They are never ever available by phone. For a company that says they are always available...it should say "our voicemail is always available". The sent a text and called my phone saying an alarm went off. I was in the shower and couldn't answer. They Sent the fire department. I'm trying to follow up with them to find out what is wrong and they dont answer their phone. Pushed every button. No answer. How is that possible that they dont have the man power to take calls? Its not the first time. It is outrageous. Ive also had a really bad experience with their billing. Once you sign the annual contract, you are NOT allowed to cancel your service without paying the full contract. And that was despite them changing my monthly rate and over charging me. I feel scammed by them. During covid I put in an alarm while my house was being renovated. The technician left before finishing the job.I never signed up for central station and I made the sales person aware that I will not be using central station. I will be selling the house after the renovations. he said not a problem.I do not own the house anymore never used or signed up for Central station and my the sales person said not a problem pay as you go. Now Briscoe said I owe them $thousands of dollars for services I never had or informed of. I do not even own the house anymore. I still cant get the sales person on the phone. read more

Now they never answer their phone and when you finally get someone to call you back, they can't help you. There is now no difference between Briscoe and SimpliSafe. Our alarm was serviced by Bellringer when we bought the house. Briscoe acquired Bellringer and the service has been terrible since then. It is virtually impossible to get ahold of anyone on the phone, and messages go unanswered. We have had two service calls that have resulted in telling us something we already know - the alarm runs on outdated 4G technology. There has been zero effort to give us an estimate to upgrade the system or replace it. One would think Briscoe would be trying to sell in newer equipment to long-standing customers. Instead we get a call at least once a day from the monitoring station to tell us that our alarm isn't working. It is Groundhog Day with Briscoe. We will use another provider. read more

While I was out of town, our security alarm went off. I received a call and a text from Briscoe stating as such. I turned on the cameras on my phone and watched a perpetrator break into my office building. I told the dispatcher to call the police immediately. Then 3 minutes later, another dispatcher calls my cell to let me know our alarm is going off, I tell them the same thing "call the cops". Then my partner gets a call notifying us that the alarm is going off. By this time we are SEETHING and call one of our employees that is local to call 911. What kind of alarm company is this? This is in addition to them not installing the cameras on the outside of the building properly the first two times. read more

The worst. Briscoe bought Scan Security. Scan was reliable, helpful, prompt, and reasonably priced. Since Briscoe bought Scan the customer service has been miserable and their prices have sky rocketed. Not sure why anyone would use them. We are going to change services as our latest experience has now taken over 6 weeks to fix a problem and it's still not fixed. Since Bellringer was purchased by Briscoe, it's been down hill, even though many of the staff are the same. Non-responsive and a central call center that's inefficient. It's all fine if there are no issues, but.... Had a defective fire alarm monitor that triggered a call to the local fire department and that was all good. But to get service 24 hours and still no response of when, though they'll only pause the alarm not to call the fire dept for 3 days BUT it still goes off in the house. And when I called back and spoke to the receptionist- fake interest and hung up. And no call back. Switching to a locally owned company! read more

Absolutely the worst customer service EVER. I have scheduled with them repeatedly to come out for a service check. I wait and wait all day, and no one shows up or calls. When you call to inquire, they literally tell you they "are overwhelmed." Do you really want to hear this from a company that's supposed to be protecting the security of your home?? They used to provide adequate service, but ever since the changeover to Briscoe, they have deteriorated significantly. Got a message on my cell phone that there was a kitchen fire at our house. I tried to call them twice with no answer and was forced to leave a voicemail!!! Worst customer service. With no authorization or notice, they changed my service plan and increased the quarterly payment by almost 50%. When asked how this could happen, their response is that they are "allowed" to raise their prices as much as they want at any time. I am sure these people would not respond the same way if their cable company or cell phone provider did that. read more

Scan Security I honestly cannot believe there are no reviews about Scan. I am completely confused as to how this company supposedly protects homes all over the hamptons . They use an outside monitoring company now called Rapid Response- they were bad before but now it's really bad. They operate as 2 completely separate companies, not knowing what the either one is doing. My alarm was ringing and I never got a call so I called and after 18 minutes spoke to somebody. I asked what would have happened if it had been an emergency and she said "You wouldn't call us you would call 911" Isn't the point that they are monitoring those situations?! read more

