We have had great experiences here with both children, starting from age 1 to age 5. The hygienists and dentists are amazing with children, give great information and make everyone feel comfortable. I gave this place a high rating a few years ago, but at this time, Greed and selfishness is all this business seems to be about now. Allow me to elaborate: We have Cigna PPO dental and it's a pretty decent plan that allows us to visit any location even if they are out of network. So this place used to be in network with Cigna PPO which was great but then decided they were no longer to be in network with them, which is fine! I don't have a problem with that at all. The issue I do have is my Cigna PPO still allows me to visit this location and will pay sometimes 100% sometimes 80% or whatever, depending on the procedure. But Bright Smiles told me I have to pay EVERYTHING up front even though it may be covered by insurance and then I would be reimbursed after they determine what was and wasn't covered. I've never met any doctor or dentist who wouldn't just submit everything to insurance first and then send me a bill for the remainder after everything was processed. It's pure Greed. I'm very dissatisfied they went this route, I've had all my bills in the past with them always paid but now they won't provide any service unless I pay whatever they are asking and then after everything is cleared with insurance I must wait for reimbursement. I just think if you have PPO dental insurance bright smiles should submit everything to the insurance first and then after everything is settled then they should send you the remaining bill, if there even is one. Maybe I was told misinformation at which point please tell me and I will continue to bring my children here and change my review but so far I've spoken to 2 different people at the office and that's what I was told. The office is nice and the providers were gentle and personable at the first cleaning appointment. However, my daughter had a lot of cavities and they gave her so many silver teeth, more than had been discussed and more than second opinions suggested she needed. I also found the paperwork confusing and ended up paying so much more than I expected. I don't know that I would have had a better experience somewhere else or if it was just going to be traumatic no matter what, but it wasn't a good experience. read more

So, I was a big fan of this dentist office especially with Dr Johnny, he was great! However, this visit with the new change have pushed me away from visiting again. My daughter received crowns with Dr Johnny and never complained/had a problem and does everything the same dental care wise. She recently received crowns and start to complain about pain so we visited for a checkup (never went back before). I was told she has a small cut on her gums possibly from food being stuck there!??? How??? Within 3 days of getting the crown placed, "food" has CUT her gums!???? I'm not a dentist or dental assistant but I know that just don't sound logical. Either way, the passive nonchalant attention towards the issue has turned me away. read more

My children have been going to this dentist for years and now that they moved their office from Sheridan to Addison "they no longer except their insurance" typical. Very disappointed in them and that's a total shame to turn all your previous patients away. read more

We love Bright Smiles! I took my two daughters to see Dr. Menka and had the most wonderful experience. The location is very convenient and there is a big parking lot right outside. We were greeted so warmly when we walked in and my daughters went straight to the giant Lite Brite in the lobby. Their check-ups couldn't have gone better! Everyone was so friendly, patient and thorough. They understood that my younger daughter was a little nervous as it was her first time at the dentist so they went out of their way to put her at ease and make her smile. Dr. Menka clearly loves her job and loves kids. She is very knowledgeable and makes sure that parents and kids are comfortable and happy. The new office on Addison is fantastic! I am so glad that I was recommended to this location and encourage you to bring your child here too! The facility is brand new, clean, state of the art and extremely kid friendly. The staff is so warm and welcoming. Everyone that we encountered during our visit there today was awesome. From the receptionist, to dental assistant Diana and last but not least Dr. Patel were all so great with my little ones. My two toddlers were given small goodie bags with tooth brushes, tooth paste, a timer and kid friendly floss. They even got a little prize after the visit. We had a wonderful experience at the dentist today and look forward to coming back again for 6 month check up. So far so good! This was our first visit to BrightSmiles for my 2yr old and is was really nice. I chose this office based off a yelp review who had a similar case to what we have. I'm glad I made the decision to switch because Dr. Patel was amazing! Very patient and gentle with my toddler. And I really appreciated the treatment options and her opinion to what she though was best for his age. Looks like we'll be patients until he ages put. Ok, read their response. Have you ever given a less than glowing review? Many times you will get a very aggressive response from the business. This practice, though, acknowledged ALL of my concerns, even ones they don't have much control over (eg kids at the YMCA after school). That deserves a plus one star, I think. A friend of mine asked why I bothered taking my kid to a pediatric dentist (that is not in our network) when we could have gone to the regular dentist for free. This is why: my kid walked in crying and terrified but then calmed down and let two people examine her and scrape gunk off her teeth -- all because these guys are pros with kids. If I did not emphasize that enough before, let me do it now: they are really good with little kids. read more

