Our experience here was similar to others', where we were greeted with silence and the dude who helped us was... not very... friendly. We picked what we wanted and stood awkwardly by the register, waiting to check out. We managed to get a thank you from him though, after boisterously thanking him for his help. Oh well! They had a great selection of British treats and the prices were cheaper than what you'd normally need to pay for them elsewhere (like the international aisle of stop and shop, for example). There's a whole wall of expired goodies, of which we snagged a few because they were clearance price and still yummy chocolates. Be sure to read date formatting as DD-MM-YY! It's a shame they're not friendlier; we might visit more if there was conversation or ex-pat camaraderie to be had. As it stands, we'll visit every now and then whenever we get the craving for tea cakes or digestives :)

OK, so it seems like a lot of people have had poor experiences online, but I love this place. First, although I have seen recently expired goods on the shelves, I think people who are saying they got stuff that's months old might be misreading British-style dates: 3/8/17 would be the 3rd August, 2017, *not* March 8, 2017. Second, man, do they have a lot of candy. I'm English (moved here 2003) and crave Dairy Milk, and they have lots of different types. I also live for Maltesers; they have those too. I'd be hard-pressed to find candy they don't have, although stock does vary. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, the store's decor is unimpressive. But this place is awesome. (They also have a bunch of other British foodstuffs, cosmetics, other things, but, really, who needs British body wash? It's aalllllll about the candy.)

I was there just last week and a middle aged "lady" noticed that I was having difficulty finding an item (lite soy, not low sodium). She politely approached and said "you look very lost, what are you looking for?" She spent about 10 minutes helping me with finding the item....plus she gave me some great tips on shopping Asian markets. Now I am in my middle 80s and am well aware of the Asian culture having great "respect" for elders..(sorely absent in today's America) however, my encounter tells me she was just a "very nice person" and would have assisted almost anyon....again...Thank You!

The benefit is quicker shopping, smaller line, personal attention and shorter distance to drive which saves time, money and traffic. Price is competitive with with other local markets and sometimes less. This has all the qualities of a local convenience store, but without the rudeness often found these days. The people working in the store do their job, they are helpful and the shelves are well stocked. Worth checking out.

I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.
