Our daughters letter to that school
Hi Ms. Angie,
I was so happy to come to Brighton Hall, and I'm beyond disappointed by the letter received that I am not accommodated for the 2022-2023 school year? I find that very strange that an adult's actions are held against me when I did nothing wrong. I loved every student and faculty at Brighton Hall and treated everyone with respect, and I find it very odd that the letter sent was out of retaliation of us requesting recommendation letters and other emails and/or messages being used against me being welcomed back. Nowhere in the handbook does it state that you cannot be welcomed back because of what a parent has said or done, and have it held against that students' right to return to the school.
About community service hours, I was told by Ms. Melonie in the beginning, before I committed to dedicating my time anywhere, that I would receive community service hours that would go on my file for reference.
For my community service hours at Brighton Hall alone, I completed 284 hours of service in total. I was told in the beginning that becoming a T.A. (Teacher's Assistant) and tutoring Elise were apart of my completion in community service, I hope I wasn't deceived because I sacrificed my personal hours when I could be home finishing my own homework and assignments that were due for my classes, as well as my out of school activities that I had to sacrifice to stay later at school for.
Complete Breakdown of my Community Service:
2 hours 3 times a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday (The last period of the day):
- 120 hours in total with Ms. B (1st - 2nd grade)
- 96 hours in total with Mr. B (7th Grade Pre-Algebra TA)
- 4 hours at the food pantry (student council hours)
- Tutoring Elise (7th grade student) twice a week, (from November - June) 2 hours a week
in total 64 hours tutoring Elise
120 + 96 + 4 + 64 = 284 hours in total
I am very heartbroken by the letter, after everything I've done to try and better my community at Brighton Hall, supporting my classmates unconditionally, and being a study orientated student that would do anything to help their peers. To be told I was not to participate in hosting with my peers as the president for the students, is very hurtful, because if they can vote for me to be their president and I haven't been here for as long as the other students, how is it possible that I could host with the same peers for the Spring Benefit Concert, but not for graduation because I was not at the school long enough? It hurts me and I don't understand how this is possible to treat a student this way.
