I've never had a problem with the service or products when I buy in person at their brick-and-mortar shop. They're clearly mostly busy with shipping to companies in the larger back areas. A number of sauces, though not what I've ever been looking for. Huge candy selection (including Jammie Dodgers and Jelly Babies for the Whovians). Good range of preserves and jams. Holiday items tend to persist for a long time after the holidays so long as the food sell-by isn't past. A small selection of tchotchkes and sodas are also sold. read more

I came wandering in looking for tea and some snacks to cheer up a friend. This place didn't disappoint on interesting things to comb through.It had some interesting packaged snacks and beautifully packaged teas. There was also other frozen products like meat pies. I haven't been to London/Great Britain so wasn't sure what I was looking for. It's worth dropping if you're interested in trying new snacks. read more

Can't understand the negativity. I've been looking for decent British marmalade for a long time now, as the supermarket supply seems to have disappeared. They have a large selection (including Mamade, if I want to make my own) and the laid-back clerk was more than cordial answering my questions and dealing with my poor math. The store has no ambiance, but that's not why you go there. They do a large wholesale business and the store seems to be a small retail outlet, but they have a large selection of teas, spreads, sweets, and Indian foods. So glad I made the trek out to Westford. I shall return. read more

Our experience here was similar to others', where we were greeted with silence and the dude who helped us was... not very... friendly. We picked what we wanted and stood awkwardly by the register, waiting to check out. We managed to get a thank you from him though, after boisterously thanking him for his help. Oh well! They had a great selection of British treats and the prices were cheaper than what you'd normally need to pay for them elsewhere (like the international aisle of stop and shop, for example). There's a whole wall of expired goodies, of which we snagged a few because they were clearance price and still yummy chocolates. Be sure to read date formatting as DD-MM-YY! It's a shame they're not friendlier; we might visit more if there was conversation or ex-pat camaraderie to be had. As it stands, we'll visit every now and then whenever we get the craving for tea cakes or digestives :) read more

Such a fun, kitchy shop. I love walking by to see the changing window. We have the waving solar queen at several locations in our offices. It makes everyone smile. If you are looking for a fun gift or some genuine high quality British wear, then this is a great place to check out. It's located in the heart of Market Square so parking can be a challenge. But the walk down any of Portsmouth's historic avenues is a wonderful experience on it's own. Check this place out! read more

Service is lackluster and the shop is no frills. But interesting. Chock full of candies, teas, knick knacks. Something for anyone wanting a British fix. Prepping for a London trip, got the cream, jam and teas for an afternoon tea with my Zumbies! Picked up some meat and pork pies. The fridge may not be tempered well - there seems to be a little bit freezer burn... but got bangers - looking forward to cooking these up. read more

I have been going here for years and they never disappoint! As a British person I particularly missed my chocolates from England so I was happy to come across this gem of a store! They always have great collection of stuff and manage to keep it reasonably priced. Always manage to stock up on British stuff. Some of the other reviews seem to be overly sensitive. Word of explanation as to why only 4 Stars: I rarely give out five on the general principle that there's always room for improvement. Other than that I enjoy the selection of English goods many of which bring back great memories. I agree that at check out time one has to look for assistance but i think their primary focus is on wholesale not retail. If no one shows up within a minute or two, I just step back to the entrance to their back room and do a "John Peel!" "Hallo!!" And someone quickly appears. I agree that the person who seems to come most times I go, is not the friendliest. It really doesn't hurt the facial muscles or vocal chords to smile and say, "Hallo!" "Thank you" and "Good-bye" (I don't need the "Have a good day!" response.) read more

OK, so it seems like a lot of people have had poor experiences online, but I love this place. First, although I have seen recently expired goods on the shelves, I think people who are saying they got stuff that's months old might be misreading British-style dates: 3/8/17 would be the 3rd August, 2017, *not* March 8, 2017. Second, man, do they have a lot of candy. I'm English (moved here 2003) and crave Dairy Milk, and they have lots of different types. I also live for Maltesers; they have those too. I'd be hard-pressed to find candy they don't have, although stock does vary. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, the store's decor is unimpressive. But this place is awesome. (They also have a bunch of other British foodstuffs, cosmetics, other things, but, really, who needs British body wash? It's aalllllll about the candy.) read more

