This was another accidental discovery. Mr. Snarky and I had made a plan to grab some lunch, then get groceries. We try not to shop when we're hungry because we usually end up buying much more than we need and because I get hangry. You don't want to see me hangry. Anyway, Mr. Snarky had looked up a pub just on the other side of the West Swindon Centre, which was convenient since we would be going there for groceries.
We walked through the West Swindon Centre to the other side and the pub wasn't what we expected, so we ended up leaving as quickly as we walked in. As we were leaving, we noticed there was a fish and chip shop. So we decided to give it a try. It wasn't raining outside, so we could have sat on a bench, but we decided to eat in since there were a few tables. The place certainly looks like your average fish and chip shop and the menu is pretty standard... although they now do breakfast. They also have some fish specials like Salmon, Swordfish, and Tuna steaks. Haven't seen that at a chip shop before. Prices seemed pretty standard.
Mr. Snarky ordered the cod and chips and I had the haddock and chips. While we were sitting at a table waiting, the staff were a bit loud talking about what they were doing after work. Even though it was a bit amusing, I am sure that might put some people off. Our food came fairly quickly. The fish was quite nice and the batter was light and crispy. The chips... well they were a bit stale. I think because we were on the later side of the lunch hour, we may have gotten the leftovers from lunch. Probably a good thing we didn't get a large portion as we did leave quite a bit of chips on the plate. We had standard portions... fish was still quite large and there were a lot of chips... I dread to think what the large portion looks like. Overall, we really enjoyed the fish and found the prices reasonable, but let's just hope if we go again that they have some fresh chips. read more
