I had a week to find care for my father, which the other companies I interviewed either needed minimum 2 weeks notice or we just didn't jive. But with ascent home care, they were ready, willing and accommodating! The process with my dad was overwhelming and on his discharge date I couldn't be there. Ascent took the reigns and kept me updated with everything from the time they arrived at rehab to when they were on their way to my dads to when they arrived home. Hey made the process easy. Everything started off fairly well. A nurse(?) from Lifecare came to our house and showed us how to…read moreadminister IV antibiotics (3 times/day). Then for the next 5 weeks a different nurse came out first twice a week and then once a week to change the dressing and just check up on things. All went well until the course of antibiotics was finished. The nurse was supposed to come and remove the PICC line on Wednesday (February 22nd). First there was a miscommunication between Lifecare and the doctor. The doctor's office claimed Lifecare was supposed to contact them to get the order to remove the PICC line; Lifecare claimed that the doctor was supposed to contact them. In whatever case, the doctor's office contacted Lifecare on Wednesday afternoon to authorize the removal of the PICC line. But now, Lifecare is unable to find a nurse to remove the PICC line and they have stopped communicating with me at all. I have no idea if or when I can get the PICC line removed and in the meantime I am breaking out from the tape keeping the PICC line in place.

After my dad's stay in the hospital I was at a lose of how to provide the best options for my parents. The hospital gave me a list (too many on that list) and I called and emailed too many companies. What a education! I narrowed down my list to three, in my researching I learned a lot of companies don't hire their own staff, there is not training and there is no state oversight. Once I learned this I choose 3 and met with each company, interviewed caregivers and we made our decision. They have been in business for over 25 years, they are licensed with the State and we have a nurse supervisor to count on if and when we need additional help or support. We chose LifeStyle Options because, they were professional on the phone, they sent out a nurse to assess my father, (free of charge) and developed a plan that both my parents could agree to. That isn't always easy. We have had care for over 3 months now and Dad and Mom are both happy, Dad is recovering nicely and it takes the anxiety off my parents and family to know that someone is showing up each day to assist my parents. It has been a very good experience and I would recommend LifeStyle Options, Inc. to anyone who is seeking help and companionship for their family, themselves or friends. I called this group because they are affiliated with Journey Care and Journey Care was wonderful in how they cared for my mother as she transitioned. Everyone to include the people that answered the phones the nurses and the social worker. I didnt expect to be treated so abruptly by a woman named Cheryl. I told her the reason for my call that I was looking for food preparation and she said is that all? That took me back because every other place I called immediately began to tell me about what they offered. She told me to call Meals on Wheels. She then blurted out 4 hour minimum. Geez we never even had a discussion about anything. She then told me that she had no teams in his area. Before I hung up I wanted her to know how unpleasant she was. I wanted her to know just how opposite she was in comparison to the Journey Care employees. Customer care is very important no matter what company you work for but people are not calling caregiver services for their sick and elderly family members for a joyous reason.
