This is one of the oldest market squares in the country and it is not used to it's full potential. These days a lot of the stalls are quite samey - fruit and veg, mobile phones, cheap clothes and the Bric a Brac day which used to be very good is now just embarrasingly jumble sale. There is a good butcher and fishmonger who comes ocassionally though, however the days are a bit hit and miss!

Portions are not huge, but food is always fresh. I love eating there and it I'd always busy.

Anyway back with the review, Gt News is apart of the Spar now and along with selling papers, magazines etc they sell food products, such as bread, milk, tinned items, cereals etc. They also have a hot food table top counter thing that sells pasties and sausage rolls etc .really yummy but oh so fattening. They sell confectionary, crisps and drinks also. On a sunday morning though they always seem to be busy and yet there is only ever one person working, i always feel sorry for that person and also me for having to queue for what seems like ages but actually is only about 5-10 mins. They have a great selection of papers and mags, and we always get our regular ones, and have never had a problem with them not having stock etc. They are also located on the main road where all the bus stops are so is very convient for people commuting to and from work. They also sell the lottery, ciggeretts and some medication for eg. cough mixture and tablets

They also sell fresh ice-cream and deli products, such as olives. This is a lovely cafe to go with friends - I tried taking my children here, but getting a buggy in is impossible, and I was very concious of their volume. Nice and comfy seats - great to sit with a paper and have a quiet read. Down side - the staff aren't that chatty and friendly unless they know you. Still a positive rating though as it is 'nice'.

The WH Smiths in Milton Keynes is quite big and stocks your usual books, magazines, papers,…read morestationary and music. They are also very helpful and will order in any books which you want which is great. With the Woolworths closing down this is the place for stationary in Milton Keynes and they often have offers on, especially around the beginning of school terms. I do find WH Smiths more expensive than other places, such as supermarkets and the gone Woolworths, but everything is of an excellent quality, so there is no false economy there. They do sometimes have books signings, but not that often. All the staff are nice and helpful, plus they stock chocolates bonus!

Upstairs which is my favourite part of the store to visit you can find all the stationary you could possibly need, notebooks, diaries and anything you could need to keep yourself organised. They also sell music CD's, blank CD's, arts and craft activities ect This store is nice and spacious, it is my favourite store to visit and the staff are really very nice.

The shop is great for a massive discount but not really for searching for a most wanted book. Also available at 'The Works' are celebrity calenders, postcards, posters and for some reason lots of books about Steam Railways?! The shop often is very disorganised, with some items not really displayed but merely plonked down in their original packaging with the top ripped open. However, the shop is good for childrens books, big floppy paperbacks that kids love. It does seem quite a kids orientated shop actually, running all over the place whenever I've passed. The best thing about the shop is its location. The shop is situated right in the heart of the town centre, literally probably the most central shop in the town. A good shop for Christmas when you dont know what to buy for presents!

I find the magazine section in this store is probably the best in town and I have never yet not found a particular magazine that I was looking for in this branch. The store is very well laid out and always looks tidy. It has a pleasant atmosphere too. This is one of the best WH Smith stores in the area mainly because the range of products is so high and the store is large which stops it becoming cluttered looking. The prices are not too expensive, although not the cheapest place to buy stationery, but if you are looking to buy a range of stationery related products then you may be able to get them under one roof here to save time shopping around.

The strength of the store is its magazine selection and book deals. I think the DVD and CD selection is weaker because those products are such a competitive market with Zavvi and HMV usually cheaper and located close by.
