The theater is beautiful with ornate designs to the boxes, unbelievably detailed ceilings with stunning chandeliers, and gorgeous embellishments everywhere. The acoustics and lighting during the performances are great and we were really impressed with the quality of show. Seats are comfortable and between that, the music, and the wine I was practically lulled to sleep. Restrooms are nice and clean and large enough to keep the line during intermission from becoming completely ridiculous. Another great thing about intermission is you can refresh your wine supply in a sippy cup you are permitted to bring into the theater with you. I also really appreciate how friendly everyone is here. It's easy getting your tickets and there are helpful individuals to assist you in finding your seats. Between the beautiful and clean venue, the amazing shows they offer, and the friendly service, this is a great place for a fun date night in Omaha.

My review is a few years late...(or in the works)…read more The Orpheum is Omaha's oldest theater. and has been rebuilt a few times. It is the iconic Orpheum you would envision. Ornate plaster work throughout a large hall with multi tiers of detail and old world craftsmanship not done anymore. There is one entrance with about 4 doors to pass through and a mobile bar right when you get in. (this is the busiest spots to get a drink just keep walking) Straight ahead is the main staircase and to your left are the current show concessions followed by restroom and another bar and stairs. Each floor here has its own bar and the 3rd floor also has restrooms the 2nd does not. Most of the seats her have a great view its really impossible to not have a good view of the stage. 1st loge is my favorite. I feel I get full view of the entire stage from a higher up vantage point The acoustics are perfect. The temps are about always perfect not hot not cold. Of all the cities I have been this is for sure my favorite venue for performing arts. Maybe because its home and feels comfy, but looking at all the bonuses nope. This place is a GEM!!!

Not because of the shows per se, but because of the community this place has created. The employees who make it all happen. I'll talk specifically about tonight. Went to a show, and had an issue with my ticket. This issue was an issue I created by making a mistake when the tickets were transferred, but Steelhouse employees were so quick and helpful. They took something that could have ruined a whole evening, and they resolved it within minutes. That alone was impressive and very kind especially since the mistake was not on their end. I was greeted by familiar faces, some who seemed to even remember me back. My next experience was specifically upstairs in the balcony. I'm currently expecting and needed to sit down and rest for a bit due to some complications I've been having. The employees checked on me regularly and went way above and beyond to make sure I was well cared for. I'm not special, they did this to everyone there. I saw paramedics with a gentleman, and shortly after, an employee took the rest of his evening to sit next to this ill person and assist them until I can only assume their ride arrived safely. The janitors were kind, and picked up very quickly after people's accidents left and right. Their work does not go unappreciated by people like me, who could've slipped and fallen on the spilled drinks along the way to and from the GA floor. Even the elevator greeters genuinely seemed excited for you to experience all this place had to offer. The cops that nod your way as you exit the venue are kind as well. This place doesn't appear to be an establishment of employees, but a community built upon responsibility and caring for one another - what a venue should be. I will be back, and I cannot wait to greet the faces of those who work so hard to make simple concerts so so special and memorable in ways that you just don't find just anywhere.

The service is too notch and plenty of ushers do walk you directly to your seats. There are at least four bars from what I saw (one in main hallway and three in the seating/stage area). There were plenty of bartenders as well. They have a coat check in and there's plenty of space to stand around before the show starts. My only complaint is the seats are small foldable chairs and connected to each other so you can't move them at all and you can be touching elbows or bottoms depending on the size of people

Buying the tickets was a breeze over the phone and we picked up the tickets at will call the night of the show with no issues. Parking was a breeze, there's plenty of space in the lot. Even after heavy snow storm the day before, it was clear. The theatre and playhouse was decorated beautifully for Christmas, trees all around and lit garland, it was magical. There were 2 bars, but had really long lines if you didn't get there quickly enough. They had specialty drinks, non alcoholic options, coffee and cocoa, and some sweet treats. I had to get a coffee at intermission and it was only $2, a great deal! They had Mrs Cratchit's coffee which was coffee + Bailey's, which would've been fun too. The play was wonderful! I even teared up at the end when Scrooge became a nice person. All the actors were incredible, and the children were so precious, they all worked hard to put on a good performance. The theatre itself had comfy seats, a decent amount of leg room, and felt roomy even though it's a small venue (500ish people). On the way out, we all got to take home a special Christmas bread from Rotella's, I can't wait to dig into it!

