Simple and easy night stay. Relatively clean but gives an older appearance visually and a touch stuffy. You get a feeling that there's a need to open up a few windows to circulate fresh air. The lobby is lined with entrances to rooms (really different in my mind). I did not try the breakfast (on the 2nd floor). I didn't mind the stay and would probably go back, but most definitely would not take a room with a door that is attached to the lobby. I'm sure it's not noisy but just what I'm not used to when it comes to staying overnight. read more

Wowza, what a snazzy surprise in Campbell, California. Lovely faux Italian/European majestic palazzo theme is carried throughout this hidden charmer. We're here working on a few rental properties, but I could certainly see this as a sweet, LOCALS affordable wedding anniversary, Valentine, birthday, any lovely reason to enjoy a special splash of class with out spending buckets of cash. Now the free breakfast is the standard freebie diy waffle, breakfast cereal, a hot egg thing, sausage or bacon. Happily, I like a little yogurt and granola. I forgive the place and keep the 5th star because the place is THAT pretty. What to do? Get up early and grab your sweetheart a cup of coffee and what looked like delicious bakery muffins Enjoy the treat in the perfect bed then go out for a fancy brunch somewhere else. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are friendly and welcoming! I usually stay somewhere nearby when I'm in the neighborhood but this time, I had my 89 year old mother-in-law in tow so I thought I'd get something less sterile. I found the Bristol online and thought it looked lovely. I was actually underwhelmed when I pulled up as the exterior is unassuming (but secure, well lit with plenty of parking). Once I walked in the lobby though, I was dazzled!! Every inch of the place was beautifully decorated! I wanted an early check in as my MIL was getting tired. The manager was very helpful and said he would get us a room right away, which he did! The room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable. I wasn't able to stream content on their tv though as I am used to doing at other hotels but that wasn't a big deal. I was able to use a hdmi cable and my laptop so she could watch her shows. This is an older, perfectly serviceable hotel with a nice professional staff and large spacious rooms. Marble entryways and flooring. Plenty of statutes and paintings. Beds are lumpy but comfy (see photo). Breakfast is good. I've stayed at Bristol Hotel basically every time I need to for work, and have had decent experiences up until now. Upon checking in and entering the room I'll be staying at for the next two nights, I encountered: 1. Used water bottle on night stand 2. Used bar of soap in shower 3. Used lotion sample (whoever used it left the bottle squeezed 4. Someone's leftover eye cream sample on the bathroom shelf 5. Toilet paper use (as in: not folded as if new and pulled out from use) 6. Bathroom door broken/unhinged 7. Bed cover ripped on the corner 8. Spit or dried up mucous on the painting next to the bed I immediately threw everything that looked used away feeling a bit disgusted. Not sure if housekeeping just wasn't paying attention to detail (since the beds were made and towels were folded new) but it felt like someone had been living in the room minutes before I walked in. I'm going to think twice about staying at Bristol Hotel moving forward. What a bummer. read more

This place is old and does need updating. For the price you pay you do expect the rooms to be awesome and the customer service outstanding. I believe there were only five other guests staying in the hotel during our stay. The hotel was very quiet and peaceful until time for checkout. We were given a late checkout - Noon instead of 11. Right at 11:05 we got a knock at our door by the maid service reminding us that check out was at 11. We had to explain that we had an extra hour. It does not seem as though staff communicates well here because 25 minutes later we got another knock on the door. We did get out of there on time. read more