Well. I was excited when I spoke to someone regarding this situation once she assured me that my order would be replaced. The replacement order was to ship out 10 days ago and still nothing delivered. I have emailed them several times inquiring about this order and no one is responding. I guess the person I spoke with who assured me she would be personally handling the customer service is either no longer there or just told me what I wanted to hear with no intention of resolving the issue. So unfortunately I need to update my review AGAIN! Prior Review: I am updating my review as someone else from British Delights contacted me and did end up resolving this situation for me. They are replacing the damaged items and apologized for the treatment and response I received from the person I was originally dealing with. I respect a company who will admit a mistake and work to correct it. Original Review: I have been a loyal and steady customer for years and recently ordered frozen foods which I have done in the past. This order was shipped with 2 small ice packs and no dry ice. The frozen goods came warm and slimy. When I emailed to complain and asked them to replace my items (valued around $45) they refused telling me the package was shipped properly. When I told them it wasn't they then said I was outside of the 48 hour window so won't replace the items. Are you kidding me? This is the one and only time I have asked them to replace an item they failed to ship properly and that's their response? Disgraceful. It's obvious they do not stand behind their products and have no level of customer service. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this store. A friend introduced me to PG TIPS tea and I'm hooked. It gets very dark like coffee when tea bags are put into a cup and let to steep. Really great flavor and not weak like American tea. No wonder the BRITS drink so much tea. Also, like the various chocolates and candies they offer. We came across this store over a year ago now and have been shopping here every 2-3 weeks ever since. Being from England I am so happy to have this store here. We live 25-30 mins away so driving here isn't a problem for us. The staff have always been kind and helpful. They have all the essentials us brits need. We make bi-monthly trips here to stock up on PG tips tea. They have a wide selection of teas from England. They have a wide selection of candies, biscuits, and drinks, too. Looking for Irn Bru? Got it. Looking for Robinson's Squash? Yup. Bendicks Bittermints? Yes, and try them. It's not a usual storefront. It's more a storehouse for the internet business the company does. When the need for authentic Jelly Babies arises, that need must be met. I searched several stores around the Boston area, and while some of them had some British Sweets, there were no Jelly Babies to be found. Then, I remembered this store (I drive past it on my way to and from work), and decided to check it out. As others have noted, the decor is spartan, as it is a small storefront to their larger internet/mail-order warehouse, but their selection is unmatched. So many tempting tasty things, but I stayed strong, and emerged victorious with my bag of Jelly Babies. I suspect my willpower will eventually fade, and I will find myself back here. read more

This place moved from Billerica to Westford a couple years ago. The new location is more attractive, but the inside is still pretty bare bones. I think most of their business is mail order. Anyway, I don't really care what it looks like. Be aware, however, that from the outside it often looks closed. You drive up, the parking lot is empty, the building looks kinda dark. But, check the door, it's probably open! Inside, you have a little mini grocery store. I'm not from the UK, but there are a few things I have to have now and then and this fills the need. I get my Barry's Irish Breakfast tea and my "Yorkie - It's Not for Girls "chocolate, and humbugs here. If you've never had a humbug, you have to try one. Minty hard candy on the outside, chewy center. Yum. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS!! I had placed an order for some crisps over the phone which was excruciating as their customer service rep had me repeat my name and address multiple times. Apparently, she still transcribed it incorrectly. A month later, I still had not received my order but I did receive a charge on my card for both the product and a penalty charge for providing them with my "wrong address". I called to complain and they made good by finally sending the crisps. I was told the wrong address charge would be refunded as it was a mistake on their end. Called to follow up - no response. I filed a complaint with BBB and received a response promising to issue a refund. No refund was ever issued. I've called and emailed numerous times - no response, no refund. This all took HOURS out of my life that I will never get back. Screw you British Delights!!! read more

Um...unfortunately, this place isn't in Chelmsford, but is in Billerica, MA. In any case, it is a pretty good place, but hard to navigate as it's like a business office forced into a store. So it is tight quarters and difficult to look around. If you get a lot of stuff, it can be really cumbersome, as the employee then has to tally up what you got and it can take a while. That's the negative stuff, but it's a fun place and obviously you can't find a lot of this stuff in the supermarket, especially in a place like Billerica, so it's a fun place even just to look around, but it would do wonders for their business, if they had a bit more space, or simply changed the layout of the current spot. That said...while I liked this place about 3 years ago, I'm not sure if it has moved as I can't find it online, just a location in Westford. read more