Doctor John Kuttab (teaching dentist/doctor at Children's Memorial Hospital) and the staff were AMAZING. We had just gone to a different pediatric dentist a few days before where my 3 year old daughter had a horrible and traumatizing experience. I couldn't believe how much the staff put my daughter completely at ease, watching any nerves she might have had, become completely non-existent. Everyone in the office took their time with us as if my daughter was the only patient they had all day. I would recommend BrightSmiles Pediatric Dentistry to anyone and everyone I know. My daughter was chatting away and laughing and I couldn't get over how happy she was during the entire visit. Compared to just a few days before at the other dentist, she was extremely cooperative and enjoying herself...I don't think she wanted to leave. And I'm positive that in 6 months when it's time for her checkup, she'll be ready and willing and dare i say it - excited to go. Our five-year-old son has been seeing Dr. Johnny for two years for his cleanings, and he just had a cavity filled. Every experience we've had at BrightSmiles has been professional, friendly, and non-rushed, and we're always impressed with the level of care and the time Dr. Johnny takes to talk with us about our son's dental health. He's extremely knowledgeable and compassionate, and I can't stress this enough--he and his staff are absolute pros with kids. Even after the cavity, my son has no fear at all of going to the dentist. We have much respect for what Dr. Johnny is doing in this practice--seeing private patients along with the community's underserved kids--and know that our son's teeth are the best of hands. We see Dr. Kuttab in the Children's memorial location on Clark st. Oh my, my kids love so needless to say, I love him too. He is super kind, takes the time to listen to the patients, explains everything clearly, and looks out for the patient's best interest. My kiddos needed braces so he searched for a board certified orthodontist with good reviews that was close to home. The office staff is pleasant, the dental hygienists are very good to the kids as well. Super happy with our Dentist. read more

Pros: Best pediatric dentists and hygienists, hands down. They are AMAZING dealing with fearful, young kids, even when extensive work is needed. They have advanced equipment and options tailored to individual needs, and will work patiently over several visits if needed - just the best in terms of emotional support plus technique/expertise. They have always allowed me in with my children and if you can be there calmly without interfering, they support a parent or caregiver being present. Their ability to accurately assess kids' emotions and respond accordingly - a little push, offering rewards, distraction, or actually backing off or stopping if needed - is very tuned in and remarkably individualized. Although a challenging space, the office is extremely clean and well maintained, with up to the minute technology and equipment, and all staff use it expertly and quickly. Cons: The inner facility is tiny and the overall environment is a little chaotic, being in the Boys and Girls Club. They accept a medical card plus offer sliding scale and do a lot of good in the community, so you have to trade the wonderful work they do for the fact that you aren't in a boutique upscale salon setting, which to me is the right set of priorities. They make the best of a very challenging space and patients do have privacy, though. The practice is VERY conventional and somewhat old school, from paperwork/office stuff to dental practices and attitudes. If you're the slightest bit holistic or like to take a team approach, this isn't a perfect fit. It's a "dentist knows best" environment for sure, so either go with their program, or find a more flexible, holistic dentistry practice. DO NOT refuse the fluoride treatment, or suggest in any way that you have concerns, if you want a comfortable experience. (No need to reply about the ADA, research, etc....duly noted!) If you are on a budget, don't have insurance, have a fearful child, don't mind an office that is part of the Uptown community, and either are conventional yourself or can pretend to be if your child needs quality, compassionate care, it's a wonderful place. read more

Dr. Johnny is fantastic. I wish I had a dentist like him as a child, then maybe I wouldnt havr the crippling fear of dentists that I have today. My 4 year old had to have a tooth removed today, and did not shed a single tear. She spent most of the visit laughing and smiking, and cant wait for her next visit. Top notch. Wont go anywhere else (we drive all the way from the south side to go here). Only bad thing I can say is that parking is always a challenge, but its totally worth dealing with for the level of service! read more