This is a unsuspecting very nicely appointed hotel with pleasant staff. Wide hallways, elegant fixtures and lighting throughout. Rooms are big, and everything was so nice and clean. The bathroom is huge and stocked with toiletries. Nespresso coffee maker was a big plus. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Our room was super quiet, too. Came up and stayed here with my aunt who was up for treatment. It was a rough few days for her which required us to stay an additional night. The staff here was very accommodating and let us the additional night without a reservation. They provided us with a late check out the 1st day. 5 pm. Staff provided all the support we needed and we had everything we needed. The room was nice and comfortable for my aunt. We don't have one complaint about our stay here. Usually travelers will find this kind of property in the East or Midwest. Brick exterior, Federalist period furniture, British portraits and classical statuary. Add marble floors and bathrooms, and classic wallpaper, with chandelier lighting fixtures and you have something unusual in California. We enjoyed it but this is a "boutique" hotel and is not at all full service. There are no doormen, room service, work out facilities, restaurant, or pool, sauna or jacuzzi. But you are also not paying for those amenities. The "free" breakfast is a bit quirky. While the choices are ample, the $25 Magic Chef microwave has an unreadable mechanical timer. There is no toaster or toaster oven for the English muffins. Plus the start time for breakfast is 8 A.M., hardly business person friendly. Plus, no coffee until then. The coffee service in the rooms is unique and kind of a bad joke. You have to heat water, then pour it over a single serve, you open it, coffee pod that straddles the cup. Come on man, you could charge +$10/night if the rooms had Kuerigs. The hotel staff is very friendly and housekeeping is borderline exceptional. The property exterior is immaculate. One note: do not get a room the faces Bascom Avenue. The road noise is a bit excessive. read more

I had a last minute trip up to San Jose this week and needed a place to crash overnight with an early morning meeting. I looked up hotels in the area and found the Bristol Hotel to be fairly inexpensive and close. So I went ahead and booked after looking around for anything compatible and finding nothing. There were less appealing places that cost more and offered less, so in that regard, I made out great! The inside of the hotel is quite luxurious if Victorian decor appeals to you. There are many chandeliers, paintings and sculptures throughout the building. Upon entering my guest room, I was surprised to see so much space. There is ample space in the room for an extra king sized bed if needed, but I guess it's a pretty good trade off to have extra, open space. The bed itself was decent, nothing fancy or anything. Basic mattress. Sheets were clean, or so it seemed. There was a nice long entry way into the room that had marble flooring. The marble also continued into and throughout the bathroom. There was an extra phone in the bathroom toilet area, but only one phone on the desk in the bedroom. That was kind or annoying as I was hoping to call to the front desk for something in the evening after I had just layed down. The website advertises a wine and nut reception in the evenings. However, upon check-in, I was told it was cancelled as this facility is no longer part of the Choice Hotel chain. The clerk was helpful and I appreciate him changing my room after I found that the original room I was offered faced the street. They do offer a free breakfast, business center/ computer in the lobby and workout room. The breakfast itself was kind of bland. The scrambled eggs needed salt and pepper when cooking to flavor it up. So did the potatoes. I added both and salsa to make it worth while. Bacon was cooked well along with over easy eggs, oatmeal. They also offered various cereals, fruit and yogurt. A decent way to start the day! If needed, I'd stay again. Just want to be sure they change their website so as to not mislead future guests. I checked into the room and tried my best to stay, but I really cannot stay in the room. It will hurt my health. I checked out of the room within a couple of minutes and this hotel charged me more than $160 dollars. It really hurts. This is my first time seeing a hotel like this. Please hire more professional staff at the counter! We are staycationing while our house is under construction. We had to extend our stay because of delays in our project. It took us three staff members to get an extension of our stay. The first person we talked to Extended our reservation and notified us that we might have to change our room. No big deal. A few days later I checked with another staff to reconfirm the extension and to find out if they know which room we will be going into. He said that he might have an option for us to go back to the same room as the one we are in. He asked me to get back with him after some time. So after a day or two I checked in again with the front counter only to find out that no extensions has been made so far! In addition, the lady at the front desk on Sunday late afternoon was not very polite and courteous in dealing with the situation. She started giving us her talking points about how she will not be able to guarantee us which room we will go into without really addressing why our reservation was not extended a few days back when we first made the initial request. She made a squinted face and does not understand customer service. Instead,we got a whole speech about rules and regulations she's using to cover her bases. May I ask if there is anything not trivial about our request even when agree to move to a different room? If you don't feel empathy with your customers you don't belong in customer service department. read more