Stay far away. Put in an order a month ago to send within East Coast as a gift. No receipt in 10 days. Called and service said they had not sent b/c not sure whether to send a "coldpack" with gift and they had emailed me. Given I have a commerce account where I check junkmail, and never seen it, this was first clue this company is a joke. Asked then for refund. Two weeks later called back b/c no refund posted. Said it would be done this week. Called back end of week, still not done. I'm 200% sure if I had not called the first time, they would never have contacted me, just kept my cash and not sent the items. This is a company being run like a fourth grader's lemonade stand. This review is for a mail order I placed. As a British expat in the US it can be hard (and expensive) to find some of the things that I could only buy back in England. British Delights have a huge selection of goods so I was able to find lots of things I wanted. Some of the items were reduced because their "best before" date had expired, but even the Kit Kats which are three months past this date still tasted fine. The order was placed late on a Friday night and was assembled and shipped on Monday via UPS Ground, so I got it on Wednesday. Despite the quick delivery, at $13 for a $92 order I wish delivery could have been subsidised, I will have to think carefully about any potential future orders because of this. All the items were individually wrapped to prevent them from getting crushed or broken, which was excellent. Overall good experience and I encourage you to order from them. read more

We have emailed and talked in person with very little resolve. I think the company could be great if they were more organized and maybe just a little bit friendly. Incredible selection of British foods, mostly packaged items but also a freezer of things like Cornish pasties and a refrigerator with beer and clotted cream, etc. The range of goods is extensive, and the prices seem pretty good for imported items. Ever watched "League of Gentlemen"? I've never felt so unwelcome in my life. We entered what appeared to be a closed store and were greeted by hostile stares. I didn't expect a hug but an attempt at a smile might have been nice. I asked if there were any Beef OXO's in stock as they weren't on the shelf and was made to feel bad for only buying 2 boxes of 6 cubes (the girl actually tried to make me buy 12 boxes???). The guy reluctantly went to get just my two boxes and didn't bother restocking the shelf. How bad am I for not buying their whole inventory? Since I spent just under $70 I don't think of myself as a nuisance customer, but I won't be returning to "the Local Shop". (As a small business owner myself I think they have a lot to learn about customer service and building relationships with their market - or if they want to do just on-line then close the store to the public. I would have been a $200+ a month customer in savory pies & Ribena alone, now I'll never shop with them again in person or on-line) read more

Went there looking for the aromatic tea that I had at a British friend's house. The quaint looking storefront leads into an area for in-person shoppers with a variety of items on 6-7 rows of tall shelving. In the back appears to house a larger warehouse for the internet sales. As I'm not familiar with most British goods, I'm rating based on the storefront appearance, helpfulness of staff, and selection of goods. I picked up a few items I'm familiar with, like Walker shortbread, Twinings tea and some turkish delights. My friend later told me to look for Tetley with the British Blend. Another tip she gave me was that the British version of Cadbury chocolates is also a different recipe from the U.S. version from Hershey. read more

As far as local places selling stuff imported directly from the UK, this is as good as it gets in the local area. Lots and lots of candy and other grocery items from the UK. If you are from the UK or lived there then you will appreciate getting food you haven't seen in years. My husband is British, so we were glad to have a place to go to stock up. This shop is not "made with love" but it has most of the basics. The presentation is bare bones, and it's worth checking the expirations on items before you buy. But we found everything we were looking for. If anyone knows of another British grocer in the Boston region, I'd love to know about it. But we would definitely return to this one if we need. read more

Having had little luck finding a good variety of British goods at our other usual haunts (the store in Freeport, ME, and the annoying, catty Union Jack in Peabody), we searched for other options and happened upon the listing for this place. I called, confirmed their location and hours, and we made the trek yesterday in the snow. We found a good variety, including McVitie's digestive biscuits with dark chocolate, which we haven't been able to find anywhere lately. Most importantly, they had at least 8 different varieties of Christmas pudding, which I'd been looking for all over. So happy! Thanks, guys! We'll be back. read more
