I always find myself scraping the cup to get every last drop of froth. The barista definitely knows what she is doing. Little Green's food menu isn't overly large, mainly pre-made wraps and baguettes, and these have always proved fresh and tasty. And like all good cafes they do a wonderful bacon and eggs. Does service even exist here?…read more I usually don't like to give bad reviews, but Pancake Manor definitely needs improvement. I came to Pancake Manor with a friend after needing to satisfy a long craving for some pancakes. The food is generally quite delicious, and the sides go well; however, the service leaves a lot to desire. We sat down and looked at the menu to make our choices. When we decided what we were going to order and the respective sides we wanted we struggled in getting anyone to come over and serve us. It wasn't a busy day, the restaurant only had about a third capacity, we weren't sitting in an ambiguous spot (right across from the main drinks area), nor was there a lack of staff. Staff just couldn't notice us. Staff would walk by and my friend would gesture for service but nothing happened. Eventually, we questioned whether table service existed and my friend then went to the payment counter to place an order. A staff member then came to take our order. The food came out quickly and, with the exception to the garlic bread (which wasn't as crisp as I hoped to to be), was delicious. Unfortunately, that is the only nice thing I can really say. The staff forgot our drinks order and I had to go up to the counter to remind them of our drinks. Furthermore, when we asked for water we were told we needed to get it ourselves (no problem with that). The person who I was with went to the places were glasses were kept to pour water but there was nothing there. We didn't raise anything to the store because we didn't want to make a fuss. Eventually after a good 15 minutes someone managed to notice that glasses were missing/yet to be cleaned and replaced the supply. The next problem was that after filling one glass there wasn't enough water.... After that, we didn't need anymore "service" and the meal was okay. It's a shame that what could have been a lovely meal could easily be spoiled by the poor service. I might visit again, but I won't hold expectations too high for now.

It takes me about 6-7 minutes to walk over here from the office and as a Texan, let me tell you, that is a sizable trek just to get coffee. However, trust me when I say that it's wholly worth it.

Macchiato Me opened earlier this year in a strip of shops that sit on Wardell Street and, to me, mark the start of Ashgrove proper as you leave Enoggera. Food in general delicious, service could improve (both at counter and serving table), pleasant…read moreoutlook from our inside table and nice and warm - room outside too, including on pavement if you preferred a cooler aspect. 1. Big minus - no freshly squeezed juice - although a great selection of bottled juices (around 8 different combinations), which one must select oneself from the fridge and cart to the table where a fresh glass was provided. For breakfast out, unless a buffet, I like to have everything brought to the table (as the rest of the meal was) and if there is juice in a bottle, for it to be brought with the glass and opened and poured - as you would at dinner with a bottle of wine. 2. I also prefer table service after looking at a menu, not having to grab a table and then go up to the counter and order. 3. I ordered porridge and then toast with marmalade and fruit toast - I didn't specifically emphasise the toast after the porridge, but I did say porridge and then the toast. I also asked that the coffee not be brought immediately but after the breakfast had commenced - so to have with the toast. So I thought they would understand that first the porridge and then the toast. Instead, they brought all together (except for the coffee, in keeping with my order). When the porridge and toast were brought out, I said I had expected the toast after the porridge because it would be cold by the time I got to it - there was a fairly halfhearted apology but no offer to take it back and bring out warm toast a little later - with the coffee. The porridge was delicious. The fruit toast was OK, the sourdough fine - but of course close to cold by the time I got to it. It would have been great to have a selection of marmalades and jams - instead there was only one type of jam and one type of marmalade (and vegemite, peanut butter and honey - bonus points for that as handy if there with children who may not eat jam or marmalade). 4. They came to ask if I was ready for coffee before I'd finished the porridge and I said yes - they obviously didn't hear because no coffee arrived and then when already started on the toast they did ask again and they heard me this time as the coffee then arrived speedily - so that was great. 5. My friend had the big breakfast which included home made baked beans - they turned out to be made with almost Indian style spices - that may have been referred to on the menu (which she didn't read fully), but as not a usual choice of spices to go with eggs, bacon etc, it should be highlighted on the menu. My friend said the rest of the big breakfast was lovely. Overall, somewhere I would recommend, but with a caution to be very specific re timing if ordering two different things, and to read the menu very carefully in terms of inclusions (I am assuming the menu did mention the spices, but as my friend didn't read it fully I don't know).

Being a humanities student at the University of Queensland, I practically live in the Social Science and Humanities Library, where Merlo is located. I have spent all too many hours sitting with a coffee here, watching the crows, chatting with other students, reading, writing, and even having meetings with my thesis supervisor. Merlo gets pretty busy but they are well staffed for it and even when there is a giant line up you always get a smile. They churn their coffees out pretty quickly so you never have much of a wait for either takeaway or table service. And the coffee is good. I regularly get either their smooth latte, delicious iced coffee in summer or delectable hot chocolate with marsh mellows in winter. The food is also good. They have a nice selection of foccacias and toasties as well as some chocolate cookies that are true indulgence.