Old school yes, but clean, comfortable, and free parking. We stay in San Jose for work and the hotel prices are climbing every day. Thought we would try the Bristol that we found on our SW site. Think old European rooms, wallpaper, cherrywood furniture, marble, statues and Queen Elisabeth portraits. Some iconic blasts from the past too: hair dryer attached to the wall, landline telephone by the toilet, desk and chair along with huge sofa in the room. We've stayed in hotels in Germany that were more modern for sure. To top it off...once again I forgot my toothbrush. I walked down to the lobby and ask if they had any ( some hotels are charging a fee for these now). Not only did they get me a toothbrush with a friendly smile, they also gave me some toothpaste. Thin walls so you can hear everything your neighbors are doing, all night long. Plus every foot step on the second floor will echo through your room. Terrible for a place that thinks it's a three star hotel. Old beds, old bed spreads, with crappy pillows. No reason for old pillows and old scratchy sheets. The place is clean, but if you are not comfortable, and can't sleep, it does not matter. If you pay more than $150 a night, your wasting your money, the free breakfast is not that good. Are these people staying at the same hotel I am? This hotel, in all it's tacky, neo-classical glory, is awful. The girl at the desk has been rude and unhelpful since we got here. Not just to me and my family but everyone who calls. She has a bad attitude. I'm a manager. I would fire her on the spot. It seems there is a staffing and management problem here. Let me get down to the review... Um they put us in a king room with our window facing the parking lot/entrance and the curtains don't even close all the way. Sorry fellow guests, you will probably see me and my husband nude at least once during our stay... Oh and there's a crack on the window where it looks like someone tried to break in. Yay! I feel so safe! I believe they give prisoners at San Quentin better mattresses. I'll leave pics for you all! Mmm, random black hairs on the sink! I am rating this hotel as a 2 star because despite the dilapidated condition of the hotel rooms, the location and great staff make up for it. 1. First glance at the hotel, looks nice from outside and walking into the lobby. The staff was friendly. 2. Decor was cool and weird, very Victorian style. Hallways were clean and nicely decorated. None of the ice-makers worked. I had to go to the front desk and they got ice from the kitchen. 3. Opened the door to my room, carpet was stained and pretty nasty. I think there were blood stains by the bed (See pics). 3. Mattress was lumpy, smelly, and so were the pillows. I went to the front desk and asked them to change out my linens. I came back and saw the same stains that I saw upon arrival, and I am pretty easy going, so I tuffed it out and cancelled my next two nights. Great place to stay for $50-$75 if you need a place for cheap and don't mind MOTEL style cleanliness.... Kinda sad really this place has potential, but it is a Best Western owned establishment so that explains a lot. read more

This quirky little hotel off is just that quirky. With its mostly Venetian decor with Greek statues, it could be considered charming to some or proof the Haunted Mansion exist to others. Every room is decorated with Venetian pictures and/or bust. Or your room could be guarded by David. Pros: Breakfast served at 6:30am. Daily fresh towels. Chandeliers galore- in every room including the elevator. Mostly friendly staff like the thin, sharply dressed one. Piece of Berlin Wall in the dining room. It's on the 2nd floor. Cons: Dirty. Carpets need to be steam-cleaned. There was caked-on stains everywhere on the floor. Better yet just replace them. The beds felt like futon cushioning. Way too soft for my liking. Thankful for the legit? massage parlor down the corner. My toilet did not flush properly. Had to call maintenance to fix it. Grateful for friends staying in rooms nearby. A friend's room had a crack in the window; apparently, it has been there for 3 years now according to the pictures. No pool. Doors take a moment to lock. A bit pricey. read more