My pediatrician told me it was time to start taking my son to the dentist, but he was terrified to go. I was a little nervous (ok, very nervous) about how our first appointment was going to go, but everyone at BrightSmiles was fantastic: The staff was really friendly and immediately put my son at ease. I took my 2 year old son there today. We was referred to this clinic from other dentist, who could not do anything for my son. First, it was a little hard to find them , the office located in "boys and girls club". The entrance is not on Sheridan ave, it is on the side street, on Gunnison st. Also they don't have parking lot, but there were plenty of pay parking on Sheridan ave. As we got in very friendly receptionist lady greeted us and asked me to fill some paperwork. Then without wait we were sent to our seat in the office where we met dentist assistant ( Jeanette i think was her name). She was very friendly and professional. She made my son feel so relaxed and calm. She explained what doctor going to do and played with my boy until doctor came. Our doctor was Johnny K. When I saw him I was surprised. He was younger than I expected. He was very pleasant. He introduced himself and asked me few questions about my son's health and allergies. He explained what he going to do and ask me to help him to minimize stress for my little son. He checked him very thorough but very gentle. I was very pleased . My son has little caries on front teeth. He gave us options and explained each of them. Most important, he did not pressure me to do any fixing if I don't want, unlike other dentist I went before. He did not try to get work (money) without care about my sons feelings. I extremely appreciate it!!! Over all, everybody in this office were awesome!!! Great job!!! I first brought my child here when it was the Crest Smile Shoppe. At the time they weren't very good with helping the younger children feel comfortable. So, it was a very welcomed change when Dr. Johnny Kutab took over the practice. Recently, however, the receptionists/billing staff have made it very difficult to continue bringing my business here. The first issue I recall is being told that they didn't accept my credit card only for it to be accepted over the phone. Instead of being offered an apology for not being told they have two separate appointment systems and consequently missing an appointment, I was rudely told I had to specify which type of appointment I was checking on. I encountered road block after road block with their bill payment policy changes. They forced automatic payments or full payment balance without receiving an advance notice and without willing to allow those who had been making on time (in my case early) in person payments. Honestly, this is the treatment I would expect from a major corporation and not a small business. A business which, I had gladly supported since it's inception in 2010. Having witnessed one other client having a dispute at this office within the past 6 months the search for a dentist much closer to home has begun. read more

Spectacular staff made the dental visit a joy for our four and two year olds. Dr. Johnny is absolutely wonderful. He was trained at one of the top dental schools but is extremely down to earth. The office does not have all the "fluff" of many other pediatric dental clinics and does not need it. Wow! We've been taking our daughter to Brightsmiles from the beginning - at their old location. When they moved west I didn't like the idea of a longer drive, but it's not bad. And beyond worth it! The new location is state of the art and awesome!! Giant light peg board, beautiful waiting area and treatment facilities. Dr. Mena Malhotra is fabulous! I wouldn't consider taking my daughter anywhere else. She loves going to the dentist (and she doesn't always get good news). she has had a couple of procedures that i would have thought would have really scared her but there is so much trust that i think she just knew she was in good hands and it would be okay. Dr. Sal did an amazing job actually working on my daughters teeth! However I have issues with the office there. I call with issues I have and to make it better all they had to do was accept their mistake and apologize to move on instead they sweep it under the rug like its NO big deal. Very passive attitude like its not their problem. Because Dr. Sal was so amazing with my daughter I drove over the hour it takes to get there from my home for my daughters teeth because (6yr olds are afraid of the dentist) and she enjoyed this one. My daughter has an appointment on Oct 9th they stopped taking her insurance as of August 1st I have yet to be notified that they do not take her insurance. According to the office manager there notices that they No Longer take my insurance would go out on October 1st. This is completely unacceptable in my eyes that I would have gotten a letter until approx. 2 or 3 days in advance of her appointment. The only reason I found this out was because my daughter started having issues with new teeth growing in so I called to ask a few questions, where I was not allowed to speak to a dentist and the office manager proceeded to give me advice and told me that it doesn't sound important. (says the one with NO dentistry degree). Very Unprofessional Office And I advise anyone to do some research before going here. read more