This was once a good local service then they joined some large national organzation that has no local connection. People who respond to calls might as well be in the artic, they are clueless about who you are or where you are. It is a joke. I am compelled to update my prior negative review to reflect the positive resolution of our issues with Scan's customer service. Maureen followed up just when we thought our longtime relationship with Scan was over, ( both with our local business and resident accounts). She listened to our issues and acted immediately. In other words, she did the right thing. To me as a business owner, this speaks volumes. Any business can have slip ups, ourselves included, but at the end of the day, it comes down to taking responsibility, and focusing on the customer. What would the consequences of their negligence be if this were a real emergency? After my negative review, Scan quickly pulled out all stops to respond -- from senior management, to service manager, to David, the hard working and very knowledgeable technician who performed the work on site. I am encouraged that they all took the feedback seriously and will be more proactive in addressing service issues in the future. Time will tell but I am hopeful. I have used these guys for years and thought they were amazing! Unfortunately, like another reviewer said, they were bought by My Alarm and since have been unbelievably poor. Got a call about a water alarm in my basement in the middle of the night... operator said there's an alarm, ok? Before I could wake up she hung up? Didn't say, should I send a guard out? So, i called back the same number and the run around was stupidity on top of stupidity. Do I want emergency service? No... I want a guard to check my house to see what the problem is. Reps telling me they'll call me back, but when asked, admit they don't have my number. A guy telling me he's in Smithtown and cant do anything because the dispatch office didn't call him back and they said they would??? Wow! These guys have screwed up before, but this was a different level and I'm still in the middle of this more than two and a half hours after the first call and I still dont know if my basement is flooded or it's a false alarm!! Dumb is bad enough when you're dealing with something like your cable tv going out, when it's dealing with alarms in your home the results can be catastrophic. Do yourself a favor and find another alarm company that cares and is somewhat reliable... these guys certainly aren't. read more

I have used Scan security for years. Never satisfied but nevertheless continued. Recently I had a problem. They kept saying they could fix it from their main office. They couldn't. They sent a technician out...no notice to me...he showed up and couldn't find the key. So, he decided to break open a glass door attached to my dog door and enter my house. Needless to say I was completely horrified. And they charged me $221 service call. When I complained they did nothing about it. They claimed that was the way to do it. They never even notified me. I strongly recommend no one use Scan. They are not ethical and have terrible customer service and who ever is in charge should be fired. read more

I started using Scan Security when I bought my home in East Hampton in 2011. Twice since then there was a false flood alarm in my basement. They charged me to send someone to my home to check for a flood both times. They balked when I told them they installed defective equipment in my home and I wouldn't pay for their mistake. They eventually reversed the charges and replaced the defective equipment. They charged me for the visit to replace the defective equipment, but then reversed those charges, too, after I called them. I sold my house in March of this year. I gave them a month's warning to close my account, which they did. But I had paid 3 months in advance and they owed me for 1 month's service and I asked for a refund. I spoke to Veronica on March 20th, Melissa on March 27th, and Kathleen on April 2nd. Each person said they knew I was owed this refund but Scan was a bit behind in refunds. They all said they would get back to me in a day or two. No one ever called me back. Now it's June. I never got my refund. Please don't hire this company. They do not stand behind their service, and install defective equipment. read more

I recently signed up with Scan Security for my home in East Hampton. I work in the city, and visit my home on Long Island for the summer. I called into Scan because I didn't understand how to login to one of their services. I spoke to a guy named Joe in service. He answered all of my questions and was able to walk me through using their Total connect application. I can now control my home by using my phone. I was very satisfied with the time and patience he took in teaching me how to download the application, and using its features. very happy with my commitment to Scan. read more

I have used SCAN Security for my home alarm system monitoring since 2004, and I have only good things to say about their service. Several times when I was out of town the water sensor in my equipment room was triggered by a minor leak. SCAN promptly notified both my local house sitter and me (traveling out of state) so that we were able to resolve the problem before it escalated. Just recently, SCAN contacted me to report a communications error in my alarm system. Stacey, in SCAN's Service Dept, worked with me in diagnosing the likely cause, which turned out to be a bad Verizon connection in a junction box on a telephone pole. Whether working with Stacey, or one of SCAN's field technicians, I have had very positive experiences. read more