We came recently to experience Omaha Symphony + guest conductor Christopher Allen + guest violinist Francisco Fullana play Johann Strauss II, Montgomery, and Stravinsky's Firebird. There was an "after party" where we were able to stay to listen to Christopher Allen on the piano and Fullana on the violin play a few pieces. I'm glad we stayed to experience it! There's a large area on the second floor where tables and chairs are set up for conversations and presentations. The check in and security was smooth and simple, they have metal detectors which I appreciate for safety. We had lots of help from the patrons to help us find our seats. My husband surprised me with 2nd row seats for the show, it was amazing being that close to the performance! The drinks were just okay. I wanted a coffee at intermission and when I asked what coffee they serve, she said "decaf," which is as a little annoying. I want to stay awake which is the purpose of coffee, and I still don't know if it's a good coffee or simple Folgers. We opted to share a glass of Chardonnay, served in a plastic cup with a lid. It felt like I was a toddler sipping from the cup, so I probably wouldn't get a drink to have during a presentation again.

There are lots of little touches here and there that are very unique and a nod to the past. Depending upon your event, there are a couple of areas to choose from, and the outdoor space is simply beautiful. What made this review a 3 instead of a 5 is two things: 1) Parking. It's on-street and not plentiful near the venue. When I attended, I did a terrible thing (because I got so frustrated with driving around the blocks for parking); I parked on the sidewalk. Not the best choice, I admit. Now I know to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of any event there. 2) The chairs. HORRIBLE. I attended a theatrical production as part of the Great Plains Theatre Conference. Including announcements, the production lasted 90 minutes--90 excruciating minutes. To make sure it wasn't just my reaction, I looked around. What I discovered was an audience of so many people moving, bending, adjusting, and re-adjusting in their seats. It's as if the owners of 40th Street said, "What are the cheapest, most uncomfortable chairs on the planet? Yep! Let's buy those!!" If you attend an event here in which you will be sitting for longer than 20 minutes, bring a seat cushion with you. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll note that I'm unforgiving when it comes to uncomfortable seating. This venue had the worst by far. The owners should eat their own dog food and sit in those chairs for at least half an hour just to experience what their guests are experiencing. That said, if you're looking for a place to hold an event--and you want something out of the ordinary and memorable--I recommend 40th Street Theatre. If you're a business and want a get away event where your employees can have some nosh and network, I think it's great for that. Standing, chatting, mixing, mingling--40th Street Theatre hits a home run for that.

We also thought the theatre itself was really neat. It definitely has an Old World look to it. A few things that I think could be improved on is informing the audience of where the bathrooms are located prior to the show. I found a bathroom by following someone else downstairs to the basement. Luckily that is where they were headed, as I had no idea. Lastly, although the theater is beautiful, the armrests need refurbishment. My seat's armrests (as well as the rest of my party's seats) had several nailheads sticking up, so that your sweater or other delicate fabric would get snagged repeatedly. Other than these small issues, we enjoyed our time together as a family.

I fully intend to go to more ballets and upcoming events here, as I had a great experience, as did my family. The ticket prices are less than expected for a ballet, and when seated on the floor you can see the stage very clearly. The second time I went we were on the balcony, albeit near the back, and I much prefer being seated on the floor. The theatre itself is beautiful; the architecture and inner design is gorgeous to look at, take pictures in, and marvel at before the show as well as during intermission. The bathrooms are accessible and there are drinks and small refreshments available. It isn't a huge selection so don't come on an empty stomach, but they are nice to nibble on throughout the show. I have not had the best experience with the mixed drinks, and they tend to be overly strong, which is not my preference whatsoever. It can be overwhelming and my last drink I could not finish and ended up tossing. Overall, I would highly recommend supporting our local arts and taking an outing to go see a ballet here. It is such a fun girly activity, and can be done decently affordable. Take the opportunity to get dressed up, take pics before the ballet, and enjoy a great show here!