We had our first visit to Bright Smiles today, and my son really enjoyed it! I have an energetic, extremely stubborn two year old, and if he doesn't want to do something, it is a real challenge to get him to cooperate. His favorite phrase today is, "No way!" and I expected that his first visit to the dentist might not go smoothly because of it. I was wrong! Everyone in the office was so kind, from the receptionist who first greeted us to Jackie, our dental hygienist, and Dr. Johnny. Jackie was so patient in getting my son to sit for X-rays, distracting him with stickers, pressing buttons, looking at the camera, all of it. You could tell that she had lots of experience working with children, and I was impressed that she was able to get X-rays without forcing him. She watched him brush his teeth, praised him, let him pick stickers, and she showed him the mirror that Dr. Johnny would use to count his teeth. Dr. Johnny came over to see my son then, and he talked to me about good dental habits while counting my son's teeth and telling him he did a good job. We left the office happy, and we talked about how it was fun to visit the dentist. I wasn't really sure which pediatric dentist to choose, but this was the right choice for us. My son had a great first visit to the dentist (hopefully with many more in the future!) because of the team's demeanor with kids. And I love that the office provides services to refugees--you can feel good supporting a business that takes care of our community. Highly recommend! read more

I highly recommend Bright Smiles. I had taken my kids to a couple of other pediatric dentists before finding Bright Smiles and Dr. Kuttab is by far the best. My four-year-old needed to have a tooth extracted and I thought it would be very difficult (for both of us), but Dr. Kuttab's skills in putting my son at ease and getting him though it were amazing. He was also more than willing to talk to me at length before the procedure and answer all of my questions. His staff is also very courteous and professional. It is not the fanciest office, but you will have no problem overlooking that due to the high quality of care and service provided to you and your child. read more

Came here for my almost 3 year old to have his first dental appointment. The office is located in a Boys & Girls club. You are unable to wait in the reception area, there is a long bench you can sit on in the Boys & Girls club until your name is called. There were kids that were screaming. The desk at the Boys & Girls club was having a personal conversation that everyone in the building could hear, not suitable for children to hear. We were not called back until 35 minutes after our appointment time. When we were called back, you are escorted into a long room with 4 stations. There is not much room to be with your child and you can hear all of the other children and machines. It was very chaotic. I will say that the dental hygienist was amazing. It was hard to hear what she and the dentist were saying because there is no privacy. I am 8 months visibly pregnant. They took xrays on the child in the next booth with me nearby. Very unsafe accommodations for a pregnant woman. I was unable to say anything before the X-ray was taken. There were xrays taken on the other side and the hygienist then asked if I wanted to cover up or step out. My child did not take to the Dentist like he did the hygienist. He was cold and you couldn't hear what he was saying due to the noise in the office. I see that they are moving soon. Hopefully their new setup will take care of some of these issues. read more

My son use to hate going to the dentist, but with Dr. Johnny he is cooperative and best of all he doesn't scream or try to run away. We have tried many different dentists and had a horrible experience, but now we are willing to travel the 35 miles to get here, even if it takes close to 2 hours sometimes. My 3 year old actually sits and listens and interacts with the dentists instead of screaming and trying to run away. Today when they were working on his teeth I felt like I was in a spa, it was quiet and peaceful unlike any other experience I ever had with my son. He truly enjoys Dr Johnny and I don't think I have ever met a dentist or staff that cared more about the kids than they do. Truly amazing. Thank you so much for everything read more

I am giving them a one not because they weren't great doctors or had a great staff but because now that they have a brand new office poor people are no longer welcomed. When they were at the boys and girls club it was a shared waiting room well a long uncomfortable bench where at times it was packed with kids for the club and they didn't have there own bathrooms but it was worth the chaos. I tried to schedule a few months back in their new office and the girl goes they won't take Medicaid anymore. I'm like are you serious? Because I am poor they won't see my kids anymore because they are getting a brand new office? It took me so many doctors, gas, time, tears to find this kind of office because my daughter suffers from extreme anxiety. We would drive 2-3 hours there and than another 2-3 hours back because they made her feel so comfortable, they made me feel at ease. Now I can't find a pediatric dentist who takes our insurance and it's just not right. I can't help I can't afford better insurance. I am not the only parent blind sided by their decision. We stood by your office when you were small and chaotic and now you dumped us because we can't pay out of pocket. Shame on you. So much for doing what you love. Good doctors always turn greedy it's always about money. read more