First the good: The very nicest hotel staff I have ever met in the bay area anywhere. What a great group of people. Check in was a breeze. I had a little trouble with my door key and they was a cleaning guy watching me struggle with it so he let me in and then came back with a new working key for me right away. It is silly old school. The decor, it is like something out of a corny old murder mystery. It was kind of fun. The breakfast was a notch above most complimentary breakfasts for sure. The bed was cozy. The not so good: The view is kind of depressing, the place smells a little funny but I could not quite place the smell, and they don't have a hot tub which I really wish they would get. You cannot really walk to anywhere in Campbell that you would want to go. It isn't close to any good bars or dining so you have to drive. Other than that I really liked it. read more

Rooms including bathroom are huge and all amenities are there, also fast Internet, wired and wireless. Has a refrigerator in the room. Includes a hot excellent complimentary breakfast as well. The AC works just fine, it's maybe a bit noisy, but at night you don't need it, just open the windows. As the nights are pretty cool here. Spend 13 nights in a row here with no effort. Everything is nearby, and it's nice and quiet, even with the big roads nearby. Stayed on the first floor at the parking side of the building on top of the drive-thru. Free ample parking as well. Staff is friendly and attentive. The hotel and it's internal design is... Well... It's nice, it's well thought about and "chic". Not sure about the German references in the breakfast room though... Probably the owners are proud Germans and love Helmut Kohl... Which is fine. High quality finishing, someone did put some effort in here during building, it shows. And yeah, the statues in the hallways have their bits hanging out, which I find funny and not an issue. It's "art". Would advice this hotel to everyone and won't hesitate to book it again. I was missing a bar, which sometimes is just handy if you traveling solo and don't want to drive. Lots of bars near in walking distance though. No mini-bar either. read more

The Bristol Hotel went above and beyond when it came to the decor of their rooms. Decorated in Rich Victorian style. Chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, Victorian oil paintings, dark wood furniture, richly colored fabrics, and marble coubtertops are what makeup these rooms. Along with all the modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, refrigerator, coffee pots and anything you need to make your room comfortable. This place is a dream. As soon as I walked into my room I wanted to start speaking with a proper British accent . For the first time ever, I never wanted to leave my room. read more

A week in advance I booked a king room for six nights and asked for a 2nd floor room at the back away from noisy Bascom Avenue, the front door, the driveway, and ice machines. I checked in and got a downstairs room, next to the front door, on the driveway, and three rooms in from the noisy street. The clerk insisted it would be quiet inside and out. NOT!!! And people smoked & talked on their phones in front right outside my open window. The desk clerk wouldn't address it so I had to go out and kindly ask someone to move across the driveway. Need to drive to places to eat and other services. Not a walkable area. The good: - very fast and reliable internet - large bathroom with double sinks & sitting area - very clean and tidy every day with the exception of urine spots on the floor in front of the toilet and some crud on the refrigerator handle when I checked in and never cleaned up - very reasonable compared to other area hotels ($159/night on their website, others like Doubletree were $300+) - I like that pets aren't allowed so I know they haven't been on the furniture or peeing on the floor; great for people with allergies The bad: - quirky people at the reception desk: conflicting info on early cancellation; sharing their personality traits that aren't customer service oriented - very rough/scratchy towels some days - mattress is lumpy - gave me a back ache; lumpy pillows - no microwave which seems to be the norm in a lot of boutique hotels - no in-room coffee maker (instant only) - could hear the person next door talking on the phone through the wall and people walking around upstairs. I would stay here again if I was guaranteed a quieter room on the 2nd floor and better mattress, otherwise I'll spend $300/night some place else. read more

Staying here made me feel like I was staying with my grandmother if she was descended from French royalty and was in a marriage of convenience with an elderly gay Italian man. Free wired ethernet for internet access was nice. Having 100+ cable channels was interesting, but no premium channels. In my bouts of travel-induced insomnia, I ended up watching the weirdness of Russian and Japanese news channels, so I learned about the greatness of the Russian patriot party and also the latest update on sumo. Between the nude statuary and gratuitous amount of chandeliers, the decorations from a victorian hunting lodge mashed up with a enlightenment era brothel, I didn't know what to think. Breakfast is also a bit strange, but I'll take free eggs, bacon, and coffee at 7am 20' down the hall any day of the week. read more