I am writing this review to alert anyone thinking of using this company to please look elsewhere. I have been through hell and back over the last three years due to their complete incompetence. Their emergency response team is a joke. In 2015, in spite of a notification that a high water sensor was triggered, it took them over an hour and a half to send a guard to my home. As a result, a foot of water had to be drained from the basement and over $7000.00 worth of damage occurred. It routinely has taken a guard over 40 minutes to respond. Sensor alerts happen weekly, no one cares at all about rectifying issues, and they do not show up for scheduled appointments. I have never written a review of any sort prior to this one, This company is just horrific to do business with. User beware. read more

Scan is TERRIBLE now that everything seems to be handled out of some other state. We set up an appointment for two weeks ago and they failed to show up. When we finally got someone to talk to us, they said they would be here today between 2 and 4pm as they were booked all other days. We just called them and the person kept trying to sell us additional service. When we said we were calling re the scheduled appointment, she kept trying to sell us. We asked for a manager and she refused. She then said there will be no one showing up today at all to provide the service. As it is, we get calls from them at all hours of the day and night re transmission issues. STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THEM. There is not one good thing I can say about these guys or their owners at My Alarm center. read more

TERRIBLE COMPANY. I have been a Scan customer for more than 16 years. I was encountering problems with my security system, and called Scan to schedule a service appointment for Friday July 29. A few days before, I called again to confirm the appointment for that day and was told the technician would be at my house between 12 noon and 4pm. I was home the entire day, had the front gate wide open, and had a bunch of other contractors in and around the house doing various tasks. The Scan service technician never showed up. I called after 4pm to find out what happened, and was told the service technician reported that he came to the house and no one was home! I was told that someone from Scan would get back to me. No one called. I called Sunday and complained again that not only had the service technician not shown up, but that no one had called me back. I was told that my problem would be bumped up to an unnamed vice president who would call me back. No one called back. I called back today and was told that "Paul" was in a meeting but would call me back in 5 minutes. No return call. I will shortly be an ex-customer of this wholly unprofessional outfit. read more

Alarm /sirens went off at 3am and I bolted out of bed. I was alone in the house in the woods so I thought someone had broken in. I was so scared, I didnt want to leave my room. The alarm shuts off after about 15 seconds. I get no phone call, nothing. I couldnt sleep until the sun was up. The minute I get up, I call My Alarm center and they tell me Ive reached the sales dept and they needed to transfer me to someone who can help me. Was on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up and called back. The same guy picks up and says, "thats strange and ill email them to call you asap". Hours pass- no call. I call back again and its the same guy and he tells me he is physically going to walk over and tell them to call me. Again, No call back. At this point I was so frustrated that I called back and told them I wanted billing because I wanted to see how I can close my account and transfer to a different company. The billing guy tells me he doesnt want to lose me as a customer, etc so he said he was going to send a technician asap and waive the fee. He said someone would call me to schedule time. NO ONE CALLED ME FOR 2 DAYS. So at this point, I was so frustrated that I decided to call SCAN SECURITY in Southampton which is near my house. I explain to them what happened and I asked them about the technician . A "Woody" tells me the issue is most likely my electrical and I need to call an electrician because a technician is a waste of time. Mind you, the last time I spoke to Scan Security (which was the day before) and the service dept told me my phone lines keep going in and out and that someone would call me to schedule a technician to check. I explain this to Woody and he tells me that they are wrong and he is not sure why they told me that. I was like, "can I just get the tech to come to my house please?" He goes, well we can't waive the technician fee. Meanwhile, I was told that I could get the tech fee waived days ago when I called and told them I wanted to close my account. Woody kept saying it was a waste of time sending a technician because its most likely my electric thats the issue and I should just call an electrician. Meanwhile, WHY CANT THEY JUST SEND A TECH TO VERIFY THIS?? Why is it sooooo difficult to get a tech out here to just check why my alarm is ringing and shutting off in the middle of the night?? Talk about terrible customer service!! Instead of assuming what the problem is (especially since I had such a difficult time getting an answer for days!!)- why is it so hard to send someone to my house to check my system? Isn't that their jobs?? What's the point of having an alarm system when I dont feel safe in my own house? Seriously, baffled by this and can't wait to switch over to a different company!! read more

Had a recent service call with DON the technician. He was GREAT. Very capable, professional. He instilled new confidence in the company, as Scan Security definitely has its challenges, no doubt. In the past, it's been an ongoing comedy of errors and terrible response times when there is an issue. But I think they are trying to fix.
