lots of talking so be prepared to spend some time here, she takes a personal interest in her clients and really gets to know you. While I like her approach and love spending time here, it's the few moments/hours of "me" time I get I can see how this may not be for everyone. (However even if you want something fast, I highly recommend you give her process a chance and then make a decision based on your haircare results, it'll be worth it!) Your first appointment you actually discuss your hair type/needs/desires/etc...you're definitely going to spend the better part of a day here but it's well worth it.... besides how many people can say their stylist cares enough to teach them about their own hair care? It's not just hair care either, Ustena showed me how to use bobby pins correctly... this may not sound super exciting, but I have silky/baby fine hair so bobby pins have always slipped right out. Ustena showed me how to use them the "right" way and it's transformed my daily styling options. Since I've met Ustena I won't go to anyone else for hair color. No one else could do it as well. When I wanted to transition from highlights, to a more blondish color, I brought in a bunch of photos to show her. She looked at the photos with me, asked questions and then came up with a color that was better than anything I'd brought in. Ustena is brilliant. A master of her craft. And I don't say that lightly. I'm so picky that I used to fly to Los Angeles to get my hair done and I'm thrilled that not only do I have a stylist I love here but I didn't settle either - she's awesome :)

One of the girls who came with me did a full color and cut. She was in the chair at 9am, the next girl at 9:45am while the color set, and I sat down at 10:05am. After his haircut, they asked if he would be returning, and he said that he may return in a few months. They then asked if he wanted to return a month from that day. He said he might be back sometime around then. (Really he just didn't like his haircut, and he had a hard time communicating that. That part is NOT the salon's fault.) Here is where things went wrong with the salon: They booked him for the appointment, which he DID NOT ASK FOR. Received 0 texts confirming this "appointment" in advance, and they charged us $34 to my card for a no show appointment HE DID NOT ASK FOR. Receiving this charge, we were obviously confused. I emailed directly with the owner to settle this. First they "don't have any record of this charge". Then they "do have it on record, and say it was for his haircut he went in for" Not true. He paid for this haircut in person the same day he got it. Then it's "Well he had an appointment, and he didn't show up. We can't issue you a full refund." Dealt with this for WEEKS now. I have been going to this Cost Cutters location for a while and have always had good experiences,…read morebut unfortunately my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. I walked in around 2:15 PM for a haircut and was received by a middle-aged African-American man, approximately in his 40s. From the very beginning, the interaction felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. When I tried to explain the type of haircut I wanted, he did not let me finish my sentence and immediately started trimming with clippers. I repeatedly told him that I did not want a fade and only needed a mild trim to make my hair neat, but he kept cutting until I had to insist several times before he stopped. Despite this, he continued cutting and ended up giving me a much shorter buzz cut than what I had asked for. At no point did he ask what length I preferred. His manner throughout the haircut was rushed, dismissive, and borderline aggressive. His body language felt intimidating, and he smelled strongly of smoke, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. Because of how rude and abrupt he was, I didn't feel safe confronting him directly during the haircut. To make things worse, the edges and lines were uneven; the very reason I came in for a trim in the first place. When I pointed this out, he attempted to fix it, but only in a half-hearted, careless way. He removed the cape in a rude manner in the and remain unprofessional, without asking if it was good or not, just walked away from there, as if he own this world, and doesn't care about anything. This was, without exaggeration, the worst haircut experience I have had in my adult life, both in terms of the haircut itself and the behavior of the stylist. I hope Cost Cutters management takes this seriously. I strongly recommend improving hiring and screening practices, as service from someone with this level of unprofessionalism can quickly drive loyal customers away. I have always trusted this location, but this experience makes me reconsider returning.
