The care givers provided excellent care as my father went through the end of his life. The care givers worked with hospice and carefully followed the health plan including becoming nurse delegated. 7 sisters provided care givers who met my specifications, including only have people who followed COVID 19 protocols. When my father was asleep, the care givers often cleaned. They let me know when we needed supplies. But what really impressed me was the level of personal care they gave. They took care of his personal hygiene. They talked with him and many developed a connection that helped when my father became disoriented. What you want as someone responsible for a loved one are people you can trust that allow you to continue to take care of your business and what you need to do to take care of your loved one. 7 Sisters made that happen for me.

This was the second time I had stayed here and would recommend Shucksan in a heartbeat to someone needing a care facility.

I thought the 1st place my dad was at last year (in Anacortes) wasn't that good, but at least they seemed to care for my dad....Shuksan couldn't have given a rats ass about him or anything else. For example: until my dad was given the all clear to walk, he wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom without assistance. The 2nd weekend I visited, he couldn't get anyone to help out. It took them 5 hours to come around to help him to the bathroom, and by then he had sh*t himself. Then it took another 3 hours to clean it up and while cleaning him up they ridiculed him. This man ran industries and was a world expert in fisheries. I found the CNA's in the common room watching tv and playing cards. I ripped them a new one....and it did no good. Another visit, I walked by a room with its blinds open. The patient was naked with no sheets covering her, falling off the bed (looked like she was hardly hanging on and screaming in pain. My friend who was with me tried to get the nurses to help, but they were more interested in playing with the cat. My friend eventually helped the patient back into the bed (and was then threatened with expulsion and arrest). Finally, at the end of dad's stay, we had a meeting with dad and I, the head staff of each department and a coordinator. I was told (I still had the medical POA) in the meeting that they were releasing him because his insurance had run out and that he could do everything well enough to live on his own. That was a load of bs, he still struggled to walk and do basic tasks....and the coordinator didn't pay any attention to the concerns I had. To top it all off, when I asked for a copy of her notes, she told me I wasn't allowed to see them. That turned into a big fight.... My dad didn't want me to write a review of Shuksan, but now that he passed away, I will do my duty to ensure that this place dies a miserable death and its staff gets their licenses revoked.

After many messages and unanswered phone calls for a couple months the damage was done! APS got involved and 2 years later we are still in lawsuits over one caregiver that worked for RAH! This should have been a totally different experience for our loved one. Unless you can be there everyday monitoring the interaction with staff, I would not recommend this company! The contact we had as a family did have a medical condition but still she wasn't the only that worked there. This all could have been avoided if someone would have just called me back when I started having concerns.

My father suddenly needed full-time care after years of living with ALS. I contacted Right at Home…read moreand spoke with Terri, asking her a few key questions that were essential in the care my father needed, which included asking if range of motion arm exercises is something employees could do, which she affirmatively said they could. I was assured they had trained staff and that they could easily accommodate the time frame needed. After the first weekend, employees told my father that they could not do arm stretches with him. I reached out to Terri several times, but she never responded regarding the exercises. The arm exercises were a critical part of why we decided to have care with Right at Home because these exercises were needed daily for the improvement of my father's quality of life. Unfortunately, this was not the most concerning incident that occurred during my experience with Right at Home. Some stressful experiences my father had endured under Right at Home were: Employees falling asleep on night shifts and him having to call out multiple times to wake them up for assistance; employees showing up late to shifts; inconsistency and lack of clarity with employee expectations and policies; employees asking my father to provide them with food and coffee; employees leaving in the middle of shifts; employees not showing up at all to shifts; employees not cleaning up after themselves while using my father's kitchen and restroom; an employee leaving their cigarette butts in a can on his porch; employees putting my father in uncomfortable and ultimately dangerous situations. One of the most uncomfortable situations my father was put in was an employee that repeatedly asked if she could go on smoke breaks. My father could tell the employee was on edge because she hadn't had a smoke break, so he allowed her to go multiple times throughout her shift. The employee also let my father know that most of her clients have dementia so she isn't used to interacting or having to ask to go on these smoke breaks. When I called to request my father not have this employee again, Terri's response was, "A lot of the older caregivers smoke." Well sure enough, the following week a scheduled employee did not show up and my father received the employee that smokes again. This visit was the most horrifying. My father needed to use the restroom and he fell when she took him. The employee panicked and my father had to cry out to ask her to help move his legs because they were pinned underneath him. He was bleeding and had serious bruising on his legs after the fall. The employee, stressed about my father's fall, went outside to smoke multiple times, and while she was in the house stayed in the other room not even checking on my father. While in the other room, my father could hear her speaking with someone at Right at Home, saying, "Well, the family will probably fire us now." I wrote an email to Sharon, the owner, documenting what my father experienced and requested that my father not pay for the lack of care her employee provided that day. I also raised a previous issue about an employee leaving mid-shift with little notice, and the on-call employee never showing up to cover for her. We hired Right at Home to provide 24-care for my father during the scheduled days, not just when it was convenient for them. When I called and finally spoke with Sharon, she seemed to have no concern at all about any of the issues I had brought to her attention. I asked her about the policy that wasn't followed with the on-call employee not showing up. She didn't give me any answer as to why policy was not followed and if any repercussions were administered. When I brought up my father's fall, Sharon told me that this was her best employee and that she has been with her for years. She never inquired about his condition. She even stated that because my father had built a rapport with the employee that it was fine she let him fall. She then, in a snarky tone, asked me, "Does your father have dementia or something?" To which, I responded, "No" but before I could say more, she cut me off and said, "Well then he can speak up for himself." I was in shock at the lack of concern. My father suffered a major injury at the hand of one of her employees and she couldn't be bothered to look in his file and see why we reached out for assistance and hired her company in the first place. There was no follow-up, call, or apology to my father after the horrific incident. Defeated, appalled, and exhausted from the disrespect, lack of integrity, and failure of transparency from Sharon, we finished our phone conversation by terminating care that following weekend. Only in the care of Right at Home did my father suffer a fall. No other person allowed this to happen from the time he was diagnosed with ALS until he passed away.

I found RIH online after having been less than satisified with other companies we tried previously. 100% recommend Right at Home. With RIH I have been so impressed over the entire duration! From the initial consultation to the final day. Owner Bobbie was available to us at all times, which I found very comforting. Veronica in the office was super helpful and patient with our high maintenance scheduling (we had very tricky scheduling and last minute changes). She also came out to train in person if we had a new person coming in. We often had Crystal with our Mum, she was AMAZING with her. She not only helped my Mum with showering etc, but with EVERYTHING from changing linens, light housekeeping, cooking healthy meals, companionship and the list goes on. We also really like Mona - the office was great for trying to keep only 1 or 2 workers on the schedule with my Mum because of her dementia. Everyone has been Covid safe, wearing masks, washing hands, sanitizing. My Mum's condition has deteriorated quickly so we are now moving her into a long term care home. We will miss everyone and want to thank them all for being so special, it's really helped make our transition easier. Thank you Right at Home crew xo
